As a music student, the reason why I like the slowed version is because it drags. Like, in the sense that each note sounds like it's being played by an exhausted musician, and there's that underlying that it could all stop but the music keeps playing. It really sort of emphasises how tired the kids are at this point, really struggling to keep fighting with the little bit of strength that they have left.

I too being once a music student, I agree with what you said. Especially how you stated that the slowness kinda puts on emphasis and has a tired like feel that represents how the kids are in Homestuck. The nonstop battles between all the different foes they are having to face together and such.

Two brothers and a dragon warrior face off against demons. The vampire, the boy of blue, the seer, and the enchantress battle a Queen. A page defeats an army of twelve, with help from others. Two ring-bearers clash, as the goddess intervenes. A banished muse makes her return, ready for the last day of the war. The final battle begins. The eldritch gods prepare for the End. The Heir of Grief begins to play his keys.

@empdisaster10 Жыл бұрын
Listening to this years after homestuck ended, i come to the realization of why people think this sounds sad. Its less about the actual music being sad, and its more of what the song represents, which is the end of a section of a lot of peoples lives where homestuck was continuing. Truth be told, most people got into homestuck at about 13-15, the age the kids were when homestuck started and when it ended years after we aged and grew up. People who stuck with the comic from start till end grew up with it and a lot of it signals back to peoples childhoods. The song itself isnt sad, and even when slowed its more epic than sad. Its the memories that are sad and typically slower songs have a stronger sense of nostalgia to them, which is why a very powerful and emotional song like this that means so much, has such an impact on people who grew up with homestuck as apart of their lives

if there's an instrument to give Dave, it's probably the drums. Not just because in his version of the music minigame from early in the comic you get to mess with some drum loop beats, but because of the simple fact of the function of drums in music; they keep Time.

Collide au where all that's left is John Egbert. All his friends, human or not, are all dead. He stands there with his trusty hammer, facing the Condense, Jack Noir, Lord English, and Spades. Tears are in his eyes as he charges them, determined for when. If nor for his own life, but to make sure that they all didn't die in vain. This is the song that plays as the battle progresses, and John becomes more hopeless.

Playing this in the background in an RPG game where Humans are the most technologically advanced and outnumber Elves, Dwarves, Orcs, Trolls, Necros, Nekos, and Lizardlings. My character coming to the revelation that with advanced tech and great numbers comes expansion. Her goal is to unite the other races and slow the Human War Machine before the other races are eradicated, but ultimately, the plan is doomed to fail and humanity is to take over the Earth, spelling out the timeline we all live in. In all fairness though, she is, because of morals and because its' the right thing to do, slowing technology's advancement and overall development so the others can live.
