Love how you're just watching it destroy your plants 😂. We've recently acquired a hedghog in a house we placed a couple of months ago and they're also very welcome to take any bits they want from around the garden so they can be cosy 🥰. Great video!

Really unusual to catch this on video. Great shots good quality video. In a great position where you could observe/video without much disturbance to the animal. Great to watch - well done.

We have hedgehogs in our garden every year here in ireland, we get SO excited when we start seeing them we have over an acre of garden but they come to the back of our house for food, and there's always plenty of thst with the 6 cats and 3 dogs we have! They've been coming for the last 5 years at least we feel VERY lucky to have them!

I've heard that pregnant hedgehogs tend to do this

Looks like a heuchera plant that mummy hog is gathering? If so, some varieties are known as Alum root...pain reliever & highly astringent wound dressing. Used by native Americans (where it originates), to tighten the cervix after childbirth...

Love the video, we have a female in our garden, put a hedgehouse in for her months ago, with hay inside, but she dosent use it, comes out of hiding for her food each evening, eats all that's provided plus fulling up lots of our plants in our garden too, but is good at hiding during the day time difficult to see her because we have lots of ferms in our garden, should I take the hay out of the house or leave it where it is? Thanks Ann ,
@mothballjim5 ай бұрын
@@annoverton6379 maybe take the hay out but leave it near the house so she can use it to line the house if she wants to. She might prefer to find her own sticks instead

I put some barley straw in a house and then left some outside the hedgehog has took it inside and made a massive bed looks like a straw hat all woven solid x

I’m surprised it was picking fresh leaves rather than collecting dried leaves to line it’s nest!
@fellow70913 жыл бұрын
She knows the leaves will become dry and they are fresh for longer even as dried.

5 hedgehogs keep visiting my yard. 2 babys 3 adults. I buit a home for them but looks like any of the visitors havent yet moved in. wonder if i should move it to a different spot with more cover. Also building another home atm
@mothballjim4 жыл бұрын
Yeah it does need to be in a quiet part of the garden with lots of cover
@Aprikuusi20034 жыл бұрын
@@mothballjim yeah. It is next to a bush. I think i should maybe rotate it to face the bush so they can enter it while staying in cover

how'd this go in the end mate? just found a big girl building a nest in my garden, although she picked a little border in the front yard so not the smartest spot!
@mothballjim3 жыл бұрын
It went well, she built a nest and even hibernated there too

awesome video my friend I’ve just realised watching it the second time that you have a chamber there already which is fantastic maybe put some hay or straw nearby or dry leaves as wet vegetation will obviously rot down and may cause problems. also you’re likely to come out tomorrow and have no leaves on any of your plants LOL
@Calastein4 жыл бұрын
seriously....not sure you realise just how lucky and special this footage is mate. So rare to see and fascinating. Tweet Chris Packham, he’ll love this!
@mothballjim4 жыл бұрын
I thought you would like the video mate. I actually had hedgehogs use the same house to hibernate in last year so it’s already full of straw from when I filled it the following year, wish I would of put cameras in it when I first set it up!

I did tweet him when I first uploaded it but he hasn’t replied yet, I guess he must get lots of people sending him things to watch so hard to go through them all. Try and send it to him as well and hopefully it will catch his eye if 2 people have sent him it 🤞🏻

@@mothballjim I noticed you have a lovely pond and I was wondering if you have a few ramps just in case your hedgehogs fall in when moving around your garden, If your hedgehog falls in it can swim well but if it can't find a sloping side to your pond or a ramp that goes into and under the surface of your pond to allow it to climb out it would soon get tired and drown if it couldn't climb out and I know you would be devastated. So lovely video and I just thought of that as an issue whilst watching cheers, I am sure you have made your pond safe for them and it's a while since you uploaded this video, I am also lucky to have a hedgehog in my garden too :D

Hedgehogs are nocturnal and should never be out in the middle of the day - usually a sign of serious illness. This can include lots of hog activity.
