Nice.. I never really tried to play this before until 5 mins ago. And it's pretty clear that OZZYs vocals never pushed Geezer to play a bass like this song is hammered down like a beast.... 🤘 Dio in SABBATH WAS BADASSED🤘

Dio is the best Black Sabbath vocalist imo.

I've just started Ozzy's biography and I didn't know that Geezer started out on guitar and switched to bass (and not because he was bad at guitar either)

I just recently found out he started as a decent guitar player (I was reading Ozzy Biography) and so it probably stems from just being a great player and learning to practice better than others

Great cover! A few things: 1) I love that guitar strap. 2) Why tune to Eb? I don't hear a low Eb in the entire tune. 3) Just realized how close this sounds to Holy Diver, another big Dio song. Very similar riff.
@SamboatMusicBassCovers3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! 1 - I have the strap linked in the description if you wanted to get yourself one! 2 - I have it in Eb because the song is Eb. I know Black Sabbath typically used E, and you don't go to the low Eb, however the 7th fret of the A in this tuning is Eb. Dio (who is the singer on this one, and not Ozzy) does his music in Eb. It just follows that the tuning is Eb with dio being the singer and the song being in Eb 3 - It sounds very similar! I heard this song and thought I heard Dio SInging, but it said black sabbath so I had to look it up and I was glad I did. Dio really likes that Gallop rhythm, and so do I :)

I never learned how to read music but I want to play this right. Those symbols/ notes that have a straight side and a curvy side with a dot at the tip, what does that mean? It’s almost like a wishbone if that helps. I’d appreciate it!
@SamboatMusicBassCovers5 жыл бұрын
So the notes that have a black cirlce (called a head) and a straight line is a quarter note. It usually means it is the beat. Every time you would tap your foot or bob your head is that. If the head is empty, then it is twice the beat, and you hold it for two beats (called a half note). Often times it’s the space inbetween each hit of the kick drum. If there is only one little “flag” or bar attached to a note with a black head, then it is an eighth note. You play two of those every beat. Think of almost any AC/DC bass line. If there is a dot by the head, then it makes it 1.5 times it’s normal length. A lot of jazz pieces use these. It makes something change “off the beat”. A curvy bar across notes generally means the two notes are connected together (so you only hit it once if it is the same note). If the notes are different, then you might be sliding from one to the other. If there is a 3 on top of the notes with the curve, that is called a triplet. A few Journey and The doors songs use it and it sticks 3 notes into a beat. I hope this is helpful :) if you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Sometimes I don’t get notifications if replied in the same thread, but hopefully I’ll see it. What time in the video do these things come up? I can better answer if I know what part you’re wondering about

So what's that 0th string for? Why do bass guitarist need 5 strings and never play them all.
@SamboatMusicBassCovers2 жыл бұрын
I’ll use it if it’s a song that uses that low B. I enjoy using it as a thumb rest, since it keeps my fingers closer to the strings. Also, if I start a song that’s in Eb or something , I have a chance to try to play it. I chose this bass for this song just because it’s my favorite bass

Ooh I've got a bit of a hot take here. Dio with Sabbath wasn't very good. This track is amazing, but everything else is kinda meh. Nothing really compares to the style Ozzy had set before with his more gruesome and gritty lyrics in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, Dio is easily one of the best singers of all time, and Rainbow is a great band as well, but he truly excelled when we was with his own band. Holy Diver, Last in Line, Lock up The Wolves are such good albums.

I honestly have only heard this album with dio singing for Black Sabbath and I really enjoyed it. Not many “single” type songs, but now I like that more than the singles
