Today I slept alone in my car in the snowy mountains.

You should start your car up every couple hours and you can warm up your van and it prevents things freezing up. Very important that you get that space heater fixed, also when it’s really cold don’t let your gas tank go below half way so you don’t have problems starting it.

You need a heater and a carbon monoxide detector when cooking! You are so adventurous but please be more prepared in freezing weather! ❤

I get a little nostalgic when I see people camping in vans in the cold. I grew up in what is known as a mobile home in the US. Not sure if there is anything like it in Japan. Think of a truck container anywhere from 16 to 21 meters in length with windows like a house. Your rooms with is a little less than 5 meters. It has thin walls so in the north it can get rather chilly.

私もよく凍らせて開かなくなります。ドアレバーを引きながら、内側から外に強く押すと開く事があります。ダメな場合は運転席から乗降りします。車内の水分が結露して凍結したのが原因です。鍋とか食べたくなるので、しょうがないですよね、温めて溶かすしかありません。FFヒーターは、早めになおしましょう。冬の車中泊は、ダウンシェラフがお勧めです。

One trick my mother teached me to heat a bed in theses conditions is to put plastic bottles filled with hot water under the blankets. Another is to estimate the amount of blankets/comforters you need and to bring twice as much. From our experience after living 20 years on a péniche, when the heater doesn't work, the temperature is barely above the temperature outside. I hope your next experience of camping in a snowed area will be better.

Nice van, In fact we that kind of model ( Toyota HiAce, that camper van of yours is a Super Grandia) we used it on Family outings here in the Philippines. We don't have snow here but we have many beaches that you can enjoy..... BTW, we gonna replaced our van with the latest version of Toyota HiAce, much bigger and spacious..... Have a safe driving 🙏🙏🙏
