Heathrow Express, England’s most expensive train journey!

Well done youngen excellent trip report. I had no choice but to use it years ago. My flight was delayed and I needed to be in the Westminster area of London but didn't want to spend taxi money getting there. I was in shock at the price. I remember the guard saying it's cheaper if you book in advance which wouldn't have worked for me. I took a train ride in Thailand.... standard class for the 2:20 round trip...worked out 13 pence.

I think at this point the HX target market is wealthy or late and rushing travalers. That Thailand train cost is insane!

So worth every pound. To get from/to Heathrow/Paddington in 15 minutes... Yes please.

In my opinon (as a faily experianced train enthusiast) it is nothing short of a rip-off. The Liz line takes abt 2x as long for abt half the price which is quite appealing for me. But I'm not here to start a pointless argument, for some people HX can be value for money.

@@GlobeSync1 For me I was able to get it for cheaper then the Liz line due to having a rail card and booking far in advance

@@GlobeSync1 The Elizabeth Line is not that slow, it takes 23 or 27 minutes and sometimes beats the Heathrow Express.

@@TimothyEBaldwin It acually depends on the Terminal, 2 and 3 are around 25 minutes and 4 and 5 are about 30. It can only beat HX if there are delays on the line.

I caught this once from Heathrow to Paddington, really expensive and, in my opinion, misnamed...express it wasn't..kept stopping at regular intervals.!

Heathrow Express could of had the Class 379 Electrostars instead of the Class 387.
