Good video Brian with situational pics that shows what you can encounter and thoughts processes for good pilot decision-making.

Bruce, thanks for commenting. We really want to convince pilots to turn around, land or just say NO. We have to change the mindset.

Clarence, thanks buddy. It is every pilots responsibility to spread the word about aviation safety and just learning to to say NO or just land.

Helicopter Online Ground School Absolutely!!! Like I tell my Instructor my personal minimums aren’t negotiable 8sm, 3000ft winds no more than 8 w/ 10 gust. Doesn’t matter if he is in the aircraft or not.

A basic $15k synthetic vision system would have saved him, they are in all new helicopters. We have a demo on our channel.

Definitely a factor!

Not a pilot but it must help to have a second pair of eyes navigating/communicating while the other pilot is flying. Technology available like synthetic vision and terrain avoidance warning would help too. Probably too expensive to upgrade on older helicopters.

Tom, terrain avoidance.systems can be expensive BUT a $200 ipad with a $200 subscription to foreflight will also give you terrain warning. I use this everyday now and it WORKS. I would rather spend $400 in a year than guess where the terrain is.

@@HelicopterGround Synthetic Vision would solve this and it can be retro fitted in S76's with a STC for less then $20k or on your iPad with Wing X or Foreflight.

A X-plane Helo Channel in Twitch would work great¡¡¡¡

Quite possibly.

Good ADM starts with not flying anything without Synthetic Vision as it completely eliminates the possibility of CFIT or spatial disorientation. You really don't need windows once you're comfortable with Synthetic Vision. I believe you will eventually be able to fly S(for Synthetic)VFR at some point in the future as IFR was really never ideal for helicopters but with SV a low time VFR pilot can go into the clouds safely. Going to put up some SV demo's on our channel.

The problem with flying over cloud in a single engine helicopter is what happens if you have an engine failure. You will not be able to select a LZ and will probably lose control as soon as you enter the cloud layer.
