Make a spray bottle of epsom salt water and spray your helix piercing both in front and at the back in the morning and evening, soak it good and then LEAVE the piercing alone, no touching it. When you take a shower or bath ensure you rinse the piercing good with the water as hot as possible - this will gently remove any dry blood/discharge, spray with epsom salt afterwards. I got my helix piercing on the 27th May this year and with this simple cleaning/treatment routine I've had no discharge, no bleeding and the swelling went down completely after 3 days of getting the piercing.

I’ve actually read it’s harmful to use epsom salt bc it’s too harsh for the piercing. The only recommended kind of salt is sea salt! But I endorse everything else you said😊

me too! i only ever used unscented bar soap and occasionally used chamomile tea bags for hot compress for the first week after the piercing to make sure it wouldn't get infected. tea bags act as hot compress. i'd then do a water and soap mixture with a q-tip and then rinse.

Hey Jane, thanks so much for uploading this vid and the one where you took out your first helix a year ago! I found you because I was trying to figure out how to take out my helix piercings for the first time, and both videos have assured me that I'm a bit hasty lol. I got two helixes close together, kinda like yours, and they're flat back so the backs almost touch. If I could I would suggest to others to get them spaced apart enough to get a q tip in between them, because I really unnecessarily hassled my two piercings trying to clean them lol. It's been 5 months and the piercer said that if all goes well I could take them out by 4 months, but your comment about if it still hurts it's too early has made me realize I can still relax a bit with taking them out. They've been good so far and I really don't want to aggravate them lol. I do the warm salt water soak as you describe it, except I've just been cleaning it with fresh water afterwards from the start as I can't image having to shower for an ear 😂 I literally got an undercut for my piercings as I was sick of getting my hair around my ear all full of salt water and they looked greasier than the rest 😩 but now I really like the undercut so win-win 🤷♀️ Anyway your routine seems perfect and like it covers all the bases for people who don't know how to look after their cartilage piercings. I did a lot of research before I got them and I couldn't believe the amount of people who got piercings and had no idea what to do with them, and the ranging advice that piercers give! It's insane. Luckily I got a good piercer and I'm not leaving her for anyone else yet lol, even if she's in another city 😭 but yeah I hope you help a few people who need it bc lord knows there's enough misinformation out there. Sorry for the rant? Lol have a good day x

I hope you’ll be able to change your earring soon!!💗🤞🏼I’m still waiting to change my second one😭

i have gotten my piercing and honestly, I would say go for it. it's like a 4/10 on a pain scale. just make sure to keep up your aftercare routine. in the 3rd week of my piercing, I stopped doing it for 3 days and it started secreting pus and it got swollen so that was my lesson.🥲 also don't please don't get your ear pierced by a gun. its hard to properly "sterilize' them so you have a higher chance of getting infected. but getting piercings is really fun, I get lots of compliments on it.

Hi Jane! Thank you for this informative vid! New sub here :) My helix piercings (on both ears) are a month and 5days old now. My left helix started to act up on the 4th week while my right about a few days ago (there are pus/blood every morning, probably because they get touched during my sleep even when I sleep flat on my back, of course coz we'd surely have the tendency to turn to our sides while asleep haha). Anyway, I didn't have any solution, just water and Qtips. My left helix stopped secreting pus/blood but there's a slight crust buildup that doesn't get wiped off by the qtips; this ear somehow hurts down my conch. Kinda scared and now regretful haha but it's done lol. I'd definitely do the salt and warm water this time coz I'm afraid they'd get infected. Hopefully they both get well soonest huhu
