The time in cut should be 100% without sacrificing the tool life and cycle time. Turn the coolant on and use VERICUT Force to keep your chip thickness constant. Thanks Jesse for these test cuts.

👏 Great topic and good point about not break tools. Breaking tools should never be any programmers goal and all the unseen things like spindle damage, holder damage and possible introduction of hidden stresses and fractures in hard metals should always be considered. 🤔 Last operation was great except for the overlap needed. It should have had a 5% min overlap to prevent leaving a sliver in the adjoining two faces. It didn't show up, but in hard metals in a production situation things to consider.

Id like to see a video highlighting which parameters to push, when you start leaving the manufacturer recommended parameters. Should I increase SFM, IPT, RDOC?

Great suggestion for creating a video! Typically, we would start with the manufacturer's recommendations. You can increase efficiency by utilizing the radial chip thinning factor (RCTF) switch in the tool page on any dynamic tool path, this will allow you to increase SFM while maintaining IPT for a given step over.

Interesting testing. Consider a shorter holder using heat shrink or Rego Fix PG style.

Absolutely - this was just the holder than we had on-site for the day of the shoot! No particular reason for why this one was chosen

What were the cycle times?

Approximate Cycle times. Test cut 1 - Helix in Long CTIC - 11:30 Test Cut 2 - offset Start point - 12:30 Test cut 3 - From outside long CTIC - 10:15 Test cut 4 - Peel mill strategy - 17:00 Test cut 5 - Diagonal/half at a time - 14:30

Is there a reason for the toolholder being so long?
@mastercam Жыл бұрын
No particular reason! It was just the holder that was available the day of the test! We also have a Nikken rotary on this machine, so a lot of our holders are longer to allow reach for 5 axis cuts.
