My heli coil is so tight it stripped my bolt unscrewing it from the heli coil. It was a grade 5 but still, guess I better get a stainless steel bolt huh?

Grade 5? Even valve cover bolts these days are graded 8. :p

@SebbyKiser Hey bud, it was a rear end cover bolt on a Chevy 1500. It was a aftermarket bolt I had in the bin just to test the heli coil threads. If it didn't work I didn't wanna strip the factory threads. Like I said I bought stainless steel bolts.

Can you run a tap into it to loosen it up?

Put some never seize on the threads.

This type of threaded metal inserts, made of stainless steel, are frequently used by "Ex" equipment repair workshops (in accordance with the IEC 60079-19 standard), to recover the fragile threads of flame-proof aluminum metal casings (Type of protection Ex “d”, according to IEC 60079-1 Standard). In these cases, the fragile aluminum threads are often stripped due to tightening of the fixing screws, which are normally made of carbon steel or stainless steel. The use of these metallic threaded inserts is also used by selected manufacturers of "Ex" equipment with metallic aluminum enclosures with type of protection Ex “d”, in order to make these "Ex" equipment safer and more reliable, avoiding the risk of undue damage from fragile aluminum threads being stripped, that compromise the safety of "Ex" equipment that was originally certified. 👍

Why the end is broken ? What if the hole is blind ?
@gasa1165 Жыл бұрын
End is broken so you can screw the bolt in all the way, if it’s a blind hole you can blow compressed air into it, usually gets the broken end out.
@toodles904 Жыл бұрын
Not if it's encapsulated in epoxy 🤷
@draxxsklounst6595 Жыл бұрын
You break the tab off that the wrench uses to screw it in so the bolt can go in all the way

What is this used for?
@maxmorrey3199Ай бұрын
When threads strip out. You drill out the old stripped threads, tap the hole with a bigger size, then install the insert and it restores threads to original size and is a strong repair.
