Nehalennia The day is over The fog is lifting The harbor disappears from sight We are travelling to places Heretofore unseen The journey and our fate unknown Searching for battle Women and grog Searching for eternal glory Honor to the women of life and death Protect us on the open sea FORWARD! Over the seas FORWARD! Nehalennia The sails are billowing In a sou'westerly wind The horizon is our goal No tide is too strong Or waves too high Defying the biggest storm A sacrifice made On the Zeeland shore At the altar of the goddess Bringer of wealth Trade and light Show us your favor Far from land Over the sea In the red evening light The northern star Shows the way Towards our fate

I think I need to add Dutch to the languages I need to learn. Can understand about 50%, but it's strange. A blend of German and Scandinavian in many aspects; De reis ons en lot onbekend; reisens lott er ukjent, the voyage's Lot (Lot is the fate according to the spinners) is unknown, but Lott can also just mean Fate; the word disconnected from the gods after Christianity). The word is used in English too, but have distanced from what it was; Your lot; would not be your fate, but your kind, although one can see a similar'ish origin perhaps. The world was connected back then; there is no chance that the Viking raids began in France after Charlemagne's empire was in decline, they knew very well what the political situation was in both France and Europe. After all, some of the earliest maps we have mark cities from all over Europe and Asia.

Or "Dat hest bie et goie ent". See the similarity's? My Dialect is actually not a Dutch dialect, but together with Frisian, it makes up the Ost-Fries Dialect, spoken in Germany, which the Scandinavian languages get their roots from. Thats why a lot of dutch people can follow Swedish en Danish conversations. :-)

Nice to see more folk metal that is actually sung rather then growled - so much more authentic! I'm incredibly picky when it comes to growling (perfect growler is - imho - Vreth from Finntroll), and though I love a good growler, I dislike when someone has an amazing singing voice and growls rather poorly instead. So +1 for viking metal with authentic voices. :)
