My favorite dish is dressing. I have so many memories of helping my mother make this growing up. It's comfort food, but I only make it every now and then on Thanksgiving. Not really a holiday person anymore. Great video! As always I enjoyed the commentary. Soul Food is a classic movie.

I’ve never considered SF to be a Thanksgiving movie. I feel like the food aspect represents the bonding of black families through food. These big meals were common for Sundays. I ate chitterlings growing up and I still enjoy them. However, I don’t eat them anymore because I don’t want to clean them and I don’t trust anybody else’s cleaning. 😂 MY FAVORITE DISH IS DRESSING 😋

My favorite dish is beans and rice with hot sauce. 18:49 My Mom and Dad are both Anti-chitlins so we never ate them for Thanksgiving. However, I do remember one thanksgiving my Dad, my brothers, and myself went to my paternal grandparents house and my grandma made chitlins. We stayed in one of the rooms with the door shut because it stunk up the entire house. 44:31 It’s crazy but there are people who legit are like this. Who are so concerned about someone saying their food is nasty they disregard the requests of people who are trying to be healthy 54:13 I would love for yall to talk about Soul Food the series. I really enjoyed that show all the way until season 5.

🖖it's been a minute😊 My favorite dish is hard to choose😆 Great video, Heit and Cheri! The doctor's informative segment was dope too. It made me think of my late dad and all the diabetic complications he constantly faced. Just a tidbit: some traditional "soul food" dishes, like mac and cheese, did not originate from this country. A black slave who was allowed to travel to France with his master brought the the French influence back to the states. So much gets revised and rearranged through generations though, you know?? I cannot remember the channel I recently watched this on but it had various videos about unknown facts regarding black history/American history.

I had chitterlings when i was 4, they were good if memory serves right. They're always prepared by my family but because the cleaning takes so long they were always cooked in a small portion and reserved for higher ranking family members. Also my family always makes dressing with a combination of croutons and cornbread😂

I may have an unpopular opinion, but here’s my assessment of this movie: 1. Teri was TIRED, yet she was villainized. She went and got an education and was afforded the same opportunities as her sisters, who both chose not to pursue higher education, and that’s fine. As the oldest child who chose the the same path as Teri, I don’t think that Teri should apologize for her accomplishments nor should she have to financially support her family, other than helping her mother, Big Mama. 2. I disagree about Maxine. I thought she was ratchet and messy. She stole Teri’s man, married him, and Teri was forced to have to look at them throw their relationship in her face every Sunday at dinner. Yes, she was a good mom to Ahmad (you don’t see her really interact with her daughter Kelly, and yes she took care of Big Mama, but that’s the least she can do since Teri has a demanding career and financially takes on all of Big Mama’s responsibilities, wants and needs. I didn’t like her character in this movie. 3. Bird… Nothing really to say about her except she tried to be the peacemaker between her sisters. 4. Big Mama was the real villain because she allowed Maxine to carry on with Kenny, marry him, have his kids and make Teri deal with it. She had all of that money hidden and could have helped Bird and Maxine financially, yet she let Teri continuously use her own money for the house, lending her sisters money, etc. Overall, the family was toxic and Big Mama kept pushing for the whole “forgive and forget” method, which makes things worse. This movie was triggering for me. I didn’t see it as a Thanksgiving movie because they ate the whole movie. It was a Sunday dinner movie.

Your take about toxic families is so out of touch. Black families will outcast gay family members but keep cheating husbands and uncles who prey on their nieces and nephews. Meanwhile daughters are ask to sacrifice themselves to keep the family together while dealing with their mother’s toxic passive hatred. It’s a move in the right direction that we are holding our families accountable instead of enduring physical, sexual and mental abuse for “blood”.
@HeitCheri21 күн бұрын
I'm sorry you feel this way about our assessment. We've actually spoken about many of the "cultural norms" of anti-LGBTQ attitudes and sexual predators in within our culture. Your outlook lumps Black families together and makes a blanket statement when I know that while this happens in many families, it's not all. I'm sorry that the world has presented itself in such a way that this is your perspective. I'd never suggest that you were out of touch though. Instead, I take your word for your experiences (directly or indirectly) that have led to your assessment. We simply have differing opinions about all of this. Just to add, I don't think either of us EVER suggested in any discussion that we've had that blood precludes them from being held accountable.
