Sailrite "reworks" an imported machine from China. That being said, they pick a better motor, and do other various tweaks to make it a great machine. It's essentially a clone of a finer machine made in Japan, but it's a good copy and the USA tweaks they do to them are a good compromise. They also sell great supplies and they are decent to talk to on the phone, etc. Nice people and they are in the Midwest and you can easily get ahold of them if need-be.

I seen all the videos of the model your showing and did some research and found out they are actually a Rex sewing machine with a couple upgrades done , so that is what I done was purchase the Rex brand new for 264.00 and order the bigger wheel with handle but it was mainly for my upholstery work I do I have had it for 5 years and I can tell you how many seats I have done hundreds and not one problem I be if you took that Sailrite sticker off you will see the Rex engraved in the metal !

rednecktalkshow I had never heard of the Rex. You're right, it looks a lot like the Sailrite. It's not the same machine, according to the owner of Sailrite. If someone is on a tight budget, the Rex may be a viable option.

Lori, Excellent video demonstrating the nation building power of your machine--I had Sailrite on the radar, as replacement for a Pfaff 2023 and a Viking Emerald 116 (plastic under-achievers). Almost all my sewing is straight stitch--ergo, a Juki TL2010Q is on its way to my door. Maybe future projects will scream zigzag and Sailrite. Thanks.

+Lori Griffiths the industrial machine can be used in light materials ?
@LoriGriffiths
@LoriGriffiths 8 жыл бұрын
+sandor N Yes, the Sailrite can sew lighter materials. I still wouldn't advise it as your only machine, unless you sew mostly heavyweight and only occasional light things.

Will the Rex607z or Sailright sew through cardbord. Example Soda box, Beer Box?
@LoriGriffiths
@LoriGriffiths 8 жыл бұрын
+Team Beer Hats It will destroy the needle, but I think you could do it. It has a lot of power and I don't think cardboard would be a problem.

Thanks for the great video. I just ordered a sailrite. I make purses. When you switch to the less aggressive foot, is that a foot specifically for this machine? Can you only use sailrite feet?
@LoriGriffiths
@LoriGriffiths 8 жыл бұрын
Yes, all the feet are from Sailrite. I think the feet are unique to Sailrite, but i don't know for sure. I've never tried to find others that would fit.

Hi Lori, I hope to start a fashion industry in Nigeria; producing cloths using local African fabrics. I hope to start with 20 sewing machines, I equally hope to employ many debutants . Any advice and recommendation from you will highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Lori, it would appear you sometimes don't pinch or hold the tails of your thread when you start-up? Why?
@LoriGriffiths
@LoriGriffiths 7 жыл бұрын
Because I was stupid? I had been using electronic machines for years and it isn't necessary. When I tossed those in the closet and started using my 1961 Necchi, I quickly learned how important tail holding actually is. You can get a rat's nest of thread, if you don't hang on to those tails. The Sailrite machine is the same way, since it is a mechanical machine.

Do work for Sailrite, or financially rewarded for recommending them? I am considering an Ultrafeed, but there are many machines out there that are junk. Is it really one of the best? Any others you would recommend? Rick Tucson

I don't work for Sailrite or receive anything from them for promoting their machine. I just really like the company and the sewing machine. They have a huge video tutorial library and you can watch the machines in action for free. You can see for yourself how capable they are.

Rick, I bought a Sailrite machine in order to rework the canvas on my sailboat and the upholstery on the cushions. I got some heavier fabric samples for actual furniture upholstery and decided to sew the fabric samples together. Like in this video, it wasn't a problem at all. Not only does this work on heavy materials, but I have also sewn lighter material for clothing after my wife's newer electronic "walmart special" wasn't working right. My machine handled it just fine. It does take some getting used to for adjustments between material types, but once you get the hang of it, it works great. I'm just a satisfied customer.

how would this machine hold up to heavy duty nylon canvas?
@LoriGriffiths
@LoriGriffiths 7 жыл бұрын
No problem with heavy canvas. It is made by a company that specializes in sailing items (Sailrite). This machine can go through many, many layers without hesitation.

@@tonynecas4825 I made a weekender bag with tons of pockets and zipper and other layers. I wanna say some of the seams I sewed over were like a centimeter thick, if not more. It handled it. I have the monster wheel so not sure if it would have worked without it. I was floored by the power this machine has. And as Lori has said, the company is so awesome. When you recieve the machine it is in great packaging and you know you are receiving something of quality. Love that it is portable.

I was considering getting a Sailrite and I might still get one in the future but there are plenty of vintage machines out there that are better built and built to last like the Singer 201 and that can be bought at a much lower price. They are powerful enough to handle everything the Sailrite can. One can also get even a Singer 66 and outfit it with a more powerful motor easily bought for under $50. I finally settled on going that route, getting a Singer 66 for under $50. Cast iron, much nicer looking (red eye edition) and one whose motor can easily be upgraded. I'll start out on that one and may or may not need another, except I'm keeping my eye out for a 201.

+1too3fore ....i have sold sailrite machines, decent copies, and horrible knock offs. The sailrite is better than most, but its more expensive too. The 201 singer just cant handle the heavier materials and v69 or heavier thread properly. The 201 dosent have a walking foot and is intended for light to medium weight fabrics. However....the 201 is probably made better than the sailrite......its just the wrong machine for the purpose. Kinda like a toyota tercel is a well made vehicle.....but its not a toyota tundra truck.

moss limbater yep, I ended up getting a Consew 206RB-4 on Craigslist but also have some vintage home machines to do small easy stuff.
@stoneblue1795

I have a fine vintage Singer 201 that will go through 8 layers of denim and also handle a couple layers of leather. Using Schmetz needles I run ONLY v69 thread on a regular basis and have NO ISSUES, running from large industrial size spools. All that being said, you are correct in the statement that the Sailrite machines are TOUGHER YET. The Singer 201 lays down a very nice stich, but the large, broad stitch of the Sailrite is really beautiful and more industrial. I would like to have one myself.

1too3fore What your missing out is the walking foot,..any machine without walking foot is not comparable with a machine like the sailrite with walking foot. ..The strengh of the sailrite with walking foot you can only find with industrial machines.

what kind of table you using?
@LoriGriffiths
@LoriGriffiths 9 жыл бұрын
I used a standard folding table (metal legs and particle board top) for awhile. I built a custom table with casters for this machine that I'm using now. Since I made the table, I bought the optional Monster flywheel and this table is barely holding up. This machine is very, very heavy and shakes any table, especially with the metal flywheel. You'll need an extremely sturdy surface.

The Rex607Z is priced at a little over 300. & does both straight & ZZ stitching with a walking foot...much better value than the Sailright and just as good quality with a 1.5 amp motor...............

+Howard Goldstein I hope that Rex holds up for you because it will likely be a more expensive machine in the long run if used for the intended purpose (hvy duty use).
@SuperModerngranny

+johnnybarbar I think the Sailrite and all other lookalikes have the same issues. On videos and demos, they seem to work well, but soon, the tiny motor will go downhill. To work heavy duty, it's best to use bigger motors. A small motor (like that of a domestic sewing machine) cannot handle all that heavy metal and torque requirement. Just listening to that tiny motor struggle makes my teeth grind. If I get a machine like that, I'd mount it on an industrial table with industrial motor....which means to say probably an industrial machine like the Consew or Juki with walking foot would be the better choice.
@LoriGriffiths
@LoriGriffiths 8 жыл бұрын
+SuperModerngranny I agree with you, if you can afford it. For small home projects, I think the Sailrite is a nice compromise.
@SuperModerngranny
@SuperModerngranny 8 жыл бұрын
Yes Lori Griffiths, it is a nice compromise, but I was wondering wouldn't a normal walking foot be similar? Just need to adjust the foot pressure to accommodate thicker layers. For the price of one sailrite table top, you could actually buy a good used industrial machine which also has the knee bar for presser foot lift, a very useful feature. I believe there are a few used industrial machines with walking foot that cost less than the sailrite. I think sailrite also sells the industrial motor and table.
