Also note that an adjustable adapter is necessary to have the lens properly aligned when it's mounted. Thanks for the videos! Lens declicking part would be nice, for the 44M I was quoted by a popular company $200. I ended up declicking my lens in 5 min that anyone can do.

+Tito Ferradans most of the 44s as most us know have m42 thread. The problem is a proper vertical orientation of the oval ring, but solved in few ways. 1- turning the oval ring until it's straight as you said. 2- Cheap M42 to Canon EF adapters never thread into the correct spot and your lens ends up sideways. How to correct this for a more permanent solution: you buy the adjustable thread mount m42 to EF adapter. Cheapest I've found on eBay is $5.99 US. Hope that's clear now? Yes- evil ball bearing! And no videos to show how to remove it. (I did mine - 44M). No idea about the 44-2 unless I watch how they dismantle the lens in other videos.

Does affect the F-Stop at all? Will there be any vignetting? And will this look squeezed on the DSLR? (I'm on a Sony A7s Mark I) Also curious what the advantage is of doing this over just having the right frame dimensions/ratio within your postproduction software?

nice one mate! Would u be able to do a follow-up episode testing if it's possible to attach a fishing-line or flare creating filter inside the iris along with the oval template itself? Instead of mounting the fishing line outside the front of the filter, i mean.

First, gotta say, love the clever modding, footage looks great. Had some questions though. 1. Would a crop sensor necessitate an adjustment in the aperture disk's design? Wouldn't the oval bokeh be cut off into an awkward shape if using on something like a GH2? 2. Is the process you outlined in the video the same on the 44-m as the 44-2? 3. Any experience anamorfaking the MIR-1 37mm or have any advice to offer on doing so?

+Tito Ferradans Yeah.. I think I'll have to sell some of them, it would be sad to see them pick up dust on a shelf.. Hmm.. I've thought about buying a few cheap adapters with aperture blades, and then experiment on making a variable oval aperture... :O Do you think that's possible? I had a old cheap adapter and tried to mess with the blades, and I managed to remove some blades which created interesting shapes of the aperture, but at around f/3.5 and 4, it was exactly oval, and then changed to another shape.. I'm curious as to if it's possible to make a aperture design which is oval trough the f/2.8 to 5.6 range or more.. :)

Hello good morning, I wanted to ask you why I have the same goal with the anamorphic modification 😁 but there is a doubt that eats me up inside, I record with a Sony a7III in 1080 and 4K but when creating the sequence I don't know what resolution to put, I don't know if I have to leave it normal or put an anamorphic resolution, could you explain it to me please
@AnamorphicOnABudget2 жыл бұрын
It's up to you. The modification doesn't create squeeze, so if you want a widescreen aspect ratio, you'll be cropping out the footage. The standard size is 1920x800 or 3840x1600.
@ibanmiguelstudio73002 жыл бұрын
@@AnamorphicOnABudget These measures that you give me are the official ones to make an anamorphic aspect ratio, right?
@AnamorphicOnABudget2 жыл бұрын
What is "official" on the internet? Any aspect ratio is valid. The ones I'm giving you are for a 2.4:1 delivery. You could decide for 2.39:1 or 2.35:1, or a number of other sizes.

Great video, Man! Do you know if the process is the same when working with Helios 44m, Helios 44m-4?
@ErikAleynikov7 жыл бұрын
The reason I'm asking is: I like that the focus ring on Helios 44m-4 is in front. I do hope that the process is the same since I'm going to order a Helios 44m-4 because of the position of the focus ring.
@ErikAleynikov7 жыл бұрын
By the way, what do you think of the aperture ring that works in the opposite way? Do you think it's a problem? Or something you get used to?
@ErikAleynikov7 жыл бұрын
Shit, such a hard choice Helios 44-2 - Anamorphic trick works 100% but the aperture is backwards and is in front of the lens Helios 44m-4 - Everything's fine with the aperture ( not smooth though ) but it's a mystery whether the anamorphic trick will work
@ErikAleynikov7 жыл бұрын
When you set your aperture on the lens to f16, it's actually at f2. And also, comparing to Helios 44m-4, the aperture ring is in front of the lens and the focus ring is closer to the body.

so this only works at a fixed apeture? I'm thinking because you couldn't stop down or that oval would become cropped by the actual lens aperture size and shape.. And if you made the cutout smaller, so you could stop down to f/5.6, then in effect you would have the depth of field of f/5.6 even if you went back to f/2. (i don't understand anamorphic lenses really. How does the aperture/iris change on them?)
