Around 1980 there was a camo that was similar to this .It was just a grid type pattern with no spots . Wool hounds-tooth was used in Great Britain for hunting and it was just fashionable(and quiet) .Velcro and zippers are not quiet .

I've ordered some original parkas to do a little sewing work on, I love the original material and the length and sewing in some pockets and adjustable cuffs is what I'd like.

Yeah, I love that original parka too. If you put the night desert liner in it its money for a cold weather environment.

Against Gen 1 it actually works pretty good. An easy way to test it is use the most common Gen 1 Night vision available: Trail Cameras.

@@patrickbateman312 Diffusion through older less focal-capable NVG's was it's purpose, but it does have a minute amount of diffusion in general, and is the predecessor/ parent to modern digital patterns sooooo... That and it is stylish AF lol, wore a button-up shirt in the pattern to a work meeting and no one knew any different/ better LOL.
@patrickbateman3122 ай бұрын
@@DJTheMetalheadMercenary soooo it's pretty fucking useless then, isn't it? It was not useful against the generation of night vision it was meant to defeat, it's sure as hell not useful 40 years later. If you like the way it looks that's fine but don't go saying it's practical. That's the equivelant of saying a steel cuirass is a perfectly acceptable alternative to modern body armor on the battlefield.

Fascinating that Helikon, a European company (right?) is manufacturing these vintage US uniform patterns. I loved both the Tiger Stripes and the Nighttime Desert patterns back in the 1980s and 90s. I had and wore both in the US Army and One Shepherd for OPFOR purposes. Too cool. Now...will Helikon remake some of the cool old European patterns like Greek/Portuguese Lizard Stripe?
@Brent03312 жыл бұрын
So, they have done Greek lizard actually! You can find it on Military1st website. I also finally found a Portuguese lizard that in a size that I can "some what" pull off. ha I'll do a video over it come spring/summer.
@chk61949 ай бұрын
Heads up since the Greek lizard is on your radar, it is set to be updated first for SF then the rest of the Greek armed forces, still stripes, mix of light greens and browns resulting in a much lighter overall tone, higher specs to take into account IR performance, more ergonomic, flame retardant, etc. Contract issued to Siamidis SA the company that's also involved in the Nordic Combat Uniform. Greetings from across and thank you both for the great content.
@nemisous832 жыл бұрын
It will defeat gen 3 however its incredibly situational and depends on how much ambient light and contrast of the surrounding environment. In the desert where there is a lot of light backgrounds its basically useless however in extreme low light/in dense vegetation it would be effective similar to multicam black or any darker camouflage pattern. Because night vision only see's contrast so a darker camo pattern against a lighter background is going to stick out the same goes for lighter patterns against a darker background.

I've used them camping as a sleeping bag and they work perfect for me. As an aside, I remember dudes in DS1 bringing that camo pattern home and I wondered how the hell well would it work? Maybe well then, but it never did strike my fancy other than it being a good raincoat or something. Oh, well. Keep up the good work, sir. Thank you for what you do.

I've always liked the night desert pattern. I have numerous pieces. I have a casualty blanket that I picked up somewhere in the 90s. Very unusual piece. I've never found another one like it and can't find any information on it. It's more like a comforter. I also used to have actual bdu in night desert. Those got worn out unfortunately. I can't remember were I found them. Maybe US cavalry. In fact I seem to remember that gortex jacket that you're wear , being listed on their site. I never purchased one. Kind of resenting that now. I like the pants/trousers and the poncho liner. I'd have to put need pads into the trousers though. That's the only thing that I don't like about them.

I don't know why they don't adjust the sizing, surely they have to deal with numerous returns from U.S. customers who think that its the same sizing as regular BDUs when they order.
