The speaker took a right turn to explain the liberalism of Constant and de Stael as related to Protestantism. But she immediately launched into cliches about how their Calvinism was void of religious doctrines. That the thinkers may raise questions about their love lives should not be taken to mean a lack of metaphysical foundations. Her biases show forth in her reaction to question on state and church.
