Could the shims be a inch higher on passenger side or is that to much caster

I have been in the business for 36 years......This video is wrong.....you don't put another caster shim on the other side.....that defeats the purpose of changing the cross caster.....you need .75 to 1.00 degrees of cross caster ( the passenger side being the higher negative number reading) to get most trucks to drive straight on a light to heavy crowned road......the only reason to put another caster shim on the other side is if you can't get the .75 to 1.00 degree cross caster using a shim on one side......and you would put it in the opposite direction on the other side......

Hello and thank you for your feedback. The intent of this video was to show how to raise or lower caster to be in spec by using the same shim on both sides where a cross caster issue is not present. You are correct that when making corrections for cross caster that the same shim would not be used on both sides, which is outside the scope of this video. Thank you for using Hunter equipment!

Got a question for ya, got a newer Pete, had the front blocks cut down to lower it, still has same angle of caster as factory but front end wonders and feels lazy, big dead spot front left to right? My other Petes same wheel base and suspension I pulled the block completely shimmed the left 4 and the right 5 they drive great, what should cuz the truck closest to stock drive the worst?

@@jimbro389 Did you ever solve this? Sounds like the wheels are toed out a bit. I'm no pro but always curious what the fix is or was.😀

@@RC-Heli835 I ended up removing the cut blocks myself and shimming it like 2 on the left and 3.5 on the right, installed new shorter u bolts It’s actually drives A LOT better, it doesn’t feel lazy or any of the characteristics it had which is crazy and makes no sense lol it pulls very very slight left, I need to get it in for an alignment to check the toe, The shop that did the previous work is a well known shop that does good work I think maybe they didn’t check the toe after cutting the blocks assuming it wouldn’t change due the the angels not changing and only lowering it a couple inches? I am going to take it back to them soon and have them check and adjust the toe. Funny thing I’ve debated a few of the mechanics there a few times over turning radius, they don’t change the drag link when lowering the front of a truck, instead the pop off the steering and set it back to center which is approximately 1/3 of a turn back to the right, I try telling them that 1/3 of a turn is lost to the left and gained to the right, the gear box only goes so far, I drive the trucks too the won’t turn left worth a dam until I change the drag link, I’ve found an adjustable link that’s off an international same rod ends and it fits perfectly on a 388/389 Peterbilt if your lowering or airbagging the front.

This video does not explain how the caster adjustment was determined. There are various sizes of caster shims. Also, never reuse u-bolts and nuts. Once loosened, you must install new ones. Finally, you did not mention the direction of the caster shim! Negative or positive? I rewatched it again and fortunately you guys did install it correctly: the low side of the shim closest to the front bumper; negative.
