Heavy Diversions! KLM B747 & B787 Take Offs Rotterdam Airport

So yesterday morning I woke up to the sound of my phone going nuts! Thick fog at Amsterdam Schiphol caused two KLM heavies to divert to Rotterdam Airport, mainly also because they were on low fuel! The 747 was PH-BFN, in the new livery, which came in from Curacao. The 787 was PH-BHC, KLM's first delivered Dreamliner, which came in from San Francisco. They were not the only diversions. Also in was an EasyJet Europe A320 OE-LKJ and a Swiss A320 HB-IJQ. And BMI Embraer E145 diverted in from Groningen where also was fog.
It was incredibly busy on top of the restaurant. Even a newscrew was present who livestreamed. It was so busy in fact that I had some heads in the original video which I needed to edit out. It was incredible to see the 747 taxi out, with some help from a marshaller. Over the years that I am spotting I never was able to film a 747in action at RTM. I saw PH-BFK parked up in the snow back in 2010. I saw PH-BFM climb out while racing to the airport on the highway in 2014. But now I have a full good quality video of PH-BFN departing our little airport! This is something I have always dreamed of! And offcourse the beautiful Dreamliner was also a amazing sight! It was the second 787 visit to our airport, the first one from a commercial airline and the first B787-9. Pay attention to the cockpits of the aircraft to see some waving! Enjoy the video!

@@samaryan6960 RTM is not far behind EIN in terms of civil flights. RTM gets a good amount of private stuff aswell which EIN lacks a bit.

Kan me van vroeger een keer herinneren dat het zo druk was dat ze de grote toestellen nauwelijks kwijt konden. Stond toen zelfs in de krant geloof ik. Blijft gaaf als ze hier een keertje toe gedwongen zijn....en te gek dat het er 2 waren, beide in de nieuwe livery....mooi mooi mooi ! Jammer dat er af en toe een lens of iets dergelijks voorzit maar je was duidelijk niet de enige daar ;) Bedankt voor het filmen en uploaden !

Prachtige beelden! bedankt voor het posten! Ik heb ooit de PH-BUK (die nu op lelystad staat) gezien op Rotterdam (zo'n 37 jaar geleden). Die dag stond het zo vol met uitgeweken vliegtuigen (747's ,DC10 en ik geloof ook DC8) dat ze op de taxibanen moesten parkeren, zoiets vergeet je nooit meer!

The other day I saw on FR24 a Cargolux 747 flying from Liège to Luxembourg (probably a ferry flight). That and the RTM-AMS leg for which that KLM 747 took off must be among the shortest 747 flights ever...

Well spotted! It's not a fire, but a orange flashing light on the taxiway which is there to say that you are entering the runway if you pass those lights.

No passengers, only flying to Schiphol which is just about 80 km's up north so hardly any fuel on board. In fact, it is impossible for a 747 to take of from Rotterdam Airport with passengers on board....that's why the operators are not happy with these diversions.....but sometimes there is no other way because of weather...and then the 80km can make just enough difference ;)

@@atariandre5014 Not entirely correct there. There have been 747s taking off from RTM in the past with pax and cargo onboard, just not a lot of fuel. :) Also the distance between RTM and AMS is about 60 km's, not 80.

They can. But the fog was really bad apparantly. Runway probably would not be seen by pilots when hitting minimums. And AMS runways have a lot of crossings which would make it quite dangerous.

Nee dat komt omdat ik op het balkon van de Brasserie stond. Als je het restaurant binnen loopt kan je door de achterkant weer naar buiten en daar loop je rechts af totdat je een trap tegenkomt die naar het balkon leidt. Vraag wel eerst het personeel of je naar boven mag om ff te spotten!
