Let me clear one thing as so many people are thinking it's KZbin who takes the ad revenue. No. It's the copyright holders of the music I react to, meaning artists/bands. I have appealed every copyright claim I've gotten on these reactions on the grounds of fair use, but 95% of them has gotten rejected. So what I'm doing is basically promoting those artists for free and they also take the ad revenue from these promotions. So this is one of the main reasons why I don't upload the reactions to this channel but a separate channel: kzbin.info

I have a question: why does changing to KZbin channel matter? Won’t you just earn the same miserly amount on the new channel? I must be missing something.

For some reason my edit button just won’t work, but I wanted to add that I really enjoy your channel. Like many others, I am a lifelong Tull fan, but I took up the flute as a child only to walk away because I was frustrated (my utter lack of musical talent might have had a little something to do with it as well :). So I have had a long love of all things flute and it is wonderful seeing someone like yourself breaking down my favorite band’s music. Please don’t ever stop!

The artists MAY get the revenue, it's the publishing companies will be collecting the money, and then the artist may get a percentage of it. It's very possible that you still earn more than the artist, sadly. KZbin and the record company are the winners here.

Hi Heline, I agree with sly23 comment. But, to take it maybe one step further ( and speaking only for myself), I watch your videos because of you. You come across so likeable and charming. I love seeing you interact with your dogs. I have really enjoyed your more personal videos lately. The more I watch, the more I enjoy learning things about you and your everyday life. Its so different and far away from my world on the west coast of the United States. I did come to your channel by way of the reaction videos. But, they only brought me to your channel. I could care less about the reaction videos now ( and I'm a life long Tull fan). I enjoy your music and hope to one day learn to play the flute. But, as I said, ( and I feel like many would agree ) I watch your channel because of you. I don't watch a lot of youtube, but you and Foxes Afloat are my two favorite channels. Please keep the content coming...in any form that makes you happy. I think you are wonderful ! Shine On

Granted, I found you from your reaction to Ian Anderson playing flute, but I feel much of your best work is the stuff your currently engaged with at present. The things that are nearest to your heart alone. Could care less about prevailing trends, or the fickle public attention spans. Your an authentic, sincere, musical artist with immense talents. I love your work, and that's the reason I still watch when I can. Warm regards.

I just watched your first Jethro Tull reaction, and was interested in your perspective - then started thinking about mine. It was the emotional connection to Tull that brought me, because it was part of my teenage years. It really was a combination of both together, because I've never watched Tull or any flutist. You gave me something to think about.

Hi Heline. I, like many others, found you through the reactions videos. I enjoy them but really like your original content. The other music channels I like really are not reaction channels, so I'm ok with your approach. The whole process seems like a headache to me, so I would understand if you didn't bother. The former producer Rick Beato has a channel and has gone into great detail about the issues with all this (a couple of his rants are awesome). You're a fantastic talent and I always look forward to seeing any content you release.

I get it. My father died 2 years ago. He was a painter, and did very good work. While raising a family he did packaging designs for packaging companies, taught school, anything to provide for his wife and 5 children. But he stuck with his love for pen and ink and watercolor seascapes, country paintings. He died at 92 years of age, and for his last 20 years did large art shows, he taught lessons and technique, and acquired a fair following of people buying his art. I never acquired a artistic talent, but the road is tough, but with creative ideas to get your work exposed it can happen. Follow your heart Heline. The world deserves your talent👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

ASCAP and BMI can be really hard to deal with when dealing with copyrighted music. As someone else said, check out Rick Beato. He's got an incredible amount of people following him, viewing his videos etc. He does not monetize videos that have other people's songs in it because of copyrights. He makes his money by selling instructional books and other things involving music. He's a tremendous musician. I hope you can do all that you do for the love of sharing your love of music and not for the numbers. Your personality and honesty, and understanding of music is what keeps me and many others coming back. I've played in many bands, some original, some tribute bands or cover bands. It's very difficult to keep an original band going. It's the same thing with getting your music out there. It's not easy. Please keep making the reaction videos. They're lots of fun. Take good care.

Brilliant solution to a common problem. There are some truly brilliant artists on KZbin who try to present their art but depend on a certain level of "trolling" to generate subs. I for one hate it but I also totally understand it. Making money as a serious musician in any genera is incredibly challenging so it is unfair to criticize someone like Davie504 because he creates non-music related content. It beats paying off a PhD or DMA by flipping burgers...or in Davie's case throwing pizza, by a longshot. I will sub your new channel to give support but my real interest is here with the artist. Cheers!

I'll be honest your channel appeared on my recommended list after watching a few reaction videos from other creators. I watched about half a dozen videos and my impressions and I have to say firstly I enjoyed watching your reactions, especially the Jethro Tull videos as his style and pushing of the boundaries made you smile and really brought your personality out, both personally as well as professionally. Secondly, after watching the reaction videos I then picked up your music channel and sucscribed as when I watched a live stream video you played absoultely beautifully and I was more than happy to subscribe, and whatever routes you choose with the channels I'm sure you are going to get more and more support and I look forward to hearing you play soon, have a great weekend and thanks for sharing your talent.

It does make sense. To me. I never could figure out why these reaction videos are so popular. Probably the explanation will include the term "echo chamber". To me the term Halleluja comes to mind. Although I did watch two of yours, and found them not to be. But rather they appear as being analytical, which I find somewhat interesting when doen by someone with knowledge on the subject. I think I will keep my subscription here, as I have always been somewhat attracted to flutes. ( If you know the story that you find when googling Hameln, you may think I'm a rat. I am not.) Music is for all. As long as you are not recording it to a composition, or performing it for true monetary gain other than standard fee, I think the rules about music should be a bit more flexible. Especially for a Finnish girl playing her flute for us, or having a reaction to their music which is like promoting their songs anyway. When they stop talking about their music is when they should worry.

Every once in a while I'll see a transparency video like this from people with good content. Often times in response to a viral video that surprises them. You would think an insightful reaction critique video you would hope would fall under fair use but alas you do the music publisher a favor. But then again it got your channel exposure and the music publisher isn't getting rich even on a viral video imho yeah the only way to share monetization with the music publishers in the copyright database is to do cover songs if the database recognizes the melody. which I think you've done a little bit. It won't make a lot of AdSense. For people who don't know you have to make $100 on all videos across all your channels before google pays on the 21st of the following month. And get taxed. Monetization for everyone dropped like a rock when the pandemic started in March 2020. It's very slowly picking back up. You have to have 1k subs and 4k views in a certain amount of time which is a newer rule within the past few years. If you don't make a lot consider it 'Fun Money' is what my cousin calls it when he worked at a bar part time he used the money to go on golfing trips lol

maybe google the owner of youtube should study "fair use" Fair use is a legal doctrine that promotes freedom of expression by permitting the unlicensed use of copyright-protected works in certain circumstances. Section 107 of the Copyright Act provides the statutory framework for determining whether something is a fair use and identifies certain types of uses-such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research-as examples of activities that may qualify as fair use. Section 107 calls for consideration of the following four factors in evaluating a question of fair use: you performed a criticism of a performance, entirely within the "fair use" description. but since google is afraid of lawsuits they take the cowardly path of denying anything that anyone files a claim against,

Dear Heline, it is pitiful you are taken advantage of by mega business, KZbin. I first watched YT when it was the guy next door posting an amateur video about tuning his guitar, boring. No offense intended to guitarists. You are a true celebrity, not one manufactured from the Hollywood machine. You write amazingly beautiful music, have the most charming and humble personalities and you have natural beauty. I only include your physical attributes of beauty because the world is focused on it. You could look like me and still deserve praise for your music. Reaction videos have become tiresome as music is subjective. Many comments objected if you had any criticism about other musicians because people become so emotionally invested in their favorite musicians and bands. Who cares? Honestly, I rarely view your live broadcasts because I sleep late everyday. I’m glad you put reaction videos separate from your original content, including your dog! Curious as to what YT paid in royalties to the musicians they protect from you? I’m not against artists receiving what they are due, and I understand why YT has to pay the way they do, it just seems there should be somewhat like a “gentleman’s agreement” where the artist acknowledges you are not intentionally using their work for financial gain. I’m a member of SESAC and have unknown and obscure original music on YT that was performed by 2 different bands I played in. We didn’t earn anything from selling CDs (yeah, it’s been that long ago) so I’d be shocked to get anything from YT. I’m going to endeavor to wake up earlier on Saturdays to enjoy your live broadcast.

I love your channel, but i don't always stick for the long lives. If you release the highlights as single videos, though, I know I'll always end up watching those. Maybe there are other people like me out there...

I’m so sorry about what they’re doing to you. I think it’s totally unfair and they should be taking into account that you were teaching people advanced techniques that they did not know as the average listener. I think the copyright rules are wrong especially when it comes to people revealing music. Needs to be an update in the laws especially in the USA. Again I’m so sorry and I think you’ve done great work.

I don't believe in reaction-videos. I don't believe, that anyone wants to speak about something, he doesn't know. But I did like to hear what you had to say about the music of my favorite bands, like Jethro Tull and Focus. To earn 3 cents with 2.3million spectators is okay to me, because it looks like an easy job. I think, that's the reason, why you now put advertising before that place, in which you come to the point. You are a sympathetic person, but I don't believe you, when you say, you do it just for the music. Sorry.

People want to get paid for just filming themselves watching a video that other people put a lot of money and time in.... You think thats fair? Even if a lot of people watch the reaction, what work for did you really do?

That is appalling. You are one of the few "reactors" who gives genuine technical feedback rather than fake emotional responses. I have seen instances where content creators have fallen foul of the YT algorithm even though they played on the song in question (Leland Sklar and Guy Pratt spring to mind)

I'm not a huge Jethro fan. Honestly, they were just part of the background growing up. But I saw this thumbnail about a classically trained flutist doing a reaction video. And I've been hooked ever since.

Thank you, Heline, for what you've done up to this point. It's all been fun and enjoyable with ample music education stirred in. While I think the copyright holder must always receive a share, I think you should, too, for producing the show. You planned, wrote, performed, and edited the show, producing revenue that otherwise would not have been available to the copyright holder. While I do not think that KZbin should feel the obligation to be your legal representative, I think that in this type of case they cause damage to their content suppliers and copyright holders by not establishing standards for division of reaction show revenues that guarantee a fair income for good content. If the content is lousy then no money will be made, but when it as good as yours, you should be congratulated and compensated by the copyright holder as well as the KZbin platform.

I have to be honest it was a reaction video which brought me here. I hang around because I am a curious person so my curiosity keeps me here. I enjoy a wide range of music so what's not to like and then you bring your dog into some of your video's even better.

I recently took up the violin at 59 and even though you play the flute (beautifully at that), I find your videos inspiring to continue even though it gets difficult. I enjoyed the reaction videos but that is not where I find most the value. It’s your talent that inspires me.

Thank you for talking about the monetization. I often wonder about it, and it seems that monetization of youtube videos is only mentioned in the news when they want to impress an uninformed audience with an exciting story about how much money someone is making on youtube. And often the tone of the story is often condescending, like 'look at this crazy person just making videos and making all this money, what a crazy world we live in', without much coverage of what the youtuber is actually presenting. So it's generally assumed that people are making tons of money on youtube when the opposite is usually true! I appreciate the time you spend on your videos and music, and others like yourself, it is far more rewarding for the audience than the bulk of the nonfiction content on television, and immeasurably more humane.

Heline .....I think you might be underestimating the interest a lot of your subscribers might have about other things that you do. I commented on your Halloween Carnival video on your live stream, but that was out last year because of Covid. Or your trip to Germany. Interaction with other musicians at music sessions. You are an interesting person and other things that you do would be interesting to your subscribers as well. Just a thought.

I need to speak up here, do i think it's sucky that you made nada on your video with so many views? yes, yes i do. But, the copyright is really down to the license holder, and some of the are free and easy with it. and some of them, like Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, and GnR, are not. I am a great believer in fair use, and i am the first to advocate it's use, but it's kinda hard to say it's fair use, when it's a clip several minutes long. I know it sucks, i would agree, but those are the rules. KZbin nowadays, is driven by money, and not ads, its patreon, merchandise, and other sundries from people who essentially think they are an influencer (a disgusting term) and now, you have to "pay" to get someone to react to something. So much for the musical journey we where gonna take together. (you made no such promise) KZbin is rotten to the core, it's what usually happens, when money gets onvolved.

I am really dismayed and sorry that this is happening to you. Especially because - obviously - your reaction videos are so entertaining. In addition they are compelling because you are genuine in your entire demeanor, not just your reactions. It's clear, to us at least, that it is not your intent to make money off of someone else's artistic labors ... rather, you celebrate, promote and extol their talents. For me one of the biggest hypocrisies for is the KZbin is making a great deal of revenue from your reaction videos. It's too bad there isn't a competing social media platform that you could go to and erase your videos from KZbin. I wish you the most success ... and yes, there are wishes for your financial success as well. Let us all know what we can do for you! Good Luck!!!!!

Bravo Heline ! I am not a huge Jethro fan, Focus is one of my favourite, you could take a challenge and if you tried to play how you'd play some of their songs from Moving Waves, or from the other of their equally great projects ? You have a presence and somehow courageous (mysterious) personality and you'll always attract the viewers .... thanks

Hi Heline! Guilty as charged…😔. I found this channel because I watch quite a few reaction videos and when I saw you reacting to Jethro Tull. I think maybe it’s time for me to react to your music videos as well! I am truly sorry if we made you and your music feel unimportant. You deserve better and I will be better for you.
