Hello HeirofCarthage, if you dont happen to read this oh well, but if you do fantastic You are my favorite KZbinr as far as Total War games go. Your Saga Campaign and Eastern Roman Campaign are my favorite, i check everyday to see if you posted an episode of either one. And This Campaign is growing on me quite quickly as a matter of fact. When i saw the gameplay for Shogun 2: Fall of The Samurai (before you) i was on the fence about it, but watching you play it and crush your enemies has "inspired" me to buy the game and play it, and im in love with it. A quick tip when using hoplite units in DEI; when attacking or defending always use hoplite phalanx - attack bonus, charge bonus & defence bonus as well I think. The only time when you should not use it is when you are marching or when you want to move them around the battlefield quickly, because they move slower in phalanx mode.

Heir when a unit is wavering and refuses to break like the noble fighters, select all the units that are fighting that unit and click another attack order on the wavering unit. I learnt that from you! Makes a difference on Rome II for some reason

The Joker Same applies to the wavering trarii and how the pikes kept moving forward from attack orders. I love the DEI Carthaginian units. Pikemen + hoplites/swords + plenty of missiles and quality cav = my favourite kind of army

The Joker My favorite set up for a Carthaginian Army is 5 White Shield Pikemen or Carthaginian Pikemen, 2 Liby-Phoenician Hoplites, 2 Goidillic Berserkers, 2 Baleric Slingers, 2 Iberian Skirmishers, 2 Carthaginian Noble Calvary, 2 Tarantine Calvary, an Elephant and a Balista. The Pikes for the main line, the Hoplites for protecting my pikes flanks the berserkers double up as protecting flanks and attacking the rear. The Balerics are for killing their skirmishers early on and can do some rear fire, Iberians Skirmishers are for rear shots as they cut through enemies with 31 damage, The Tarantines are skirmisher killers and double up for rear fire and rear charges, the Noble Calvary are for rear charges, and the Elephants are for killing an Isolated heavy unit and for charging into a militia blob. The Balista whilst not getting many kills is for taking down walls and shooting at them if they hill or capture point camp.

The only problem I have with the faster battles submod is that it makes cav really OP because of the slow killrate of infantry. Please bear that in mind Heir and don't exploit it :P Just so we can have a more fun playthrough

Heir some tips: Do not charge Calvary into a heavy unit without softening them up with missiles or you will get quite a bit of casualties, also berserk elephants can kill your own troops. Brudhism gives you White-Shield Pikemen and Tarantine Calvary which are both very good units as White-Shield Pikemen are better than any pike you have in your roster, and Tarantine Calvary are a medium Calvary with lots of Javelins for softening up . Also there is a DEI sub-mod that drastically increases the BAI in the Workshop it is called :Increased Spotting Distances for a More Tactical BAI, I suggest you get this mod as the the AI will actually put up a fight and is closer to what a human would do.

Hey heir, they just released 1.05 for this mod! Go to the forum or steam and get it, they fixed a bug with Carthage garrison, as well as lots of new units for other factions and 2 new factions.

One time, I was playing Empire: Total War. I hosted a battle and said, max of two artillery. My opponent brought... twelve cannons, I think. ...and a row of skirmishers. The skirmishers (which I didn't initially see) killed off all my cavalry, so I melee charged my entire infantry line at him. Moments before my infantry hit his lines, he quit.

Geth You need that Imperium and the tech but if you are in Polybian you will have that tech.

David Jones Sorry but you mean battle vs. AI or Avatar Conquest battle? Cause when vs. AI in mid-late game it's pretty simple, just spam end-game units like the Guard Infantry, Foreign Infantry, some Cannons and a couple of missile cavs then you can win most of the battle.

The Hastati and Prinicipes fought with spears before the roman conquests in Iberia. Edit: From Wikipedia: "Hastati (singular: Hastatus) were a class of infantry in the armies of the early Roman Republic who originally fought as spearmen, and later as swordsmen."

^Rome initially used to use phalanx system but then they switched to the maniple system where hastati and princ. used swords and triarii were the veterans left over from the older period who continued to use spears and this tradition of triarii using spears contd. till the legion system over hauled that old unit system.

Sam S Hannibal Barca was born in 247 BC. The Hannibal and Mago in Rome 2 start with are in 272 BC. They aren't the Barcids, but rather, representative of Carthaginian officers of the First Punic War. The Carthaginian naming pool was rather limited and the concept of last or family names did not exist. There were dozens of prominent Carthaginians named Hannibal alone,. The only reason Historians distinguish the Barca family is because of the Greek nickname that was given to Hamilcar from his time fighting the Romans.

You should try a campaign with one of these Iberian factions. Im not sure if their units simply melt in the face of yours because Carthage's troops are better or the usual stupidity of the AI. The latter probably

Sam C It is because the AI has very low detection of unit range so even if they can see your army they don't act upon it and cluster themselves up as they can't see that you have an entire line they can attack, although civilized factions tend to have better troops but often a much higher upkeep.

Sure but the Spanish troops just don't do any damage against hoplites. Even the Romans didnt do much. I think if the difficulty was turned up a bit and he lost some more troops the battles would be closer and more fun. At the moment there's no chance of him losing an equal battle because the ai is so atrociously dumb. They unfortunately need some extra compensation for their stupidity.

That is because he tends to break them before they can get many kills, also Libyan Hoplites on phalanx get about 117 melee defense, so they are an excellent holding force.

Civilized units are tanky and are higher quality but they are more expensive, but yes Libyan Hoplites are very cost effective.

Heir, you're 40x the twrii player I am... but I've noticed something consistent in your battles. Around 35 minutes in, your near flank pikeman are a lost cause... but you have all those hoplites kind of away from the line fighting the triarii. You still have a secure flank down there and still have cav superiority, yet you get tunnel vision and sucked in on it. Those pikeman were done no matter what but you had like 4 healthy regiments standing at the top of the screen picking their buttholes. Why not start using them to crash the opposite flank quickly and roll it down on top of all the principes working their way up your near flank. Your hoplites woukd roll the triarii eventually and you still own their rears... I feel like you would have lost less men. Now I'm writing rhis mid fight and you probably do what I just explained eventually, I've just noticed you doing it alotover the years and wanted to address it.
