I genuinely don’t understand why MH4U hasn’t had a remaster or at least a port when capcom literally has half the work for it already done when they ported MHGU/MHXX from the 3ds to the switch. Not to mention all their other franchises like street fighter and DMC have remaster collections.

Because they don't want to compete with their own franchise. MonHun is unique in the sense that there is no direct competitor (and the ones that spawn are incredibly short lived or not that good), so the only real competitors are other MonHun games. The solution is simply not to port them.

See I would sort of agree with that, but they're constantly putting out older Capcom fighting games with online included. Would they not compete with the current live service Street Fighter 6? Not to mention that at one point Capcom was actively selling 3U, 4U, Gen, Gen Ultimate, World and Rise simultaneously. I don't think self-competition is a concern.

I keep thinking about this topic, especially after the tragic loss of the official 3DS and Wii U’s online servers. Pretendo aside, I’d be 100% on board with buying these games again on newer platforms, and I can totally see a lot of players who began with titles like World to really enjoy these classic titles. Especially 4U, as it always feels like the most natural progression if you wish to go backwards. Generations Ultimate is also a great recommendation for those who love Rise/Sunbreak, as a lot of the attacks and movesets used in Rise are an evolution of GenU’s Hunter Arts.

The underwater combat is mostly fine. What mainly sucks is the nerfs to bowguns with it. So now you have to worry about Z axis dodging while also having to get closer than you normally would with bows/guns.

The sad and real issue why old MH titles aren't being rereleased is purely BECAUSE of tied Online servers of each title. It takes money to run a server that can handle many thousands, and in some MH online servers, like Tri, there was the possibility to get banned/suspended from online play. This means that there were real people who were put to manage those online servers. If these games were to be rerelease, would we be satisfied if everything was made for single player content?

I don't think its that expensive for the handheld games since they're P2P. Capcom also isn't fussed about online for older games since the Fighting Collections have them for each game.

My only point of contention with your list and changes is that DOS should be included as well. DOS is such a unique type of agony in the series, it would be a shame to lose it, especially since there's a modestly sized community around it. Give me DOS with sensible controls and we're all gucci.

I really don't think that's the case. Capcom loves rereleasing games so often. Resident Evil, Street Fighter, Megaman, Ace Attorney. Why would they treat Monster Hunter that differently? A good parallel could be Street Fighter. Street Fighter got a collection or two with a lot of characters that haven't returned recently. Street Fighter 6 seems to continue the trend of DLC characters being returning fan favorites. That said, the DLC characters do get redesigns, while returning Monsters frequently don't get visually changed up too much.

The issue with MH that is fundamentally different from all other Capcom games is that each title is tied to a dedicated server, and those servers are monitored by real people. If Capcom were to release an old MH game in some way, it will have to be an offline only experience due to the company not wanting to expend resources to monitor and support old online services. I don't see many people being satisfied with that, so it is indeed easier to just port the monsters.

That's probably a minor concern but at the same time - they're releasing fighting game collections with online support, including the very coveted Marvel vs Capcom games. Surely they'd be stealing Street Fighter 6 players but Capcom doesn't seem to care - I don't think Freedom Unite would actually meaningfully compete with Wilds, the games are too different. Same with World, Rise etc.

Fun fact about how bad MH3U WiiU is you can improve the framerate by turning down the consoles internal resolution in the system settings. I normally leave my WiiU at 720p because when playing at 480p the in game text is basically unreadable.

i think it would be a good minimum for them to do freedom, freedom unite, 3 ultimate, and 4 ultimate. the more the better, but at least those four should get new players a good look at the older games (mh1 with forced controller controls would be funny.) 3 ultimate plays pretty well on single screen on the wii u as is, 4u could probably copy a good amount of that. honestly, i think people overestimate how integral the bottom screen was. zero changes, aside from online, 60 (or uncapped) fps, 4u ui for single screen, and fixed charm tables in 3u (thank god i got table 10 on my main save.) I would argue that gameplay changes especially defeat the point of bringing the classics forwards.

Emulators aren't perfect. PPSSPP is probably the best emulator I've used but native ports are almost always better. Much more customisable.

​@@HeavyWingsinstead of spending 60-70 dllrs on each old game, you can save up for a good PC, and while it's true that emulators are not perfect, it's a better way to play these games than having to buy a new console, plus paying a subscription for playing online each month or year. Oh, and besides how companies work nowadays, probably you'd have to pay for the old games at a current full game price just with better resolution and less event quests (I'm watching you, MHXX and it's international release MHGU, you removed many event quests as the licences from the collabs already expired). You'll even be able to play three games which didn't even came out from Japan or asia officially (2DOS, P3rd and Frontier)

18:20 one thing to remember about PSP games is that technically, EVERY game that had Ad-Hoc (local) multiplayer was allowed to be played globally on official servers. The method to do this was to have your PS3 hooked up to the internet with an app called Ad-Hoc Party downloaded. You then plugged your PSP into your PS3 via a USB cable and could play any ad-hoc multiplayer game with anyone else using the service. It wasn't a perfect analog for built-in online play, but many developers like Capcom and Square Enix just didn't put online modes in games clearly built in part for some kind of online functionality because of this service being seen as a replacement for them having to host their own servers. As far as I know the quests also scaled in difficulty based on how many players were in the party, though I could be misremembering that bit

I'd be so sad if GU didn't come to other platforms while other games did. I love GU but hate playing it on my switch. 30fps hurts, especially when it has loads of input lag thanks to the switch itself. GU on PC would be a dream come true.

Asking people why they should care about Old MH when World/Rise exist is like asking Zelda fans to ignore all games other than BOTW/TOTK, which just makes no sense. The older games have charm and unique features, monsters, and mechanics all their own, they aren’t just inferior experiments on what World and Rise would become. For a company seemingly hellbent on remastering and porting every single one of their legacy franchises to anything that will run them, I’m honestly shocked that MH still hasn’t seen any sort of HD collection in the entirety of its existence.

Yeah this was Chapter 1 of the video, but it was an important question to try and answer because it is a sentiment you see a lot. I'm not entirely sure if the Zelda comparison works though, since those games tend to change a lot per entry compared to MH which has slowly evolved.

3U, 4U, and GenU have an incredible amount of nintendo crossover events so if they were to come back those event quest along with its armor sets, weapons, and guild card backgrounds would jave to be removed. Also not to mention the anime event quest in 4U and GenU which is an entirely different problem

I like how older games look, there is an incredible amount of deliberate choice in every texture because the resolution is so small, I would pay more than the average person for ports of these old games, lol but that being said, I can imagine the average person would buy a HD collection pack consistenting of 3-4 games (1 game per gen perhaps?) for 70 bucks, about 17~ bucks per game.

Something I also don't hear people mention as often is the sound design. Everything sounded so punchy and crunchy in the older games. Mining in older games gives off a loud "clank" followed by the infamous monster hunter "got a resource" sound effect. Nowadays it's just a gentle "tink" and that's your lot. Doesn't even have the classic item sound, just a faint whistle kinda noise. The sound design doesn't feel nearly as impactful. The even nerfed Diablos' amazing roar in Rise (not mechanically. They genuinely made it shorter and quieter). Sure it's slightly more "realistic" but I absolutely prefer the over the top sound design of the originals. I think what also annoys me is that the new sound design doesn't feel quite as iconic like with the aforementioned resource sound effect. There's nothing particularly memorable with them.

Well I’ve been on a journey to hunt every monster in the series just got portable 3rd and have been going through so after that I only need to play 2 more games being 3U for Dire marlalis, abyssal, and gold beard and freedom unite for any other random monster. In addition to what you said about which games to bring back, gen 1 was basically a tech demo and is hardly worth remaking when Freedom Unite exists With how many people are screaming to bring these games back and how many newbies are trying to get into older games they could definitely just port FU, 3U, 4U and Gen U using Gen U assets (they will have to remake some assets still) and just 30 FPS and call it a day with great success The problem is that they want us to play new games, not old ones and there's a start of Gen 6 soon. Best I can imagine happening is them releasing 3U, 4U and Gen U ports between the end of Gen 6 and start of Gen 7, so...

As someone who's been playing since 2005: No, I don't want to go back to the slower pace of the old games. That fucking *sucks*. Going back to MHGU or even 4U feels like I'm playing drunk, under water, in slow motion. Just stick to World's speed and we'll be golden. EDIT: To add to that, people are looking at the past games with rose-tinted glasses, not realising the fucking GRIND those used to be. I remember in Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, having to massacre not one, but at least 15 Gogdamn *generations* of Rathalos just to get the two Ruby drops to complete the armor set. IN HIGH RANK. Two. Ruby Drops. In High Rank. Two Rubies that you could only get from: Tail Cut, shiny drop, breaking the head and quest rewards. All at a lovely 2% each. With the newer games, they adjusted things MUCH more fairly, making it just a bit of a grind to get certain parts and not a "I'm going to fucking punch the next person who talks to me in the face purely to get rid of this anger" levels of grind.

The only reason I can think that the devs for monster hunter havent done a remake or remaster, is cause they always are innovating. Sure they could add current mechanics to the older games, but they are very limited when it comes to expanding the game unlike a new release like with wilds.

Remakes will probably never happen. The Monster Hunter series already uses past monsters in current games while also using maps with very similar themes (forest, dessert, volcano, tundra, etc. There is just not enough missed content to expect Capcom to invest in this direction. It would be a different story if every title only featured new monster with little to no repeated monsters, but since they do constantly remaster monsters in current titles, the money they stand to make just isn’t there when compared to simply designing a new game.

The Final fantasy 1-6 Pixel remaster bundle is about 75 USD on steam right now. The MVC Collection is 50 dollars. The Metal Gear Solid Master Collection with MG 1&2, MGS 1, 2, 3 is 60 dollars. Halo MCC is 40 dollars on Steam. I think the most likely scenario would be a collection of games for PC, PS5, Xbox, and maybe PS4, with MH G, G2, 3U, 4U, and GU. I would probably pay 60-70 for the whole collection, assuming some QOL niceties, but not much visual touchups, and functioning online play. It would be very nice to get it below 60.

The FF remasters price is kind of ridiculous lmao, should drop it by at least 15. Interestingly enough MvC collection is a higher price than that of the other fighters, but I think that's the Marvel license coming into play. MGS is the price of a PS4 game but you can at least get em individually so if you wanted you could just go for Sons of Liberty £15 easy. I agree that a full bundle would absolutely be in the 60-70 range but I'd prefer individual releases for that reason. Let people pick and choose.

i've went back and played 1 a couple years back and it's hard to get used to the analog stick, I also dont see it doing well as a remaster. 2 i'd like to see ported, some slight qol updates but largely untouched since its a pretty unique game in the series Freedom unite, good for a port though i think it would require some qol and hitbox changes. (i think this is the one i have the most hours in) 4u I think just needs a port, maybe some qol but it's such a blast to play for me still. if capcom is feeling particularly crazy, release frontier as a standalone game

I personally would like all the games/versions even though that's so very unlikely. Like the differences between Monster Hunter Freedom 1 vs 2 vs Unite all are kinda unique. Example would be the Akantor Bow in MHF2 was OP but in MHFU it was nerfed so much, actually kind of crazy differences. Also some differences would be the new skills added in like Unite changes the way you play from Freedom 2 since there are more choices. Plus all the changes to weapon damage, or armor sets. I do hope they would also bring back or figure out how to work out the collaborations part, there are some collabs like you mentioned that are really cool, and some fun ones that the West never got. Plus then there is the Event Quests or DLC quests that has differences between JP version and West version. One small thing is I would love if Capcom started releasing the expansions complete on disk again. Like if you own a Switch and have Sunbreak there is no way at the moment to get everything on cartridge so you don't need online to get all the content. Luckily for something like Zelda: Breath of the Wild there is a Japanese version (with English) that has the base BOTW and DLC all included on cartridge without download, hope Capcom tries that again like they did between in the past with Monster Hunter Series.

This is something that I've been thinking about for a while now and tbh I'm still very disappointed Capcom never gave us a monster hunter anniversary collection imagine how good it would be to play MH1 MH2 MH3U and MH4U with higher resolution, framerates, and online play at a reasonable price I would totally pay for that and a lot of other people would too Capcom dosen't realize how much ppl miss oldschool monster especially after the old eshops closed.

I absolutely do not want a remaster of old MH titles because the majority of the games still have fans maintaining close-knit communities and running private servers, and I guarantee that if they wanted to make a collection of older games, they would go after the fan servers legally

For me: The ideal games to port would be MH1G, Dos, Freedom Unite, Tri, Portable 3rd, 3U, 4U, and GenU (wider release). The biggest hurdle would be a of the collab events. I wouldn't like for them all the just be relived, rather I'd prefer them to just be "replaced" with similar looking gear to keep the vibe the original games, 4U just wouldn't feel the same without the Star Knight armor.

i would be totally down to have any or all of the pre 5th generation games on steam, switch, ps5 or whatever (obvs not xbox though), i loved playing 3 and 4 ultimate on emulators after getting into mh through world, and i really enjoyed gu on switch. however i have the feeling that every new mh game and generation will make a return of older titles less likely because every new mh game will be another step away from pre 5th gen and capcom will be like: "see, they dont want old, they want new!" i had high hopes for a remaster of at least 4u for the 20th anniversary, that was the perfect time to release something like that...

I don't think they would conclude that based on new game sales. If they rereleased 3 Ultimate or something and it flopped, then they would go "ah I guess nobody wants those games back". But they haven't yet tried so I don't think they would conclude that just yet.

Didn't expect all this Wii U slander. The Wii U was the first Plattform for some of the best games to ever be and had lots of fun ideas. It wasn't supported much by third parties, but Nintendo's game output over it's short life-span was really good. Splatoon started there, as did the current open-world Zelda games, Mario 3D World, Nintendo Land, DKC Tropical Freeze, Smash 4, even Xenoblade X, MH3U, The Wonderful 101 and lots more. I'd thought hating on the Wii U has been out of style for a while now but i guess not everywhere

I could really go into why I hate the Wii U but I'll distill it into some key bullet points - Took ages to get good games (the ones you listed were few and far between) - didn't have any of it's rivals multiplats - feels bad to use, takes ages to load, slow. - the off TV mode is confusing, compared to the Switch where its so simple - Dual screen gaming isn't as good when the screens are so far apart. With the DS you simply move your eyes, with the Wii U you genuinely have to physically move your head.

I am eager to play MH4U on the PS5. Capcom has been remastering a lot of fighting games recently. Fingers crossed. They even remastered Onimusha warlords and I played Oni 2 as a kid.

I played all the monhan games after freedom when they were contemporary and still play MHFU, MH3G and MH4G on emulator. Honestly all the games need is anti aliasing for the most part, its not ideal but they're old games and I think people need to accept that. I will also note these games for the most part emulate pretty easily, not that capcom shouldnt re-release the games, but they emulate well for people who are waiting for them to make re-releases.

I still hold on to the hope that maybe someday they will finally decide to port these older titles. I personally never owned a Wii u nor a 3DS so I never got to experience Tri/3U and 4U, which I've always wanted to play since I was a kid after being hooked on the series with MHFU, so I'll gladly huff that copium. Same for a PC port of MHGU, it is an absolute SIN as far as I'm concerned that that game isn't on PC considering how much of a loveletter it is to MH fans. I always try to sell friends who started with 5th gen MH to give GU a shot but some people just don't want to buy a switch and I totally get it.

when it comes to the question or qol along with weapon mechanics and additional content added, it depends on if its a re-release or a remaster, if its a re-release i would rather they don't change anything when it comes to qol and mechanics, as for a remaster, than I expect there to be improvements and no, fixing bugs does not count as an improvement, as for additional content i don't really care for ether option, more monsters means more hunts which means more chances of fun, on the other hand it also means more chances of shitty not fun hunts that just piss me off

In my opinion, Capcom should rerelease the games based on what monsters would be available, as a base for people to see most of what the series has to offer. Because of that, Freedom Unite, Three Ultimate, Four Ultimate, and Generations Ultimate makes the most sense for them to focus on, as they contain most, if not all, of Gen 1-4 monsters. Any other game in the series I believe should be fully remade to be more similar to Generation 5/6 games, as in terms of combat, they are severely outdated.

I played most of the games through emulation and I am begging for pc ports, mhgu even runs at 120fps and feels like a pc port, but mh4u drops frames and older ones breaks when 30fps limit removed

For me when playing older games I’m not so bothered by the graphics as resolution, I can sympathise with lower quality models and textures but if the resolution is too low it is just annoying. As for not knowing which games to port. They could be bundled as a collectors edition where players can chose which to download from within.

My main issue would not be how the older games look (i mean, a little improvemente would be nice but they're overall ok), but rather how they play. I started with world, fell in love, then played iceborne, rise and sunbreak but was always curious to try the older one, especially MH4U and MH3. Ofc i went for an emulator because i played a little of Generations on my 3DS and my hands legittimaly hurt when i played it and for reaching 60fps. But when i started MH4U i often had to take big breaks from it and suddendly stopped a short while into high rank because the fights take me around 45 mins to complete, the drops from monsters are really minimal (i had to kill like 20 lr gore magalas to have an armor that allowed me to jump into hr) and mostly of all monsters' attack hitboxes are completely broken, meaning the attack hurts you where there are no effects or animations. I really feel bad for abandoning it because i was really enjoying it and the monster roster was so good, comparable for me to the one of sunbreak which i think is the best of 5th gen, but the issues with the fights are just too many.

I feel like if any old MH games were to ever be remastered, it'd be FU, 3U, and 4U. Each one is the definitive experience of their generation (or generations, with FU having most of the content from both gen 1 and 2). it's kind of arguable with 4U I guess, but I'd say GU is more of an all-rounder as opposed to specifically 4th gen representation given it doesn't even have every monster from the generation. I suppose there's arguments that could be made for Freedom and P3rd. Even though it has all the main content from the first two generations of games, FU is still a different experience from any 1st generation game. Meanwhile, P3rd has a pretty decent amount of content that's just completely absent from 3U, from monsters to mechanics, and is also (as stated in the video) one of the best-selling games in the series so I highly doubt they wouldn't at least consider it.

I have owned at some point almost every mainline MH game except one...Monster hunter Uno, the first one, which is probably the most painful one Freedom Unite is good but my god is so unfair MH tri was my introduction and taught me how to play MH. It also has the mix bowgun which is the most broken weapon ever, had less weapons, introduced the switch Axe and had my favorite online town Loc lac (I think that was the name) and has the best siege fight in the series, Jhen Morrah MH portable 3rd removed the underwater combat and was the debut of Zinogre MH3U the definitive way to play mh 3U but no loc lac. MH4U The best Tradional MH game ever. Has the best story, tons of content, has a system to trade parts to get parts of monster that arent in the game which allowed you to craft Lagiacruss gear even when He is not in the game, this needs to comeback. Apex was a good idea but the execution was meh, weystone awful you couldn't hurt apex without these stones. Charge Blade and Insect Glaive introduced here and broken as fuck Generations and Gen UL ironic enough couldn't get into it.

All the portable/freedom games control great on a Vita, I own physicals but play them on a Vita, as Adrenaline allows the right stick to mimic the dpad. 3U/4U would be great to be ported, 4U has returning characters and 3U for underwater. Tri is too hard to port over with some motion control segments. 3U's port is also nearly done with it on the Wii U

I think the real reason is that they want everyone in the latest game. If they rerelease this games, the player base will be split in 4 or 5 different games, games which I remind you will not be extensively monetized like Wolrd or Rise. Capcom will rerelease this games only in an emergency, we need money now type of emergency.

in regards to price, i could see most of the older games being 20-30 dollars, probably with huge sales and bundles if on steam. I'd easily pay 20 dollars for 4u on steam with no graphics upgrade, just fixing the ui so it works with only one screen, and they already did that with a previous game when they made generations into GU, so that's probably not hard

My guess would be around Stories' pricing if they had the same kind of enhancements. Although interestingly enough Wings of Ruin is like 2x the price of Rise, so maybe mainline games would be lower, like 15 dollars or something. That's around the same amount they were being sold for on 3ds.

Sure, they'd have to change something about it for each game, but it doesn't have to appear in the story at all. I'd love for this games to be remaster and brought back for new hardware, but if I'm being honest, what I'd really prefer is them being ambitious and making a new game in the style of Generations with literally all the content from this games, stylized graphics (so it could be played in switch 2 and not required 6 years to make), and a gameplay philosophy closer to older titles, so the classic monster Hunter feeling of struggle and limitations. A true compilation of what older monster hunter was, but with tons of villages, maps and monster. If the maps could be somewhat procedural in nature, even better. And if they decided to ramp up the survival, gathering aspects even better. More rpg elements, less boss rush. And a fucking story taking you from point a to point b, for God sake. I know is never gonna happen, but it's what I want.

1:35 Eh I would agree to a point, but some games just do age poorly. Be it control schemes that weren't common places for a genre yet, lag or graphics. It can ve simple things like OoT aging poorly due to wonky camera controls and a bad fast travel system, it doesn't make the games unplayable so keep your rose tinted pitch forks down, but the issue with iconic games is that they seem less impressive as time goes on as what they did well was taken and reused and what they did badly got replaced.
