Some land is higher than others. My dad’s house stills 25 ft above sea level, a few miles away is 2ft above sea level, and completely flooded to the second story during hurricane ian. My dad’s house just suffered some wind damage. It’s all relative to many factors.

@@kianna270 yep: you have to be aware of what your elevation is if you live in a storm zone - I live 5 miles inland from a small town called DeLisle, MS - my land is approx. 85 feet above sea level : DeLisle is 3 to 4 feet max - in Katrina the water was 28 feet deep ( to the tops of the power poles ) in DeLisle - OVER the roofs of the houses built on pilings

Sometimes it’s a simple as not having money to do it. Florida is abysmal for workers rights and wages. Some people don’t even have cars with which to evacuate in. I lived there for 25 years. I never regretted my decision to leave that state.

Not to minimize the human risks, but I always fear for the poor wee pets and animals also who don’t understand what is going on and sometimes through cruel necessity are abandoned in evacuated homes.
