Great to see my fellow countrymen Engulfed get mentioned more than a few times. I heard about the band through this channel myself, and it was surprisingly pretty good. I'm not the biggest fan and follower, but there is a decent flourishing underground death metal scene here in Türkiye, especially in the metropolitan cities. Also took note of at least 10 albums from this episode to later go check, and I'm already enjoying the new Riot V at the moment. Best metal show around with the kindest and most knowledgable folk, keep on rocking in 2025 Metallurgists!

I am 100 percent with Marty on Blood Incantation. Regarding my comment in the chat about demo > full-lengths, that was directed at Blood Incantation, not Stenched, which I've never heard. There is a riff on Starspawn that is Immortal Rites, maybe note for note. I haven't listened to that album since it came out, so I can't tell you what song. But I remember listening and thinking "This sounds like Between the Buried and Me heard Altars and decided to make a death metal band." These guys are death/prog metal for the Pitchfork/Decibel crowd and that's why they appear in Time just as Deafheaven did. And I love death metal and bands like Yes, Crimson, Rush, '70s Genesis, early Gentle Giant, Jefferson Airplane, etc. Blood Incantation's transitions make it sound like the band doesn't know what it wants to be. And regarding Opeth, I think they blend styles way more smoothly and effortlessly.
@fruitchewx1272 күн бұрын
I don't agree on most of these points, though regarding the demo, I haven't listened to it so I can't comment. I started being interested in Blood Incantation a few months ago, but properly started with starspawn when I heard the buzz about Absolute Elsewhere a week or so before its release. I do think their transitions really work, at least for me. On Absolute Elsewhere it really feels like a contrast between the beauty and wonder and epicness and the horror and existential of the cosmic world they're exploring. Ever stare out into the vastness of space and start having an existential crisis? Blood Incantation sounds kind of like that to me.

Yes, I goofed by not mentioning it had a limited self-released drop in 2023, but the album didn't make real headway until this year with proper label distribution and on multiple formats, so I am indeed counting it as a 2024 album. Appreciate the reminder.

Had high hopes after the brilliance of the 2023 single "Obliquity of the Ecliptic" If Absolute Elsewhere went more in that direction instead of regressing into 70' old hat ... it might be worthy of the hype it gets but as it is, it falls short (tho its still not a bad album) ... It offers nothing Unique or Innovative & its definitely not Experimental enough to be Avant-garde even with the Electronic Elements ... I prefer the PROGRESSIVE/Technical Death Metal of "Hidden History of the Human Race" still their best ... This channels flexibility smokes Sea of Tranquility's Group Think Herd Mentality where everyone has the same opinions & cant handle divergent opinions very well ...
@crumbsucker-y7t6 күн бұрын
Hi, personal tastes aside (regardless of whether someone likes the "album" or not), concerning: "Blood Incantation-Absolute Elsewhere" where you address the "why of going backwards to the 70s" space/ambient/prog elements.....well, very simply because that was the whole point of the album: it's a "inspiration/remake/reinterpretation/homage" (call it what you will) based on the record "In search of Ancient Gods" by the UK band called Absolute Elsewhere (hence the name of the album)-released in 1976 by Warner 😉, so that was the whole point/intention/idea behind the making of.
