So glad I found your channel!!! I am going to start learning Euskara this year. My wife and I are going to walk a Camino next year and I want to be able to talk to the people in the Basque country. I am 3/4 blood so it is my mission to get at least competent to communicate with others. Good luck and let's do this!!!!!

Anne Marie, I can empathize the various conceptions people have in learning a new language. During my tenure with the Peace Corps in Armenia, my friends and colleagues persisted that I commit to learning Russian considering that Armenia was subjected by the Soviet Union and still prevalent. However, in analyzing the nature of the Armenian language, I was reminded that various scholars and activists dedicated (and even sacrificed) themselves to preserving the language because it’s an important variable of identity. Personally, it an honor to speak a language that many have strived to protect! Thank you for sharing this because it definitely resonated with my own experience! Eskerrik Asko!

Just wondering, I’d like to know if our last name is Basque (Esquer) I thought it was but I was told by someone they heard this name a lot in Portugal. Maybe you can help me.

It may be related to ancient Sumerian. Lots of good evidence on KZbin.

I was watching a polyglot video on how to acquire a new language. He showed levels of various languages from level 1-5 and how many hours each level will take to acquire. 1 being the easiest to acquire and 5 being the hardest. I didn’t see Euskara on any of the level lists. So I asked him if Euskara was a level 5 or higher. He tells me that it’s more like a level 2 or 3 and shouldn’t be that difficult.... 🤔I would love to hear other opinions or thoughts on this... Would you say it’s equal to German (level 2) or Greek (level 3) or... you would agree that it is easier than Japanese, Arabic or Chinese (level 5)?

Very interesting questions. As I'm not a polyglot, I can't really compare my learning Euskara to any language so I don't know how difficult it is to learn compared to others. But hopefully someone else can chime in here and answer your question :)

Pourquoi apprendre le basque ? Parce que c'est une des langues les plus cool du monde ! Pas besoin d'autre justification !
