The funniest thing about this whole interaction is that it perfectly highlight Alastor’s biggest weakness: his pathological need to be the most important person in the room. He was gone for 7 years, none of the other overlords cared where he went or what he was doing. Demons weaker than him annoying him and disrespecting him? Their screams of agony are broadcast all across Hell. The King of Hell shows us? Well, Alastor simply can’t compete in terms of power, but Lucifer does NOT like the idea of anyone else filling the father figure role of Charlie’s life. So, Alastor tries his hand at taking that spot.

Vox and Vaggie appear to be the only people who even cared about his return, Vaggie because she’s obsessed with keeping Charlie safe and Vox because he’s still mad that Alastor refused his offer and then didn’t die for it.

One thing I noticed after listening to this song a billion times is why Charlie looks so awkward around her dad but is more positively responsive to Alastor. Lucifer is basically trying to show off and fix the hotel without actually addressing Charlie’s problem. He wants to show that, as of the king of hell, he can give her anything and everything to make the hotel look and feel better, even if that’s not really what she wants at the moment. He wants to give Charlie and the hotel the royal treatment, even though she didn’t ask him to do that. He’s trying to get close to her through material means. He doesn’t understand that she needs support and validation, not a fancy upgrade to the hotel. He’s being genuine, but he doesn’t know how to talk to his daughter without overcompensating. Meanwhile Alastor seems to be almost completely disingenuous, but it works because he knows what she wants to hear. He claims to support her and validates her. Not to mention, unlike Lucifer, he ACTUALLY knows her. No matter his intentions or whether or not he’s lying through his teeth, he’s been there “since day 1”, supporting and validating her. That’s why he only brings that up instead of trying to produce material objects like Lucifer (also because he can’t outdo Lucifer with that sort of thing.) Because of this, he legit feels more like a father figure than Lucifer does. Later in the episode, Lucifer did win the little battle because he was able to be more personal with his daughter, but in this song, Alastor was definitely winning.
@yukk948111 ай бұрын

@morningmoss462811 ай бұрын
I think his overcompensation was his second attempt of trying to show Charlie that she shouldn’t work with Heaven. Originally it was speculated that the reason Lucifer sent Charlie to the meeting with Adam was because he didn’t want to deal with his wife’s ex. But after he talked to Charlie, I think it was his way of first showing her that Heaven won’t work with her. That there’s more corruption than she knows. But when that didn’t work he showed off as a way to say “don’t rely on Heaven, rely on me.” He just wanted to turn her down gently. He wanted her to change her mind. After actually talking to Charlie and seeing her passion he then realized that he couldn’t change her mind. That while he wants to protect only her, she wants to protect all of Hell. Even when they don’t all deserve it. I hope we see more of him in the show, though I know Alastor wants to see less of him. Also side note but, I want to know where Eve is. Adam doesn’t really mention her and Lute definitely isn’t her. I know people are speculating that Alastor’s “leash holder” is Lilith but what if it’s both Lilith and Eve? What if they’re working towards a common goal and Lilith is having Alastor work with Charlie to get to accomplish something or having him distract her to protect her.
@mirulei11 ай бұрын
this is a great analysis. alastor knows he can't compete with any of lucifer's material offerings so he just uses his relationship with charlie that her dad failed to establish instead, whereas lucifer keeps trying to compensate for that with more and more offerings.

All of his songs are basically that. His songs are either forcing his way into someone else's song and twisting it on its head, or parodying someone else's to have the opposite meaning. In this song, Lucifer is only really focussing on what he can materially offer his daughter, and an intrinsic bond they have based on blood, having had a very estranged relationship with her for a while now. So Alastor chose to sing about found family and more personal support. This says nothing about how he actually feels about Charlie - it's just what she knew she'd respond to most positively, and what he thought would piss off Lucifer the most since he couldn't offer the same thing.

I'm gonna actually go on the limb and say Alastor was legitimately jealous. Not because he views Charlie as a daughter, but because he has pride in his work, and the entire hotel has basically become "his." So Charlie(who's the heart of the whole thing) getting help from the 1 person Alastor truly has no power over is like he's getting cut out of the 1 thing he's genuinely putting effort into(which is supported by him kicking out probably the closest individual he had as a friend, purely because they weren't taking Charlie's dream seriously, and were bringing harm to the hotel).
@JayFromWalmark11 ай бұрын
I completely agree
@BuckerydogSchmuckeryDog11 ай бұрын
Oh, there's so much. All of this yes, I also think he deeply fears powerlessness and being dismissed. Lucifer replacing him would certainly sting. I think it's interesting that once he reinforces his value, (by defending the hotel and kicking out Mimzy), he suddenly doesn't give af about Lucifer anymore. OH and we know he's being controlled by someone which he's also extremely insecure and terrified about. I wonder if he's not at the hotel out of his free will, but rather his owner WANTS him to be there for some reason. **cough** Lilith **cough** If Lucifer had successfully replaced him, who knows what repercussions he could have faced for his failure?

@@BuckerydogSchmuckeryDog Lilith 100% has his soul, not even Alastor would go this far JUST for entertainment. Lilith most likely gave him all this power just so he could ensure Charlie's plans succeed, also so he can snuff out any overlords who would get in her way. Alastor doesn't strike me as power hungry, so I bet everything he has done has been under Lilith's watch.

The fact that lucifer (avatar of pride, here a mentally unstable, depressed father) and alastor (high functioning sadistic serial killer) are "fighting" for charlies attention, even tough alastor is only doing it because he wants to be superior, is so wholesome. I love how they are so similar but on a very uniqe way. Alastor wears black tie, lucifer white tie, they both use walking sticks, have sharp teeth... They even play the instruments that are most resonant with each other (Lucifer plays violin and alastor plays piano). Electroswing is also my favorite genre, so it has to be my favorite so far.

The violin is unique! Its a call out to the song "The Devil Went Out to Georgia" in which the Devil picked this dude in a duel with playing the fiddle. If the mortal won, he'd win the devil's gold fiddle but if he lost, the devil would take his soul. It was the greatest song of its time and I wish more people got to hear it!

It seems to me that Alastor burst into the song not to attract Charlie's attention, but to annoy Lucifer and draw attention to himself. Just look at where Alastor is looking while taking care of Charlie.

Ok, here's how this goes: We have established that Alastor is in someone's leash, the most probable theory being that said leash belongs to Lilith who forced him to help and protect Charlie and her hotel, given Lucifer's apathy. Alastor sees Lucifer's return as a threat to himself. I mean, he can't compete with Lucifer and if he doesn't prove useful to Charlie, who knows what whoever controls him would do to him.
