I have several things I want to say. A) This series is one of the few that really scratched the itch I had for a greater understanding of how the monsters work, not just through ecology, but through gameplay. I appreciate that you made it because you felt similar. B) Getting this out of the way before the eventual Eschaton video, I think the main problem with it was that even if you met the threshold, it gave you a second check to know when to heal on time, something you wouldn't know how to do without trial and error. A deeply frustrating way to test something, specifically against boss fights that take the better part of an hour. So if you were new to the fight, you basically got fucked for being new, not for not paying attention. C) Alatreon in Iceborne specifically, as I'm sure we have all heard before, is a victim of that game's deemphasis on prep work. And while I might make something of my own on this one day, I want to put it out there for others now. I don't think the old games were particularly good at it either. You basically had to kill a monster before figuring out how to properly fight it, and the games weren't always the best at indicating what tools you needed, and if you did, how to get them. If they were even accessible at the time. If only there was a system introduced where you could track a monster to get more information on it, a way to plan ahead before you started a hunt. And if only there was a system introduced where you had tools that could be used multiple times throughout a hunt without having to run off somewhere to get materials to make more every time you ran out, cause you only could ever have a limited amount. Long winded mechanics discussion aside, I really appreciate the effort you put into this. I hope my ramblings are seen as a me wanting to engage with the work on the same level it engages with us. In the most non parasocial way possible.

I think he might just be the single best fight in mainline MH. He’s so dynamic and really feels like a final exam on the game’s mechanics, especially in Iceborne, where it feels like he tests your knowledge of the different elders. I used to think the nova was detrimental to the fight, but it’s super manageable. I just wish it buffed him rather than outright OHKOing you, that would definitely make it feel less cheap. But yeah, fantastic design, lovely equipment, and a killer theme to boot - an all around 10/10 guy, I think! This was a super fun series, it was great seeing your script-writing skills improve with every episode too! See you in 6th gen because Lagiacrus and underwater combat are totally definitely going to return! Source: yeah

Alatreon is one of my favorite elders. It's sound design and theme in iceborne are especially cool to me. The horrid, almost metallic roars make it feel so unnatural and wrong, which really fits its unstable nature. Iceborne Alatreon is a perfect fight in my eyes. Embodies the tenants of MH while exacerbating it to its limits for a Black Dragon tier threat. I love how mechanically complex it is. It’s a real puzzle to beat. I love how the hit zones each have varied elemental weakness values. The forelimbs take the most, while the head takes the second most. If you want to deal as much elemental damage as possible, you can target the forelimbs, but that opens you up to extending the fight longer because you didn’t deal enough raw to kill him within a 3rd cycle. The fight itself requires you to master it. Be aggressive and adaptive. Simply dodging Alatreon is hard enough, but also attacking it effectively is a real challenge. Alatreon's attacks seem to cover for the homes in its defence from the prior attack, so the player is required to constantly be aware of openings.

As someone who's practically played only the 5th gen games this series has been a cool way to learn about the rest of the series. While it's a shame it's over, I'm interested to see what other, more specific, videos you'll make. I loved the siege monster, under water combat, and primordial malzeno vids. A vid about escaton judgement sounds interesting, perhaps it could be about other one hit kill moves in the series or controversial monster attacks? Even if it's just about escaton I'm fine, good to be focused on a particular point instead of spreading yourself thin. The mention of a rampage vid could be neat too, tho I'd imagine the need to do rampage quests would suck. Excited to see what comes next!

About Alatreon's new roars, when it uses flame-based attacks, you can hear, before the attacks go off, the same sound that a female hunter makes (with the voice selection Cantaperme uses for his hunter Anna) when knocked away. When it does water-based attacks, there is a noise like bird singing just before it splits water. All of that, in the middle of the synthetic/robotic sounds, was probably intentional to make Alatreon's new roars as much unsetting and unnatural as possible. An indication that Alatreon is more than just another Elder Dragon. In dragon active, Alatreon deliberately uses more the opposite elements to its previous active to catch the hunters who use fire resistant armors against fire active, which are likely weak to ice and water (same for ice resistant armors against ice active, which are weak against fire): If Alatreon was in fire active, it will perform more ice-based attacks after it goes in dragon active and it will only do ice, water and dragon-based attacks while flying in dragon active. The opposite if Alatreon was in ice active: it will prefer fire-based attacks once in dragon active and it will do only fire, water (because he can ignite the puddles he leaves with fire attacks) and dragon-based attacks while flying in dragon active. Alatreon can swap from ice active to fire active without going to dragon active (in the cutscene), so dragon active is likely a required preliminary step for Escaton Judgment (dragon active is basically Alatreon building up power for Escaton Judgment). And given how all of Alatreon's elemental attacks are varied, precise and deliberate (like the fire ball splitting into three columns to catch would-be-dodgers or all of Alatreon's physical attacks having dragon element to shut down the hunter's element so they can't shut down Escaton Judgment), Iceborne Alatreon is basically one who is fully in control of its elemental powers, contrary to the elementally unstable Alatreon of previous games. Sad that this is the last of the Evolution series. Hopefully, it will come back in full force once MHWilds hits (Akantor and Ukanlos are long due for a big comeback). An evolution series about the weapons would be a challenging, but interesting idea.

Alatreon had arguably the best remake in the entirety of the series, the mechanics, the theme, the balanced difficulty, and the attack patterns/hit boxes are all perfected with his fifth gen remake. Imo: alatreon's fight, mechanics, hit boxes and everything else is monster hunters monster recipe perfected and mastered in every single way.

ICEBORNE Alatreon is probably my favorite Alatreon, he's challenging and fun, the elemental mechanic is unique and it forces players to truly prepare and optimized accordingly, which is ironic because alot of soo called wannabe veterans always lecture new players that they want to bring back preparations again before hunting. It's truly a shame that those soo called wannabe Veterans hate Iceborne Alatreon to the point of review bombing the game on steam.
@maniacx16266 ай бұрын
My issue with the fight was always it felt restrictive in terms of build. It's usually my issue with fights like Fatalis and Extreme Behemoth too. Sometimes it's nice to have that knowledge and optimization check, but I also like having the option to play a different style. I think the spectacle is phenomenal, but they weren't fun to me personally because the style of hunting that is fun to me couldn't really do it which is much more slow and steady. Wouldn't say worth a review bomb or calling them bad as a whole, but just fights that for me personally weren't worth much more than a couple hunts.

I'm surprised you didn't mention this at all, part of the reason why Alatreon's Icon in the old game are a question mark was because of it's unstable element and seclusive behavior when it was spotted they thought it was another Elder Dragon like Kushala and Teostra, you could also say this was the reason Alatreon borrow a lot of their moveset. Disregarding the official trailer, this mistaken for another Elder Dragon thing you can also see in its first introduction Iceborne, where it will come shoot ice beam and freeze the arena making you think this is a Velkhana it even shows up briefly as silhouette and they do look kinda similar. But of course it is not a Velkhana, it immediately switch to Fire Element and burns down the whole arena, revealing itself for the very first time in Monster Hunter not just in-game universe but also the franchise history as Alatreon, The Blazing Black Dragon. This is also mean canonically this the first time the world see Alatreon and able to document it hence why the icon was no longer a question mark. Honestly build up always stood out to me and always make me thing that was the original intention before they decide to make a whole trailer for it

I always found it odd that they decided to introduce this whole horn breaking gimmick for World's Alatreon. Having started with 3U, I knew the horns were valuable and everything (to the players at least), but I figured it wasn't any sort of reference to that. Rather, it just seemed like a rather arbitrary choice. I had no idea it was calling back to his initial appearance in Tri. I guess this is a good showcase of why it's good to experience monsters across different games, even within the same generation. Fighting him in 3U and Gen/GU, I also found him to be pretty boring, because as a SnS user I'm essentially screwed out of a lot of damage when he decides to go into flight mode. But I have a feeling if I fought him in Tri, it would've clicked a lot more for me. Being able to delay flight mode is already cool, but disabling it entirely? That sounds awesome.

IIRC you mentioned a history of invader monsters once, maybe there's other topics too?
@HeavyWings6 ай бұрын
It wasn't a "History of Invaders" but more like a video about how they're not that interesting. It was written when Rise and Sunbreak were coming out and a huge point of discourse was "there's no invaders anymore :(". I personally didn't mind that because I felt like invaders kind of sucked in Iceborne and didn't really add much. That's what the video would have been about. I think I dropped the idea for something else, can't remember what, and the invader stuff ended up never being used. I am considering another series but I wanna work at it a bit more.

@@HeavyWings thank you. I use lance so I'm still struggling on what to counter and guard and when to use claw to avoid the breathes. It's definitely a me problem since my gear is pretty great. I'm definitely not the best hunter out there but I would want to and try to be one.

thank God for iceborne alatreon I was never a fan of the monster before then, even if EJ is a bit stupid with the healing check the other additions make up for it

I mentioned him specifically because there was a point where I did consider making a video about him before deciding there wasn't really much to discuss.

You technically can stop Escaton by outright killing him before he does it. It's definitely not easy, though. Also that "hey" in the roar wasn't there in the trailer for him, or even in the cutscene introducing him. Did they just... make a mistake with his roars in actual gameplay, and not bother fixing that?

The only problem with its dps check is with other monsters you fail and they get stronger or do ultimate attack. with alatreon you fail you die Is he hard for me? No I beat him solo in fire and ice with it dying with switch axe. Also why was people so mad about alatron dps check and not kulve taroth or safi if you fail those the quest just ends Every monster is a dps check anyways you have a time limit to kill them and I see nobody talking about that. Also can you talk about weapons evolution or something?
@Mirawaru6 ай бұрын
Also DPS checks are very often a thing also outside of the quest time limit Ceadeus for example worked exactly like Kulve Taroth in phase 1, you don't deal enough damage to break its beard? It just leaves and you instantly fail the quest Or also all those monsters that get glowing weakspots till you either stagger them or they use a strong move that removes the colored weakspots (Nergigante, Magnamalo, Astalos to name a few) those are still dps checks, just more forgiving
