Very cool! The only drawback I see to landing backwards on the barge is you can't use the relative airspeed of a moving barge to reduce takeoff power required, especially on a hot day. If you could have, say, 15kts of relative wind across the deck it would keep the engine cool and give the rotors more lift without the need to hover in still air.

That's true in so, so many cases. In fact, many places have manufacturing in Mexico, and then bring people over from Mexico to work in their US facilities once they're trained and skilled at what they do, because they can't find native US labor to fill their needs. They're also not trying to cut costs by paying them less, those guys are well compensated, which is another myth that gets thrown around.

Powered barges are super, super useful, and, there's a major shortage of companies that can build a barge to spec. Lots of offshore/industrial stuff is far better suited to a barge than a boat, because a barge tends to be a much easier space to work with/in. They're not really going to ever be in high seas mind you, these are just work platforms. Think of it as having an island where you want it, when you want it, how you want it. Need to drill? Lay cable? dredge? refuel? maintain or fix something? Barges are the way. Don't get me wrong here, the barge in the video is a party barge, that's what it's built for, but, it could just as easily be configured to do tons of stuff. It's also pretty small as far as barges go, but, scaling it out isn't really difficult. It could easily be twice this size without many changes.

They are on average 80 by 30 and made to provide landing in remote or flooded areas. All Dave did was make it into something versatile instead of just utility. So chill and enjoy the content.
