This was for a contest to lift the most weight. The props were moved in to allow us to enter a smaller diameter category. Yes, we won! no one else was even close. To all those that think this was somehow faked HAHA right, have your friends see this and show you it is not faked. Look at my other videos I made on this

Now I can send my kids to school without waking up early. Just program it with googlemaps & GPS & a collision avoidance. :-D Domino's pizza is already using UAV's to deliver pizzas in high traffic cities; once they deliver pizzas in my area & they also have collision-avoidance (re-route around my kids UAV), and I add a full-vehicle parachute, then we're all set!!

Mike Hawk I don't think so, 50 pounds is 50 pounds, that is why the comment was made, it's like saying 100mph American, or 100mph Australian, the country is redundant once you have used the pound/mph.

***** I think aamartir was being sarcastic, in that the guy on the video said "50lbs American" there was no need to say American, all he needed to say was "50lb" Then Mike Hawk took it as him having a go at Americans, he wasn't, he was simply pointing out, sarcastically, that the "American" was not needed. It is a bit of an art sometimes picking out the sarcasm from text as opposed to being able to hear the inflection in ones voice.

ive got a micro x8 that carries a brushless 2 axis gimbal (2 axis to make sure that no props are in view) with 2 hero blacks, one in the gimbal and the other for fpv/flight filming, there is no reason to build a huge beast..... only thing it will do is add more mass / become more of a hazard in a search and rescue, and filming, you never want anything large over anyone, or anything of value.... that being said, i stay small light and efficient, i have a large x8 with a dslr brushless too though.

Tom Miller Make the 'copter fly itself using a GPS enabled sky highway. NASA has already done most of the work. Punch in the destination and go. Hire them out, like car pooling. For safety, you would need a ballistic parachute as multicopters don't have auto-rotation like a helicopter.

Very cool video and functional quad design. We just lifted 66+ lbs (30+ kg) with a 5.9 kg heli (more is possible), but this vid shows how powerful also quads can be. It's cool that the flight controller doesn't fall into a resonance - or did it just not occur because the slung load didn't start swinging? Did you have a case where the quad started to "osciallate"? This would seem likely because the mass of the quad is significantly lower than that of the slung load!
@Blueray450
@Blueray450 10 жыл бұрын
We did 33kg, the video is in here somewhere. Yes, if you want to do a static lift, hanging it is the way to go. You don't lose control if its too much weight. Full Scale helicopters lift that way because of the same reason. You can stabilize easier. The trouble is when it goes into oscillation and the weight swings around (see my video of that failure last year). But I did not crash.

Speaking from a total lay position, I can't understand the underside props. In my mind it seems like they would reduce lift unless staggered from the topside props. Obviously they know more than me but the physics puzzles me (maybe because I'm not a physicist). I'm assuming they went this route to keep the fuselage compact?

I could see you nearly lost it due to pendulum resonance. Hanging loads are very difficult to manage in flight as you probably discovered. We tried this a while back and discovered that shifting the CG extremely low like that would very easily cause a catastrophic failure of the autopilot which will not compensate properly for the swinging load that it induces. Neat though... The heavy lift we designed could lift 150 pounds and we noted that an adjustable lifting bar to hang a load was FAR better for stability... :)... Just sayin'... Like your design. Our prototype was all aluminum as well for structural strength.

@@flat-eartheruhmmm NO I am not a flat earther but ONLY because of thousands of years of hard and fast proof to the contrary. But that’s the only reason…. I mean YOU tell me me why we see Orion upside down in Australia.. should be a simple proof for you. YOU tell me why the angular diameter of a supposedly approaching and receding Sun doesn’t change in the sky as the day passes. YOU tell me why we see a rising dark wall on the opposite horizon from sunrise/set everywhere on Earth if it isn’t the shadow of the earth itself projected into our sky? YOU tell me how countries from around the world including our own have weather satellites up in ORBIT that show a spherical earth. Then as an add-on: YOU tell me why it would have to be a big global conspiracy all over the earth to keep the “flatness” quiet? TO WHAT END? I mean do tell. I am SURE you and your 13 part part series have figured this all out… I have about twenty additional flatEarth destroyers so feel free to respond for more. It doesn’t hurt that I am a professional astronomer… but go ahead… give it a shot. You only have your entire flat earth to lose.
