I used BDEngine to design the models, WorldPainter and Axiom to create the maps. Links to the maps and models are in the description. Is the old design still supported? Yes, and there are plans to add more organic designs in the future. Will this be released as a mod? I’m interested in creating a Fabric port eventually. I’m still very new to proper modding. Why not change the UV and/or interpolate the textures? As of now, block display entities only support custom affine-transformations and brightness. Why call it a spider if it doesn’t have 8 legs? In scifi, spiders refer to robots with long radiating legs. See the “Spider Tank” article on TVTropes for a list of examples. The number of legs is configurable but 6 looks the most plausible with the current design. I also plan to add manipulators in the future bringing the total to 8.

So I had all 1500 ish lines of spaghetti python code in one file, just filled to the brim with unnecessary code duplication, global variable abuse, you name it, lmao... The cloak is done stunningly well! The fact that on top of that it adapts to the player POV is MIND-BLOWING, THOUGH!

Loove how far this has come! 😁 What I’d like to see next: - Tweak the walking noise: use sfx for the surface (eg grass footsteps), lower volume, and a very small cooldown for how quickly consecutive step sounds can play. - Add an optional light source glow for the eye in darkness, with tweakable color. - Ability for the eye to ‘shoot’ a laser (breath of the wild guardian style) 😎

Awesome. I wonder how much time it took to get to this point? Im asking in how many hours really, the planning, the debugging, the idea, everything. Love to see more!

Thanks so much! It took about 2 weeks to make this video. There's about 50 hours of programming according to my time tracker, but this does not include model design, recording, and editing. The previous videos took quite a lot longer. It's harder to estimate here as I worked on and off on them over several months and I wasn't tracking time back then. I had the idea to work on a procedural animations project since the beginning of this channel, but I always put it off as I thought it would be too difficult.

I think about how much work you've put into getting this “spider” perfectly working (in my opinion) and I wish you all the success in the world in your projects, present or future. And I would like to say that it would be very cool to see her using this camouflage to chase unsuspecting players lmaol.

Something that could be a slight improvement to the leg IK: For the leg raycasts or however you're doing it, if you generate them from a single point above the model going down to the base positions and then do a second cast from the base positions to a single point below the model it will offer better positions to for the legs. You can play around with how high it should be over the model but it doesn't have to go very far (don't want it clipping things above). You would solve if there was a collision from the top raycast, if not continue with the bottom raycast. It should look like a diamond shape if you debug the lines. If you do have clipping issues with the above you could gate the result by a certain length. The resulting effect should make it put its legs onto walls around it more cleanly in tight environments like in caves, but isn't a solution for climbing walls ofc. Also looking really cool it's coming along very well! The camo features is really awesome. I love using angular velocity in procedural animation and a lot of people sleep on it, but it really adds a lot if you use it properly. I've done more procedural animation in Unreal Engine, what's really nice about it is taking advantage of changing the base pose dynamically to change behavior in the model along with procedural animation. If you make a good base system it becomes more about making poses that work well with procedural than making animations which is nice for me not being an animator, and you get reactions to the environment that you can't get with normal animations.

i would absolutely *LOVE* to see this as a mod. Having them as high tech mounts with storage would make this a _must have_ for any mod pack i'll create.
