Ron Perlman (Hellboy) has *almost* as many heavy-makeup credits as Doug Jones (Abe Sapien). Ron played for several years under makeup in the TV show, "Beauty and the Beast" (1987 - 1990. NO relation to the Disney film!!), he also played a goat-man, the "Sayer of the Law" character, in the 1996 film "The Island of Dr. Moreau," among many other wonderful roles through his career. He was 54 years old when filming the first Hellboy movie! Doug Jones (Abe) was "Billy" in Hocus Pocus, he was in Pan's Labyrinth, The Shape of Water, Star Trek Discovery, and a long long list.

Ron Perlman is Hellboy and the later attempt at rebooting the character failed because the later version lacked Ron Perlman classical style which was not to be recreated. Good reaction as always ladies as you are both classy and energetic in your reactions.

There were also ethnic Waffen SS units of Ukrainians, Belorussians, Russians, Cossacks, Bulgars, etc.
@michaelccozens5 ай бұрын
Sure, but *why* did those Russians do that? Historically, it was often because the Nazis were the only people between said Russian communities and Stalin's death squads. That doesn't make the Nazis good, but you can see how they might be perceived as better than the alternative, at least in that context and for those people.
@michaelccozens5 ай бұрын
@@jhilal2385 True, but that's a whole thing. First, the Nazis were pretty clear that Slavs in general were "untermenschen", fit only for enslavement or eradication, so it's not like they were really aligned ideologically (though I'm sure some were). Second, the Wehrmacht was not subtle about making it clear that "volunteering" for combat duty was often much more of a "voluntold" sorta deal. Third, you have to remember that many of the ethnicities and nations in question, especially Ukraine, had just spent more than a decade under the tender mercies of Stalin's Holomodor, AKA the deliberate starvation of millions. I'm sure lots of Central and Eastern Europeans weren't jazzed about the Nazis, but when they're the only ones ridding you of the Soviets genociding you (and haven't yet had the opportunity to do it themselves), it's not hard to see how a lot of people might don a German uniform to join the anti-Stalinist fight without looking too closely at what that might mean further down the road. I'm not saying there were no white-supremacists and other Nazi-esque fascists in the mix in said geographic region - there were plenty, as there were (and are) everywhere, unfortunately - but I am saying that it's a lot easier to throw stones with the advantage of 75 years of hindsight and without having just barely survived an intentional mass famine. Sometimes, the only choices life gives you are "really bad" and "unimaginably bad", so while people must be accountable for their choices, I think some acknowledgement of the complexities and nuances of the situation are in order. Plenty of Americans were arguably more bigoted than the Nazis when it came to racial issues, for example - witness the brawls that almost became open warfare when US troops tried to impose "colour bars" (ie. "whites only" areas and facilities, which even the Germans didn't really do) in Allied nations like the UK and Australia - so you might say such situations weren't always as "black and white" as they could appear at first glance.
