If this was sold to Don Gariesthanks. He paid about 20;000 for it and restored it for about 180,000.when he died, his son in law sold it to an Indonesian for 200,000.@

Hi there.. Do you have somewhere information on what color was under the red paint when it was restored? I try to find out more about this car for the registry. This car is now restored in black paint in Indonesia. Best regards.

At the time of this sale it was the highest price paid for a VW. There was a long story about a guy from Texas that purchased it and attempted to have it restored. That didn’t end well and last I heard it ended up being purchased by a middle eastern sheikh who poured lots of cash into the restoration.

If this is a real Hebmüller, they are very very rare - even in Germany.

The Bush family of Texas (George W. & George H. W.) now have this in their collection of many vintage VW's and Porsches.... I know for a fact that it did not go to Asia.

State your facts. Din garies was my brother and I kept his books on all his business and vintage cars for 35 yeats. He had 17 cars when he died. I handled his estate and distributed all the cars to his daughter. Her husband sold rhe cars off. And no. 6 went to Indonesia.

@davfourtwenty It's harder t'n hell to write nonchalantly about this lil' motorised gem, fella... I'm in no way a bugs nut, but I own VW californias from 1987, and I can cop perfectly with the poor ones whose 1st. reaction to this vid hafta be a hard-on and a river od cry after....
