Hello, all you happy tax-payers. [Old 'Droopy Dog' cartoon reference.] FF365 gave us some nice aesthetic moments today. Robo-Cam's acquisition and tracking of the rare (for LHR) Cathay Pacific Cargo 747 from way, way out was superb, especially as the ultra-long zoom gave a clear view of the planes ahead and behind it in the stack. [Starts at around 7:06:00, ends at 7:14:00.] Following it all the way down to taxiing off the runway was very satisfying and will have made a lot of viewers happy. (Honest disclosure: If we're talking aesthetics, I don't find Boeing's 747s ['First Lady of the Skies'] especially pleasing to look at. They're magnificent flying machines, no question of that, but to my mind their 'water on the brain' fuselage bulges look like a disturbing medical deformity. Your opinion may differ, but that's only because it's wrong...😁) Later on, despite having to stare straight into the setting sun, Robo managed to catch some gorgeous departures as the planes climbed out and banked, the golden sunlight shining off them. Mmmmm, nice. Yes, I know that looking at things because they're visually satisfying goes against the dictates of some serious aviation fans [should they be called 'turbofans'?🤔], but there's more to life than data. Turbofans deal in registrations, engine types, serial numbers, logistics and schedules. But if being a spotter means never being allowed to relax and just enjoy the view, I'd rather be doing something else. Um... Another thought. I have a suggestion for the FF365 team, but can't contact them on Instagram because I don't want to register my details on the site. (I'm too grumpy for social media.) Although the new Chat Rules in the video Descriptions are a sound idea, I think that it might be worth changing the wording of the line regarding landings. Why so? Well, at the moment it says 'Do not score landings'. There's a loophole. Argumentative Chatters will assert that saying, "Oof! Hard landing! That was ROUGH! That pilot needs retraining! She's rubbish!" is not 'scoring' anything because no numbers are mentioned. Weasel words... Better, I think, to change 'score' to 'criticise or rate'. 'DON'T CRITICISE OR RATE LANDINGS' is unambiguous and troll-proof, but leaves room for simple praise: "Wow! That was smoooooth, considering the shed-effect turbulence." Armchair experts are thus prevented from making any qualitative or comparative landing references, which should help the Moderators when things turn toxic. Finally, my Extreme Lurking policy - i.e. blocking EVERY account in the Chat apart from known call-out volunteers and perhaps 7 Mods and trusted contributors - is working reasonably well, but I still get the occasional new account spoiling the mood before I can block it. Perhaps I should just abandon the Chat entirely and enjoy Robo-Cam's company uninterrupted. But I do like the call-outs...
