When an establishment post such a sign, it should be construed as taking over the responsibility to provide protection for its customers. In the event of a mass shooting, the customers who were deprived of the right to protect themselves should be able to sue the proprietor of the establishment.

A local Sprouts Farmers Market also posted such a sign at the entrance to their establishment. In Florida, these signs don't mean squat and unless you're printing and making it obvious that you're conceal carrying, they can't do anything about it. If they do make out that you're carrying in their establishment, the most that they can do is ask you to leave or trespass you. In my state, “NO FIREARMS ALLOWED” signs that meet specific requirements are enforceable as a Class B misdemeanor carrying a fine of $500. What I do when I see such a sign, very simply, is open the door, get the attention of an employee, and ask to see the owner or manager. If that person elects to respond, I tell him or her, quite calmly, that I am aware of his or her authority under state law to prohibit my gun, but that while I was planning to spend a lot of money in this establishment, I have elected to go to a 2A-friendly competitor instead.

Yes, any public gun free area is unconstitutional, but most places that have those signs are private places. As a private place, the tax paying owner should have the right to say what can and can't be done in their property. If they don't like it, they have the right to ask you to leave, and if you don't, you can be tresspassed. If you don't like the policy, take your patronage elsewhere. Also, as far as stores are concerned, such as a mall, every entrance must be marked with a appropriate sign. If 1 Entrance doesn't have the sign you can say that's the entrance you came in and saw no sign. However I do agree with you about the printing. If you conceal carry good enough, NO ONE will know. Just don't bring a "Jackass" in with you that's going to tell people hey, he's carrying concealed here, is that OK ? Or when you're walking around they look at you and blurt out, hey, you're carrying concealed right now, aren't you ? It's always someone you're with that gets you into trouble. Especially kids. Hey Daddy, do you have your gun on you in here ? Or something like that. Be Careful.

The 1000 foot bubble around schools is almost impossible to avoid in some places. Those zones overlap a lot. As you said, it’s okay on private property. But if you park on the street at your friend’s house, you’re on public property until you cross his property line. However, having a State-issued permit or license to carry is also an exception. You still can’t go onto school property, but you can be on public property inside the 1000 ft. zone.

Basically, there are 2 types of private properties that post “no firearms” signs: (1) those that post signs and actually secure their premises by screening people upon entry, and (2) those that post signs and do nothing to screen people upon entry. I have much less issues with #1, since these establishments are taking some ownership in ensuring that people comply with their policies. Unfortunately, very few private properties actually do this. In the past few years, the only places I visited that did this were airports, government locations and Disneyworld. Private places that post “gun free” signs but do nothing to enforce them are, in my opinion, naive and misguided, since they are just making their places less safe by prohibiting law abiding people from carrying ( or forcing them to possibly place themselves in legal peril). However, until laws change, there isn’t much to be done about it.

The simplest way to put it is, "Law over policy". If you know where you can legally carry in your state then you're good to go. I live in Utah, which is a top tier, pro 2A state. Essentially, the only places where it's illegal to carry are government buildings such as a post office, and LDS church buildings. Which means if I want to carry in a school, movie theater, college campus, or literally anywhere else, I can. If there is a "No firearms allowed" sign posted say, at a movie theater, that is the theaters POLICY. However, the LAW says yes I can carry in the theater, RESPONSIBLY. So if I carry in the theater and I have to use my firearm or someone happens to catch a glimpse of it because my shirt lifts up, the theater can ask me to leave or put my firearm in my car, but they can't take any legal action against me (as long as I'm being responsible). You have to still be smart and sensible. If the theater saw my CCW and asked me to go put it in my car, I would. I'm not going to make a big deal about it and try to make a viral video over it even though the law is on my side.

About the work situation I think a lot of times it's completely ridiculous to say you can't carry a firearm while working. Like pizza delivery guys, that's actually a really dangerous job. You're going to people's homes that you don't know, you're meeting people at places other than their house and you are dealing with a lot of people who are drinking or on drugs. I deliver pizzas part-time on the weekends and where I do this is in a small town it doesn't have a really high crime rate but we do have our share of violent crime, mostly because of people who are drinking or people who are on methamphetamines. There are several places where we have to go meet people that are closed businesses, there's not good lighting, there is usually no one around, and a lot of times you have no idea who you're meeting. Like if it's a cash order you don't know if they gave their correct name and phone number and even if it's being paid for by credit card you have no idea if it's actually their credit card or if they've stolen someone else. So in my opinion it's extremely dangerous situations that normally I wouldn't put myself in but I'm raising four children on my own so I have to have the extra money. Anyway sorry for rambling but my point is, we are allowed to carry our firearms in our vehicle because it's our own private property, but not allowed to carry it on us. Which I think is ridiculous. If we are out of our vehicle and away from it a gun in our vehicle isn't going to do us any good

As a retired lawyer , and a disrupter of idiotic laws ( remember who sponsored it in the senate ) I would tell the business owner that I will comply with your sign as long as you sign this agreement on a card I hand you . The agreement would state that should a n armed criminal enter here and shoot the place up you the owner take full responsibility for any injuries i or my family may suffer as a result of your requirement that contrary to my 2 A rights I could not defend myself or others . The school law of course actually invites violence, and given the level of violence and sexual exploitation against children in this country one might question the motives of the cesspool dwellers in DC intended as to consequences of their laws . Just saying . The school rule should be obeyed but challenged in court or in your legislature. How many business owners will sign my card ? What do you all think ?

I ignore these signs. I go nowhere unarmed unless somewhere that is against the law such as a courtroom. They will never know I have it, unless I need it, in which case it won't matter.

I have accidentally carried everywhere and believe me, it was not intentional. Even in the PO, which is a Federal felony, I don't even think of my weapon, it's home is on my person. Enough said.

Is Pennsylvania those signs are not recognized unless prescribed by the rules off CCW. Those places are the typical courthouses, schools, and government properties. If you are seen carrying a firearm in those places, they can ask you to leave, and if you don't leave, they can trespass you.

Living in Texas we have 30.05, 30.06 and 30.07 signs that are to be posted with very specific instructions. Signs like you showed are not legal here and do not need to be followed. However, you can still be removed for trespass at the owner's discretion.

I just started back at the gum a couple months back an man o man did I feel like a sitting duck in there at first *gun free zones *lots of people gathered in a small area *only one exit to retreat if some shit went down. Prime target without a doubt, finally I said F it and started putting my carry gun in a small backpack and bringing it in with me. I'll be damned if I get shot full of holes because of a gap ass sign and ideology.

there is a huge diff between policy and law. stores do not make law but can make policies. as a private establishment you "have" to follow their rules close enough to appease them for continued service. as it is the establishments right to deny you service/access to their facilities and services for any reason within the confines of the written laws that govern the local lands it resides on. that being said once asked to leave if you do not do so you will be legally trespassed from the property by law enforcement if u refuse to leave after the law tell you to go then you will be charged. an employee of the establishment in the store has to physically/verbally in person tell you to leave. it would greatly benefit you to audio/video record everything and ask them to repeat what they said before the recording started. without evidence everything is hearsay and you are going to be outnumbered in this situation. save this for as long as the statute of limitations on the situation can possibly last.

I also live in SC. If a business has such a sign I don’t do business there. As a doctor who works in hospitals, it bothers me that I can’t carry at work without the express permission of the CEO. As far as schools, I like how Idaho does it. There are signs warning that staff members are armed. The school rule is reminiscent of the blue states. How idiotic. Gun free zones are the most dangerous.

In Tennessee the sign must show the penal code “As Authorized by T.C.A. § 39-17-1359.” So, I guess that means these homemade and Amazon generic signs aren't valid.

The rules on the sign posting changed when SC started with the new open carry law now it just has to be posted on every entrance it no longer has all the size regulations. In schools if you have a permit in sc you can have a gun in your car on school property but cannot take it in the school

I believe here in NH if you are open to the public then such signs are unenforceable. Now at places like Costco and Sam's club it is enforceable as they are technically not open to the public they are a members only facility. I had a mall call the cops on me about 20 years ago because I was carrying ( it was raining out I was using a shoulder holster when I got inside I went to the bathroom and rang out my overshirt and a guard walked in). Cops detained me, I called a sheriff friend and he came by and professionally and politely told the city cops what was up. Signs are still up but nobody enforces it at all.

I get it , if you’re sneaky enough it’ll be no harm no foul. It brings to light your honor being questionable at best. In Iowa they’re supposed to have a guard & a lockbox at the front door to go along with the sticker or you kaan be respectful of wherever you’re visiting. If it means that much to you just adjust your behavior to not go to places you disagree with, besides paying my water bill it’s working great for me. It’s tougher to do & inconvenient but my honor stays in tact

The one thing about the constitution is that it leaves states to make laws, so if a state sets gun laws, then thise are the laws to abide by. Example, we don't licenses to travel, but we all have one, yet not all of us drive, we travel.

Love the advise. I live in a small town in Illinois and my old highschool surprisingly was one of the first schools in Illinois to certify a couple of our teachers to carry in class as long as it's kept in a lock box or finger print security box in the desk drawer. Granted those couple of teachers are retired military

Those signs make the general public feel safe. If you ever worked at a job such as retail or sales, you know most of the general public is stupid. They are more like guidlines anyway. In my (free) state, if I break that rule, I'm simply tresspassing. Better to be judged by 12 of your peers, than carried by 6.

The state I live in those signs don’t carry any weight. All they can do is ask you to leave or put it away and if you don’t then they can have you trespassed by law enforcement but even then there’s no trespassing with a firearm charge in my state like other states. My state also allows carrying in bars and even drinking while carrying I know some states don’t but where other states allow you to pick up kids or be in a school parking lot with a locked up firearm my state strictly forbids any firearms anywhere on school premises

I understand why some people think we need armed guards in schools to protect kids from shooters. But on the opposite part of the spectrum if we do bring armed guards into schools, What's to stop the armed guards from going crazy & taking out children without any real just reason for such an action.
