my number 1 mistake seen is failure to grease the machine before use, when used 8 or more hours stop and grease the machine I cant tell you how many worn bushings and pins I've replaced. when you see a machine that the cylinders for the bucket move over an inch before the bucket starts moving you know its been operated without proper care (all the machines where I work have bright red signs either on the door on the way in or clearly visible from the operators seat) and the signs state... I NEED GREASE TO LIVE... yet I see numerous machines not getting greased that are running 8-10 hrs. straight 5-6 days a week without a single greasing for weeks on end, (these are machines I operate maybe a few days a season and I service them before I use them) more than a few times moving the machine into a safe position to grease it and all you hear is the metal on metal squeak of the pins in there bores or the bang bang bang of the arms, links, pins, and attachments slamming around due to wear. My number 2 mistake is failure to check fluid levels at the appropriate times. THESE ARE OPERATOR TASKS not mechanic tasks. I don't understand why 2 tasks that takes 15-30 minutes 1-2 times a day (based on the piece of equipment and the amount/type of use the machine gets put through) gets constantly ignored... I'm sorry if it looks like I'm complaining about it but these are things that irritate the crap out of me and are things I see regularly and they destroy these very expensive pieces of equipment that I wish I could afford.

I agree. I operated machines that were pre computer, and I was recently asked to help out a buddy. I actually visually looked in the engine compartment. As a result, I had so many looks because the new operators rely solely on the computer. That said, my buddy called me 2 days later, complaining that he lost 80% of his equipment fleet because the computer was giving false information. The computer read that the Hydraulic Fluid was full, but was bone dry, which ended up with the machine having to spend way too much money on repairs.

I try to tell people if you need to fuel, you need to grease. You're not doing anything while waiting for it to fill up, and it's a good gauge of time for a grease interval. My only exception is when mulching, since it'll be at a 1/4 tank in 4-5 hours, so I'll do it every other tankfull. And I agree about checking fluids. Except the engine oil dipstick, everything else is a sight glass. Just do a quick once around when out.

Good video.. I will always pull the dipstick in the morning, do a visual of the coolant burp tank, and quick check for oil leaks, then start the machine, skid steer, loader, motor grader, excavator, what ever the machine, and while the machine is warming up I will hit the grease fittings.. On a loader, I will grease the bucket pins two or three times a day, depending on the use.. Any time, as you walk up to a machine, do a visual, checking tires, lug nuts, under the machine for oil leaks, and such.. Treat the machine as if it were your own and you were paying to fix it when it breaks down.. That is my rant for the day.. Thanks for reading this..

We have two skid steers at work, one cat and one kubota. The cat has the swinging door that locks you inside. I think it’s a terrible design. The kubota has the door that slides up above you. Way better, you can open your door with your bucket up, you can open it and work if your ac don’t work. The swinging door is always getting caught. And on the cat no matter how much you lower the bucket or whatever the door still gets caught on the arm and never opens fully.

Front entry skid loaders are antiquated. Being locked in the cab if the bucket is up and having to climb over the bucket and not be able to get out if the bucket is up is extremely stupid....throw in the awful visibility of these machines and it's not even close. JCB/Volvo design is so much better. The only knock people (who haven't used them) have against them is the durability of the single arm....which is laughable when you consider almost ALL trackhoes and backhoes are single arm.....lol

Maybe worthwhile for a novice to invest 14 mins, to watch thru. After 2 mins of waffle and an add, I was ready to go elsewhere. With better rehearsed dialogue and a bit of editing this could have been presented in 2 mins. I learnt more reading the comments. Remake it and include the better points in the comments, then you might have enough content for 14 mins. Not sure it achieves anything by responding to every comment with a bland acknowledgement.
