Ich habe zwar keine Ahnung was gesungen wurde, aber es fühlte sich richtig und gut an. Besonders als die Männer auch zu lächeln begannen, einer nach dem anderen. Quelle Chance d avoir reçu un Don aussi beau que sa voix pour temoigner tout son amour à cette belle region qui est un peu comme un pays dans le pays , mais dont on entend plus vraiment parler ... à mon grand etonnement .. où sont passes les Hommes de notre pays , pour moi les Basques et les Corses etaient leur incarnation mais il semblerait que tous aient été acheté? This stirs pride in my Basque ancestry (even if the last fully Basque ancestor was a 1752 emigrant to Quebec!), both the culture and the landscape. I am also a sedimentary geologist, and so I recognize the ancient turbidites that mark this coast. Beautiful staging and presentation of this song! Thank you!

I am an American and one of my paternal ancestral family names is Elizondo. I know that it is a Basque name. My maternal great grandmother was French but I believe she originated in a Basque region right across the border between France and Spain. Can someone explain the difference? Thanks

Hi, basque Land has one part in France and one in spain. People speak basque language which IS very specific. Years ago spanish basque region fight against spain government because they wanted to be a country out if spain. Lot of people have been killed in that War.

@@sylvienicolas2463 : Thanks for your response. So, if I understand you correctly, the "French" Basques do speak the same language as the "Spanish" Basques even though they identify as French. Also, they did not revolt against France to separate like the Spanish Basques did against Spain. Interesting. I saw an excellent film about this here in the USA on a Public Television Station about two years ago but can't remember the name. It must have had English sub titles or I would not have understood a word. Thanks again. Do you say Un Abrazo Fuerte in Basque as the Spanish do?

French side Basque people belong to the Pyrinees Athlantic French Department , all of them speak French but just few speak euskera ( basque language). France doesnt support the learning of euskera at school. Spanish Basque people conforms a unique

On the other hand, the Spanish Basque people make up a special part of the Spanish state with their own institurions, inxluding their own Treasury. The Basque Government also enxourages the use of euskers and provides financial support for the teaching of the language in school. 70 per cent speak basque quite fluently but only 13 per cent of Basque Spaniards speak more Basque than Spanish. In France the situation is worse and it is said that the euskera is dying there whereas in Spain the trend is to grow over time.

The lyrics of the song are about the irony of wanting to keep a bird, we cut off its wings. Since it cannot fly, it is no longer a bird, when what we wanted was a bird. Classic themes in Basque songs, freedom and identity.

This is a song by Mikel Laboa released in 1974. You can watch it you tube. He is IMHO one of the greats of Basque song....very original , a real artist.

Whoever cut this clip should be punished It hurts the eyes! This is no action-film! So sad. The music is beautiful. The landscape is overwhelmingly beautiful. The faces are interesting. And all you see is a stroboscopelike sequence of clipsicles. 😢
