Love the bike. There’s something special about a bike that’s been well maintained and dialed in over the course of time. Hope to keep my plated XR600R as long as you have the XR650L.

@@joeblow9035 thanks yeah having one dialed in is definitely rewarding rather than dialing in a new one every year. LOL.

Explaining the CV carb requires vacuum to open makes all the sense now.

Good advice. I also added a xr400 oil cooler as it gets hot in Arizona!

Little get off was funny and rare. For these 3 mods i agree on the carb and air filter but not the exhaust. As you said the stock header is perfectly fine and just bling for the FMF. Johhny Campbell or Scott Summer wouldn't and couldn't tell the difference. The muffler is another story in the weight savings and flow to match the new carb & airfilter. That is a must. For a new bike at any rider level the best mod is tires, seat time and clean air.

Id say the same thing I’ll have the 650L till my dying day !!!!! Still running the Fmf performax with the disc end cap I bought in the late 90’s I would also say the smog elimination kit and remove the snorkel on the top of the airbox to help it breathe I ran the Uni for 25 years but seems like the quality went down they deteriorate in a year now so I switched to k&N

I would also say if I could take a bike to the other side of death it would be a 650l 😁

Awesome content fairly new to the channel and have owned 2 of the big girls. I’m 5’10”, just curious about your height and if you have adjusted seat height?
@HeddleTown14 күн бұрын
Thanks I appreciate that.. Im about 5'8 to 5'9 around there. I usually don't mess with the height of my bikes in any way I kinda just deal with it. Can be annoying at times but some skill and good riding usual can make up for it! :)

I agree that the stock suspension is decent enough for anyone that isn't doing hard enduro. It isn't aweful suspension like what you get on a crf300l or dr650 but it isn't MX suspension either. I have yet to do the exhaust and carb. Does the crf450 carb fit right on?
@HeddleTown16 күн бұрын
It fits except the carb to air box boot is a little short as I recall there is a proper adapter I believe!
@adambatchelder412117 күн бұрын
Yep 20 years ago that would have been my starting mods to followed by suspension work. But now days I would just go buy a 500exc that's like 60 pounds lighter and way faster stock

Ya I enjoyed my KTM Six Days dual sport but it defiantly was not a Honda in terms of reliability and having all the new technology is exactly why I sold it! And here were are with one of the worlds most reliable bikes that will 99.9% of the time get me home! 👌

@HeddleTown well in my shop what I've seen in 650 failures is CDI box failure pretty often for whatever reason. They never failed on the other xr s. Than it's cam and rockers usually do to poor maintenance but it always happens if you get enough hard hot miles , than higher rpm will eventually wipe out the small end of the connecting rod. O ya the heads will crack between the spark plug hole and the valve seat to ,

I'm curious about the 2dn and 5th gear thing.. I'm looking at a 2012 and the add says 1000 buck usd motor blew up and the seller hasn't explained what exactly happened it has 12k miles.. just curious if it woth fixing
@HeddleTown17 күн бұрын
@@gabrielkopp2036 I would think it's worth fixing if you can get it for even less maybe. One day they're going to stop making these bikes so you can always have spare parts or sell them!

Hey Mr ‘H’, just finished watching the video…it’s -32 C up here in Edmonton 🥶. Can’t wait till spring! Question re: the crf carb, will any year work?, or are some better than others? Great videos btw, I became a subscriber when I found your riding “tips” Appreciate the time and effort you put in Braaap!
@HeddleTown14 күн бұрын
@@BernieLemke Thanks I really appreciate that and -32 is a tad cold for me to ride yikes! Don't quote me but I think all the 450 carbs are the same maybe some small jetting changes! Mine is from a 2002/03 CRF450 I got it complete with cables and everything which mad it pretty easy! Stay away from the China carb copies. IMHO.
@kellyyon-x7p17 күн бұрын
I think I want that 450CRF carb on my almost stock 650L. How far away is the jetting going to be for a stock 650L? I’m not afraid to do it just considering the amount of Jets needed for the conversion?
@HeddleTown17 күн бұрын
@@kellyyon-x7p I would always check every carb you get but if it's stock jetting the CRF and the 650l jetting is pretty similar. One's a race bike that revs high the other has a bigger piston so they require similar fuel amounts!

@Wow, a source with real usable mechanical information in a sea of U-Tube malarkey. Your info is GREAT! I found that the motocross racers , in the day, that looked/dressed like Bob Hannah on the starting line usually got lapped at my hometown racetracks. I have been very slow at dumping money into this bike because I don’t know what I’m doing (on an expert level) and I can’t figure out which Stickers and sticker placement will make it faster and better for what it is initially designed for. Ha ha ha. I greatly look forward to your next video.
