As many others have said, I love this method of teaching. The first time through the videos, I haven't a clue what is being said, but I refrain from looking up every word and keep listening to the videos over and over, in time the light bulb comes on! amazing. I am 67, kids are all gone and I have extra time on my hands. One day I thought, Can I even figure out the difference between the letters of the Hebrew alphabet. So I began just learning to recognize the shapes of the letters and their sounds. Now I'm up to this video! I'm try;ing to hone in on my goal for learning Biblical Hebrew. and I think I've come to the goal of completing this course and being able to read some portions of scripture in Hebrew. Thanks for all you are doing.

Estos son los finales posesivos plurales (sufijos) ... mis ojos ... sus oídos ... sus manos. Hi, I have a question: Why do you use Suffixes for Plural between 8:26 - 9:29?
@jesusstudentbrett4 жыл бұрын
I am in Israel learning Biblical Hebrew finishing up my 2nd semester and we have been learning this stuff, so I will share my view. In the time interval you said, they are taking the words for IN FRONT OF (BEFORE) & IN BACK OF (AFTER) and the endings make it your front your back my front my back etc. Example: Beth says "I am in front of you" Abraham says "I am in front of you". Masculine & feminine endings differ slightly.
@cm11154 жыл бұрын
@@jesusstudentbrett Hi Why do they use the pluralform for you? example I stand behind you (2.m or f, Plural - not singular). Is there a difference, if soneone says, he or she stands behind or before one or more persons????
@AlephwithBeth4 жыл бұрын
Yes, there is a difference if you're in front of one person vs. multiple people. In front of you (m. sg.) לְפָנֶיךָ (what I say to Avram) In front of you (f. sg.) לְפָנַיִךְ (what Avram says to me) In front of y'all (m. pl.) לִפְנֵיכֶם (Not used in this video) The suffix is only "plural" in the sense that it indicates that the possessed noun "face" is plural: panim "face" is always plural in Hebrew. The possessor (me or Avram) is singular. This whole lesson is about the possessive suffixes attached to plural possessed nouns, whether the possessor is sg. or plural.
@scottedgren19944 жыл бұрын
@@AlephwithBeth Okay, that makes perfect sense, especially in the case of פָנִים, but what about אַחַר? I believe that's a preposition, right? How can a preposition be plural? It's probably just a quirk of the language for which there's no answer, but I'm curious if there's an explanation.

At 15:26 is it proper to procede a proper name with ה when asking a question? Because I could only find one place in the Hebrew Bible-Jeremiah 8:19-where the construction היהוה occurs. Does the ה here function similarly to the word isn’t? So would your question roughly translate to: “Isn’t Yahweh your God?” Thank you!
@AlephwithBeth4 жыл бұрын
Hi Preston, the interrogative he prefix affixes to the first word of the sentence, and I'm not aware of any constraints about what kind of word it can attach to. The interrogative he just turns a statement into a yes-no question, so a better translation in this case would be "Is Yahweh your God?" For a more leading question with a negative, "Isn't...?" we would probably say "ha-lo'...?" See 1 Samuel. 1:8 in Lesson 39B for an example.

16:20-16:40, is "el-o-hay" specifically for the interrogative?
@AlephwithBeth4 жыл бұрын
The form אֱלֹהֵי is the construct form (see lesson 11), meaning it has a possessor right after it, so a super literal translation would be "god of ___". In this case, "God of Abraham" and "God of the children of Israel"

Reading the Bible in Hebrew makes it seem like an entirely different narrative. Because in English I always thought that it was the same God who created the heaven and the earth as was the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Now I’m not so sure of that at all. I mean if יהוה is Beth and Andrew’s אלהי then that is just a God. It may be The God, or it may be just one of the Gods. Because clearly the God who created the heavens and earth is אלהים and we have just learned that is not a God at all. It’s plural, and masculine and feminine. So it really says that in the beginning the male and female Gods created the heaven and the earth. So maybe יהוה is one of them, or not. Even if He is one of them, there are others. I think this makes it impossible to call the Bible monotheistic because it literally starts out saying multiple male and female Gods created the heaven and the earth. And then it makes so much more sense why יהוה is a jealous God. Because one can’t be jealous unless there is someone equal or greater to be jealous of. No wonder יהוה is so vengeful and insecure, the Gods who created the heavens and earth are likely greater than Him or else, no need to be so jealous and vengeful. But that sure doesn’t sound like an omnipotent, omniscient being at all now, does it? Wow! I just realized that giving praise to יהוה is not praise for the One God, it’s just a lesser god. That sounds like a violation of the first commandment right there if I ever heard of one. It really makes one wonder, who is the God, if not יהוה, which according to the Bible in Hebrew, it is not יהוה then? It would have to be a God much greater than יהוה, if we are to believe what the Bible says. It’s so interesting. Who would have thought that reading the Bible in Hebrew would destroy all credibility of what the churches are teaching? I didn’t expect that but I see no other conclusion to come to about it all. Can somebody tell me if I’m missing something here?
@MichaelB-xi1hk4 күн бұрын
Next thing you know, we are going to find out by reading the Hebrew Bible, that it isn’t possible for Jesus to be the messiah, since there are so many prophecies that the Bible says will be fulfilled before messiah comes THAT STILL HAVE NOT YET EVEN BEEN FULFILLED! Very interesting stuff.
