Thanks for this clip! I'm happy to find someone who is as big a fan of Rosvaenge as I am. He is probably my favorite of all of the tenors of the last century (or this century so far, for that matter).

Yes he Is my favourite tenor. I think nobody like him has been able to sing at the same time and at very top level Tamino, Lyonel, Manrico, Radames and Otello! Neither Lauri-Volpi. As singer and artist just a word for describing him: immense!

You neglect to mention his most famous attribute. Before Pavarotti was the "King of the High Cs" there was Roswaenge "The Knight of the High Ds". He had maybe the best high register of any major tenor. Every opera lover needs to have heard his Postilion.

I first heard this in of all things the 1937 Fred Astaire, Burns and Allen film Damsel in Distress in a comic version, looked for it for years. Has this ever been recorded in Italian? Caruso, Alda and Journet did "dormi pur" and everyone does "m'appari" in Italian.

Ah, you're talking about "Ah che a voi perdoni Iddio". Nelson Eddy sang it in Disney's short "The Whale Who Wanted to Sing at the Met", where he also sang other operatic pieces using early multitrack recording technology. I actually have the complete Flotow's "Martha" in Italian on mp3, I could share it with you somehow if you like.
