I bought a cajón a few months ago. So I am an absolute beginner, I appreciate teachers such as you who post incredible lessons for someone like me who wants to learn how to play this beautiful instrument.

Nice work - Like that you count the rhythm throughout the lesson. That really helps people learn how the pattern is shaped over the pulse.

Hello Heidi! A great lesson!! My question is that I can't see how you are holding your fingers to coil them to be prepared for the release.....can you either describe that position or do a photo of it or something? THANKS! Also is there in the works a video to help with the more traditional finger rolls that I see you making when you play? Or is it perhaps within one of your currently posted videos? THANKS!!

Great lesson! This just taught me how to play one of the fanciest looking little tricks :D Hardest for me was getting the single accent on the 4 in a roll with the fingers... Thanks!
@hawkrider8810 жыл бұрын
One more thing if I may...does it really make any difference if you were start the roll with your index finger, middle, ring....as opposed to the way you are doing it? For some reason that seems more natural to me but I don't want to start a bad habit.

Sounds amazing. Looked like a really simple but effective trick... just tried it at my desk while watching when you said try on a flat surface... Not easy at all! Turns out I don't have much co-ordination in my middle or ring finger haha. Great technique though and one I will be practicing a lot until it become second nature. Thanks

I'm considering buying the Pro Elite model. Does it get enough of a snare sound, considering you use guitar strings, as opposed to snare wires?? I don't want something too dry and slappy sounding.

what brand cajon box good using for new guy?
@hawkrider8810 жыл бұрын
Hedi, Is this easier with a bit longer nails as opposed to shorter nails like a guy would have? I am finding I have to bend my fingers quite a bit to get my nails to hit the surface?
@HeidiJoubert10 жыл бұрын
Hey! I think it;s a bit easier with a little bit of length on your nails, although you don't need long nails to do this, it will just give you more sound to have a bit more nail! :-)
@mark-dev-110 жыл бұрын

Great Tutorial. Do you practice with both hands, or do you just stick with the dominant hand since it's only used occasionally. Also. I notice in your January post on your website that you are working on a cajon course (cajonbox.com/heidi-jouberts-step-step-cajon-video-method-lessons-will-soon/). When do yo plan to release it? Thanks, Sam.
@HeidiJoubert6 жыл бұрын
Maaaate! I should practise both hands but mostly just use it on my strong hand as I don’t use it that much! New Cajon course is huge and is still being edited, but you will defo know when it gets released, should be out fully by Christmas

Great Heidi! I was already doing this technic before watching your video and before receiving my beautiful Cruz Cajón Elite Pro Toro model and then, I've found your video. For me, and I prefer doing it like that, it's seems more easy to do the fingers roll starting with the index and not finishing by it but your video was still helpfull. Thanks. :-) Btw, I show it to my fg and she find it more easy to roll her fingers like you do, finishing by the index. Perhaps it's a woman thing. ;-) Hey guys (girls or guys), what do you prefer if you tried? It would be interesting to know. :-)
@hypnotourist10 жыл бұрын
Most of the rolls i do on hand drums are movements from outside to inside, from open hand to close hand if you see what i mean, and they are from pinkie to index. This fingenails roll is inverted regarding to my "classic rolls", it is moving from inside to outside, in an opening hand movement. So for me it feels quite natural to do it with the inverse finger order also. From index to pinkie. Both way could be possible, but personally, it would require some training that would not be necessary if i just used the inverse of what my hand is already trained for. :-)
