Great video and glad that you expanding your cooking skills and what a great spot to this winter was really bad on the Olympic Forest Record snowfall from last year took a lot of trees out on a lot of roads and there is snow in some place still that the sunlight can’t get into because there’s so many trees covering the area still Hana Hana camp ground is a huge mess of trees down in that campground there still snow up by upper ELK lake like 1 1/2 of snow was looking forward to you using the chain saw But next time ?? Glad that you guys had a good trip keep up the good work

Thank you Brian! Was certainly another great weekend on the trails. Definitely seemed to be a rough winter with the amount of downfall and road conditions though it'll only be a matter of time till we can all get through with everyone helping cut in small or big sections. Our chainsaws would have barely even made a dent in the amount of trees we came across.

We’re heading out that way next week. Good to know about all the downed trees. I already made a list of the roads that are closed for wildlife. Really wish the forest service still had road status online. Did you travel on FS 22 or 23?
@Sirby13002 жыл бұрын
I noticed that Benchmark Maps does put the gate closure dates on their map book for the FS-2270 Wynoochee gates. Oct. 1 to Apr. 30. By the looks of the big sign that will be in effect each year for quite some time .

The unincorporated campground on the east side of Wynoochee used to be a favorite of mine, it was still nice last time I was there yrs ago. I started going up there when that was well over 20 miles of nasty logging Rds coming out of Montesano: wish it hadn’t of been paved.

Definitely PNW weather - the real stuff. That first shot of the row of downed trees looked to have a sketchy slope above is starting to slide - be carefull, with all this saturated ground, you don't want to experience an Oso event.

I'll be interested in seeing how you feel those MTs do on the road in our typical PNW weather. MTs are supposedly notoriously bad on wet tarmac and we have some of the worst. I'm considering BFG KM3s for my fair-weather toy truck but I'll probably put Toyo AT3s on my "Grand Tourer" which sees alot more highway miles. Like all gear, our climate really puts things to the test and requires certain attributes that you just don't need in other climates. (When I lived in AZ, I could leave for a weeklong trip and not even bring my rainfly - there you had to worry about sharp spines and razor-like rocks that could slice right through your shoe, foot or tire.)
@jeepchronicles56442 жыл бұрын
Granted I don’t live in PNW (although I travel to the Olympic peninsula quite a bit for work) I can tell you the best MT I’ve ever had in rainy weather has been the toyo open country mt. They seem to have more siping that other MTs and they wear perfectly. Hope that helps, good luck!
@TheKPDX2 жыл бұрын
@@jeepchronicles5644 Interesting comment on the Toyo. I have run their AT & ATIIs for the last 20 years on several vehicles, most of which saw long road trips and dry and rocky offroad in CO, UT or the SW. While my toy truck will largely be a fair weather toy, it's always good to have decent wet weather tires in the PNW since literally anytime of year it can be wet or muddy up here. Thanks!

@ConquestOverland2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely love both the air mattress and sleeping bag (not being biased 😉). The air mattress allows me to leave even more bedding in there and is very comfortable. I will say that I enjoy it even more during cold weather camping as it prevents essentially all condensation from building up underneath me due to sleeping on a pocket of air, though the new stock mattress pad did a great job as well. Definitely consider getting one!

Ugh! Those Southwestern Olympic Peninsula clearcuts are the worst! That one looks like an old one from back when they didn't clean up the debris at all. Those things can become impassable - I HATE them. So ugly and really just a devastated piece of land. I'm glad they do a better job of cleaning them up these days.
