Himmler is the perfect example of why when studying history you must always think critically of a piece of information. If you were unaware of his past actions, and were given extracts of his memoirs, you would assume he was not a bad guy, and was forced to do what he did. But in context you would know that he wrote his memoirs while rotting in a cell waiting to be judged, he was just trying to escape his inevitable judgement

I think his statement was accurate though. Himlar most likely would have been negotiating with Ike, if this had taken place. While FDR was still president, he died shortly after the war with the Nazis ended. He was also in declining health and mostly bed ridden during this time.

I have a huge compliment for you: Having a voracious appetite for world history, I find that so often it takes FOREVER for the makers of documentaries to get to the point and weave the story of whatever the subject is they are covering. You get to the point and speak at a pace that is clear and easy to listen to, but also disseminates a great deal of information in an efficient way without wasting the time of the viewers with unnecessary dramatic pauses and long gaps of information while pictures are displayed for far longer than is needed. I also love that you don’t seem to think the viewers need to have 40,000 reminders of what you’ve just spoken about , which again holds up the narrative far too long. Watching broadcast network tv documentaries can be horribly painful as they spend more time recapping what’s happened prior to the commercial break and giving previews of what’s to come after the commercial break than actually providing the narrative the viewer is there to see and learn about. You repeat what feels necessary to repeat but always keep the narrative moving without wasting the time of your viewers. A++++ on that! When I come to KZbin to gain knowledge and perspective about some piece of history, I’m forever aggravated when it takes up huge chunks of time with fancy video transitions and ridiculously long spans of time between one solid good piece of information and the next one, so I’m always happy when a KZbin search about something brings up a content creator like yourself who gets right to the point and keeps it all rolling along efficiently! I hope some network gives you a show of your own because it would be incredibly interesting to watch you on location actually rolling through a narrative that is compelling and not filled with manufactured drama. Let’s face it, so many pieces of history, especially during the WWII period, are already sufficiently dramatic on their own. And there are SO many conflicting reports of the facts of this period, that anyone with an interest in history is smart to go to multiple sources to get a clearer picture of what most likely occurred. That is made much easier when a video rolls along and doesn’t waste the time of the viewers. You seem to get that and this viewer is greatly appreciative of that! Bravo!

A bit of trivia: Himmler (like Hitler) was mobile and visited the Eastern Front a few times. On one occassion he visited an Einzatsgruppen unit who were executing"partisans" and the men aware of Himmler's retoric pushed a gun into his hand and asked him to kill a few himself. Under peer pressure he shot a prisoner and then virtually collapsed. Himmler was lethal only at the other end of his secretaries typewriter or telex machine.

"well he is not that smart then. I mean, im a average joe and i knew that he wasnt the president." www.history.com/topics/us-presidents/dwight-d-eisenhower Specifically 34th president, a significant cold war president that implemented high-pressure strategies against the Soviet Union. He just wasn't the president at the time. Thus, easy enough slip of the tongue. Almost more a grammatical mistake than a historical one, he was significant in both roles. However, I believe Himmler *did* suggest meeting directly with *general* Eisenhower. Why he thought Eisenhower would not be overridden is hard to say though. Stupid move on Himmler's part. aaand he actually made that mistake multiple times. Nevermind.

"The most monstrous betrayal in history yet ..." Lord bless us they had SUCH a high opinion of themselves, didn't they? Poor Himmler he had not a single redeeming feature; he was thoroughly unattractive to look at; he threw up when the brains of some poor, innocent victim of his savagery splashed on his uniform; he was given a command, eventually, towards the end of the war and failed miserably and then, in order to save his miserable skin, he betrayed his 'beloved' Fuhrer. WHAT a loser and what a crackpot. He didn't even succeed as a chicken farmer - what a legacy to carry through history!

Just throwing it out there. Bernadotte is a french name and the E at the end is silent. The german admiral's name is Karl Dönitz, not Donitz.

It’s crazy to think this was all less than a century ago, for real. Seems totally dystopian having been born in the 90’s...

Very interesting narration. You speak at the proper pace--not ploddingly, as is common amongst YT historical narrators--and with a very appealing accent. Bravo and encore! x

Hey, Eisenhower wasn't president until 1952. He was the supreme allied commander of the European Campaign.

Laughing Gravy So you'd say that the story of Mengele - the butcher of Auschwitz - is a happy story? Just because he died in the end? smh

"Greatest betrayal"??? Piss on that stupid clickbait title. His betrayal had no practical effect on the course of the war.

Ob Fuscated He should have put it in quotation marks. This guy is just a pretty mindless political observer, who always goes for "it's because free markets", and here he clearly just read a Wikipedia page or something. He didn't even notice that Eisenhower wasn't the President during WWII

Alain Archambault That quote has never been verified and probably never will as all the participants and witnesses are dead. One thing is abundantly clear; Himmler was loyal to the National Socialist ideology for the majority of his life. This video attempts to judge him on one statement made by Hitler during a catastrophic event. Judge him on the totality of his efforts goddamn it!

Göbbels was loyal, but hardly number two in Nazi hierarchy. Göring and Himmler were clearly higher, as was von Ribbentrop.

I would love to have another biography for: Reinhard Heydrich, Ernst Röhm, Herman Göring, Joseph Goebbels, Karl Dönitz, Ernst Kaltenbrunner, Joachim von Ribbentrop, Rudolf Heß, Rudolf Höß (yes that are 2 people), Albert Speer, Adolf Eichmann. Your videos are so good

I'd really like to know why Rudolf Höß said 3,5 million people died at Auschwitz since that number is pretty much a fairy tale these days.

Well the official death toll according to the Jewish Holocaust Museum is about 1.1 million so Höß was of by quite a bit.
