Last battle numbers couldn't overcome quality...we get another battle like that today, but which will win this time? Quality or Quantity?

this Egyptian army is very well tailored against Lusitania or suebi - but was spread along the map too much and lost his inferior cavalry too quickly. also for some reason he accepted a melee btw the spears and Iberian swords, which was devastating.

Heir the big difference between Rhodians and Balearics is Rhodians have 5 more block chance 5 more health and 10 more morale but cost slightly more. I believe Rhodians are 30 or 40 more but can't remember off the top of my head. Also, your Pila comment is sort of true. Some say the Romans got is from combining the Soliferrum with the Sabine Javelin (Samnite javelin from Sabina region), though this seems to be an oversimplification. It looks like the Romans made an early Pilum based on the Sabine Javelin and/or other Italic or Etruscan throwing weapons. Then later they made changes and split into heavy and light Pilum designs after being exposed to either the Iberian Soliferrum or Falarica. Falarica actually looks more like a Pilum (at least to me) but that may just be coincident as its design the long Iron shank was for safely attaching combustible material to the weapon not piercing shields or gaps in armor.

That was a good victory for the Lusitani. Choosing elite units over numbers is always a risk and it didn't pay off for the Egyptian army this time. Hotel Soap did a good job using the Lusitani's strengths to win the battle. Good battle. GG to both players.

Formation attack is good if you want your unit to be defensive and last longer, loose formation is good for offense

The Roman republic took a lot of weapon designs from Iberian tribes and improved on them. Yes it’s possible the pila is a derivative from the soli ferum and ofc the gladius hispanies came from Iberia

This is my first time noticing that the Rhodian slingers have 5 more health than the Baeleric slingers

What would be REALLY interesting ....though I admit maybe not good gameplay....is if they modeled how ancient battles were REALLY fought. And honestly...at least for ME....i would actually find it MORE compelling 'gameplay' It was not a bunch of guys just charging and hacknig at each other till numbers dwindled over 30 minutes. No. It was HOURS LONG affairs where lines would spend more time SHOUTING at each other than actually fighting. Working up the courage as scared as shit HUMAN BEINGS to enter into...you know...CLOSE QUARTER COMBAT> And anyone who thinks that would be an easy or simple thing to do? Well...go to your nearest fucking recruiting station. I was an Officer. We need 'heroic' people just like you.
