Thanks for sharing this! I remember loving this song when I was a kid. My parents had recorded the soundtrack from the movie onto a blank tape. I would listen to it a lot. Beautiful music!!

David Mansfield's a really good musician, and he composed a great score here. Unfortunately, he got dragged down in the Heaven's Gate avalanche and never really had the career he should have. I saw the resoration of this recently, and was struck by how great his music score really was.

Yes I agree it is a awesome movie. Actually I know of one critic who loved the movie, Kenneth Turan!. I have the movie on DVD.

The base melody is clearly a (conscious?) rip of "The Faithful Hussar," sung at the end of Kubrick's "Paths of Glory" Very effective, nonetheless.
