*SPOILERS FOR IF YOU HAVE NOT FINISHED THE NOVEL!!! I highly recommend finishing the novel and supporting the author since it is now officially licensed in English! It will make you understand everything much better*

this really puts into perspective how fucking painful it must have been for hua cheng to watch xie lian die over and over in that shrine, unable to do anything but watch. how agonizing it must have been. it's genuinely painful to watch this animatic, but it's beautiful. you've earned my tears and a big thumbs up :')

Oh my goodness, this was incredible. There were so many scenes drawn (especially horrific ones) that I’ve never seen anyone animate or even do fan art of! This really encompasses a side of the book I think a lot of people don’t talk about as often and it really impacted me emotionally!!! The ending oh my god. Thank goodness you had the little chibi hualian together in the end or I may have slipped into depression LOL. My favourite part was hua cheng’s death, the music right when he grabbed the flower!!! and when he went crazy because he got separated from xie lian when they jumped into the volcano. That drawing of his anguish and anger was AMAZING. Incredible work!!!!!!!!

The scene where the 'camera' lifts behind xl pulling himself out of the grave to show the rest of the graveyard really hit me hard for some reason. Honestly the shot composition and timing in this whole thing is inspired, your storyboarding skills are out of this world. Thank you for making and sharing this gorgeous video, it hydraulically crushed my heart.

I'm sobbing. The part when Xie Lian says he is cold hurts so badly and when hua cheng protects the flower I think a part of me died. Finally the ending broke my soul. It was an amazing animation.

I knew immediately that this song was gonna make it hurt. Oh my god I was screaming and sobbing at this literal perfection!!! Yes the song was fitting but WOW!!! You managed to capture the novel and Hua Cheng’s POV perfectly. His devotion, his love, his pain. This delivered all the emotions of the novel and more. I’m speechless. This broke me in the most beautiful way.

Wow.. This seriously made me cry.. Hua cheng pov was very sad and if the story revolve around his viewpoint, the novel would be full of angts.. His longing and yearning for xielian is the most intense i have ever read.

THIS SHOWS HOW HE LOVED LIAN SO MUCH THAT HE DIED 3 TIMES FOR HIM AND IT WAS HIS GREATEST HONOR TO DIE FOR HIM,😭😭😭 he was so dedicated to him so much that he never rest in peace and wishes to protect him. never forget the years he waited and looked for him. Gosh. this shows hua cheng's pov so much.. the pain he felt when he watch his beloved get hurts so many times. ah u made me cry but this was a masterpiece.. i cant wait for the donghua but i know its gonna be 100 times torture for us to see them hurting so much

I know that this is such a tiny thing and I'm not even sure if it's important or canon or whatnot, (I've only really interacted with TGCF through the donghua and fan content so my grasp of canon is....shaky at best.) but right at the end how Feng Xin and Mu Qing stop arguing at Xie Lian's grief just hits me really hard. They don't go to comfort him (which I think makes sense) but they do stop their argument in the face of the absolute sorrow that Xie Lian is experiencing.
