Never knew that Johnny Mack Brown made a western with John Wayne, and one of the earliest movies with sound.

Earliest movies with sound? Not hardly. Talkies had been out for ten years by the time this came out.

Really a better script than I expected. The cousin was a good man, gave John Wayne's character a fair shake and allowed Wayne to steal the girl. Quite a man, not sure those type exist in this world today.

I always enjoy watching John Wayne's films before he hit major stardom. This one is two years before his breakthrough in STAGECOACH but the familiar Wayne charisma is already evident. Heck, he had that down back in his first starring role in THE BIG TRAIL (1930). Oh, and HELL TOWN has some good poker playing.

I wonder whether the "fake runaway horse and the poor woman who had no idea how to stop it" scene looked as corny in Early 1938 as it does to-day?
@Hal-k8p7 ай бұрын
There is no way it could look as corny because people today (you) have entirely different expectations than they did back then. That was high drama for them and fairly well executed. But since WE have seen it a million times, it is now cliche and we expect better. You really can't judge early 20th century movies by early 21st century standards.
