Working as a "data scientist" I am crushed by this on a daily basis. Your point about information being a negative signifier is spot-on. We are living in the time of madmen. Han, drawing on Heidegger, treats these issues quite well in "The Agony of Eros" and "In the Swarm", particularly with his notion of the "Inferno of the Same".

That was wonderful, and it often seems like we think data “solves” the problem of language, when really it just tries to “escape” and/or “run from it.” This seems like a solution, for the problem falls out of sight, but it’s not the case that what we don’t look at ceases to exist-the is a game from childhood that we seem to still be playing. To use language is to risk confusing Being with being(s), but language also seems necessary in the quest to experiencing Being disclosing itself as Being. This is what the poet tries to address, but unfortunately we live in an age that assumes “the real” is that which can be numerically represented versus poetically expressed. This is a costly mistake.

I imagine Derrida drew much from Heidegger’s concept of language - Derrida proposed philosophy as a mode of literature as opposed to a scientific mode of data which signifies a real

"is" implies a certainty ... highly problematic / really fascinated lately about how language is a new development in humans and how our real thinking is instantaneous and sub-language, and how words struggle greatly to capture our thoughts, and in most of our activities language is not even used, but only actions based on non-language thoughts. language permits us greater engagement with each other, but can easily deceive the gullible fools that we are into profoundly false beliefs

Language is dangerous because words qua words are empty of meaning. Only concepts have meaning. Words are tags or labels (not representations) for concepts.

no, this is not quite how it is -- this is where saussure makes his fateful mistake. words are not referents of concepts. the meaning of words is their use.

@@Dystisis whatever it is, it is the point that humans are narrative creatures, language is vague, but people crave for certainty ... 'truth', 'invisible hand', 'patriots' - any simple empty concepts that allow people to stop thinking
