could you do a crested gecko setup video because I am still not quite sure how to set up my tank
@ryanpollard80177 жыл бұрын
It's real simple bro. If it's below mid 70s in your house get a small bulb. UVB does t matter but may as well get it. Substrate can be paper towel, coco husk anything like that. Fake plants and foliage is key. Also paper towel brown things idk what they're called or hollow pieces of cork. A water dish at the bottom and a magnetic or suction cup water dish/food dish bowl on side near perch. And use Pangea or any gecko mix and crickets once in a while

Great advice as always. I've had success with a very low wattage heat mat stuck on the outside of the tank, near the top where the gecks like to hang out. It's put the temp up a few degrees, helping to maintain humidity and keep them warm :)

Night-time temperatures in New Caledonia dip down to 16c in winters. My understanding is the temperature change during a 24-hour period is relatively important for crested geckos. So if you do use a heat lamp it's probably best to only use it during the day during your winters, to get into the low 20's. Average winter nightly lows are about 17c in Noumea, and average summer highs are about 29c. So you can probably expect temperatures to swing a bit outside of those bounds.

honestly you dont even need a thermostat. a 10$ dimmer switch for lamps works just great. you'll need to fiddle around to find the right temp though and then just mark with a sharpie. as well you'll need a digital thermometer but that's also just 10$. sure beats paying 40-50$ for a thermostat and works just as well.

Having the exact opposite issue lol. My crested gecko's tank, which he's not in yet as its currently being rented out by one of my Dendrobates tinctorius 'Patricia', can get 90*F at the very top and high 70s low 80s at the bottom. I know for a fact its due to the plant bulbs but not sure what I can do. Thinking that replacing my bulbs with more expensive LEDs could reduce the heat but i've heard mixed reviews.
@cupcakesandchevron43958 жыл бұрын
xxohmycaptainxx I have some jungle dawn LED lights on my tank. They produce almost no heat. They are great for growing plants and light the tank up with a Beautiful natural light.
@AdahliaBiPunk8 жыл бұрын
^^Thanks for the input. I think I might switch over to them. I've just been skeptical about LEDs. I don't want them to end up not being bright enough or too bright. I have some VERY expensive plants in this enclosure, some cost over $50 each, so I've been scared to take the plunge into LEDs at the risk of killing my plants.

would you ever consider planting LIVE plants like grass in a leopard gecko tank? would I need to use UVB?
@leopardgeckotalk8 жыл бұрын
Brady Burghart yes, I am looking more at succulents as they're slow growing and rarely need watering, I'm not quite sure what grasses would be best and where to buy them. If you were going to do a full planted tank, something like a 'Jungle Dawn' light by Arcadia would work well, like what use with my cresties. But I'm hoping that if I use succulents they'll be able to deal with the uvb light I have.

Olive Shupe leos need heat for their bellies, its what helps them digest their food and eco earth is completely safe, though babies should be kept on paper towl or carpet, adults can pass eco earth easier than youngins. just watch the heat though, i had to switch to a 0-5 gallon heat pad because my 5-10 gallon was getting to 110 degrees F, as where the 0-5 only gets to 86 degrees F

So I just got that ceramic heat emitter, and a thermostat for it. It’s a small tank for a smaller crested gecko, so there is a section of some kind of plastic or thermoplastic over the top of her tank. I don’t have the dome sitting on the top, it’s hanging over it with a heat lamp rack, but that middle plastic section is a little deformed from the heat, but isn’t melted or anything. Is that normal? Should I be worried about that long term since it’s winter and there is a few more months till it gets warmer? I’d really appreciate your opinion

I have a question completely unrelated to this video, sorry 😅 but, I recently bought my first crested gecko and a bag of repashy, as well as a terrarium and all the necessary things for the terrarium. I purchased everything from a breeder who feeds his crested geckos dry repashy. I have heard a lot of people say that dry repashy when ingested can cause stomach impaction. However, he has fed his geckos dry repashy since he first started breeding and his geckos are perfectly fine and healthy. I'd really love to hear your take on this?

For a leopard gecko: the tank should be at least 20 gallons. I'd get dry Eco earth or tile for them. Tile conducts heat well, is permanent, easy to clean, etc. Eco earth lets your gecko dig and lasts for six months at a time. Eco earth would probably be good for a crestie too. Hope I helped!
