My father spoke of Schlusnus's impeccable diction. This is my first introduction to the singer with this timeless song by Schubert and it is striking and awe-inspiring. The three voices in this remarkable lieder is done with such precision and passion. What a great singer! And the pianist, too, is remarkable.

I am (almost) sure that there is a version of Der Erlkönig sung by Wunderlich, but it does not seem to have made it into KZbin. Or did it? Anyway, this Schlusnus version is a pretty good substitute.

First of all Erlkonig is translated as Elf King, second you dont know if the child is halucinating the elf king or if the elf king is there. They are riding through the forest on horseback.

You know I don't think so....I think his technique although excellent had him singing a few cents flat consistently. A little like Lisa Della Casa. PS: Have u ever heard Tibbett sing this piece in English. I've heard it's tremendous !

Who is the poor pianist - Raucheisen? Not that the playing is poor - far from it - but anyone who has to record Erlkoenig in one take has my sympathy!
