Although it has long since fallen out of favor, there is absolutely nothing wrong with crossdraw carry. Each method of carry has it's own set of good points and negatives. There was a time if you sat down in briefing or heading out of the locker room with a S&W M36, M37 or a M60 in a crossdraw holster, you were the star of the show! I still wear my old time crossdraw with my Smith 442. Great video!

Would think as a driving rig or for any seated use, office etc. This would be a top consideration. Its positioning is such not to be restricted by a seat belt, where strong hand for most that's right hand holsters can be encumbered by that seat belt when you may need to draw a weapon. Good concept Chief.

Nice sales pitch👍 Now, for those actually considering this holster ... Desantis quality is good and with retention screw tightened all the way, holds the Hellcat securely. It is very comfortable and easy to access when seating in the car. Those are the pros. Cons: if your belt is 1.5”, it will slide freely back and forth, the 1 5/8” fits barely. It can’t be easily switched from one outfit to another without removing the belt. Clip mount would work for that. But the most important issue - it doesn’t keep the gun close enough to the body for proper concealment, even with the suit jacket worn. Forget about the t-shirt or even Hawaiian shirt. No go for EDC. On a side note, I think the demand is here even if it’s limited. I hope some company will make a well designed, comfortable EDC cross draw holster. No luck so far in my search. Everyone’s seem to try to cash in on the AIWB craze at the moment.

I don't personally have one, but it looks like they have quality gear that you and your outher veiwers might be interested in. Also, there's Andrews Leather out of Florida. They have a handy cross draw holster that is removable allowing you to move your side arm from strong side to cross draw while seated in your vehicle. You might check them out also.

Thanks for showing a cross-draw holster. Not much on KZbin about them. I agree that cross-draw provides much better access when seated than conventional OWB carry, but it is just a little more difficult to conceal, as it’s closer to the opening of the cover garment. There are no perfect solutions (some will argue that AIWB comes close), but there are many options.

Nothing against DeSantis, they make great holsters, but for cross-draw, Falco gets my money. It is a paddle style, which as paddle owners know, distributes the weight over more area and keeps the weight close to the body; resulting in a much more comfortable carry. Their cross-draw also has a snap strap positive retention feature which I prefer. Be advised, their holsters are molded to a cast of your gun and the leather is thick, stiff and top quality: it will take a goodly amount of mink oil, flexing and plastic wrapping to make it work at its best for you, but IMO, it's worth it. I own three of them and carry one of them daily. BTW, I'm not talking plastic McPistols here, only all steel .45 ACP. It will take them three weeks (they are in Slovakia) to get it to your door (FedEx only), but it has always been worth the wait for me.

Like you said Chief - this holster design is excellent for sitting & driving. For walking around a bit too easily snatched, IMO. If you are a cab driver, truck driver, or sit in the car for hours on end I definitely see the point of this holster. That said, a cross draw with no retention is not a great choice for most other situations - at least IMO. I own many DeSantis Holsters and :"for the money" they are a terrific value and descent quality. That said, if you ever want to own the absolute best (again - IMO) a Kramer Leather HORSEHIDE holster has no equal! Yes - they are all custom made and a bit pricy, but you will not get a better working holster. Their Horse Hide is much thinner than Cowhide but many times stronger and has better retention. The pistol clicks in as though it were Kydex! I dare yo to try and wear one out! lol. Just so you know I have paid full price for every Kramer I own and have absolutely nothing at all to do with their Company - they wouldn't even know who I am (just for the record). Simply a satisfied repeat customer! But as far as your review of the DeSantis cross-draw - if at a seated position most of the time - I agree with your assessment!

That is a nice looking holster, I knew a guy that had a cross draw that looked very much like yours, but I don’t think it was that brand. He really liked the holster because he was a taxi driver, or a limo driver whatever you want to call it and he liked it for the same reason as you, driving. That said, the only time I’ve ever seen a gun just fall out of a holster is when he was wearing his and bent over to pick up something, and I saw it happen on two separate occasions. So keep an eye on the tensioner and stay safe.

The problem I see with this is that it won't conceal under a shirt. Try to put a shirt over it and it looks like you have a colostomy bag on. There's no way it won't print. You need a jacket type garment (the shoot me vest would go into that class), and you can't take it off without going open carry. With IWB at 4-ish o'clock or AIWB, you should be able to conceal under a shirt.

Ok Mr. Hrfunk i have a question for ya my brother and I had a little discussion on 9mm ammo he says you gave to get a 9mm+p ammo to make 9mm worth wild I say no standard pressure 9mm will work just as good. What your thoughts
@hrfunk4 жыл бұрын
I could probably produce an hour long video on this topic, and in the end there would be as many people who agreed with me as those who disagreed. When you consider a question like this, you have to establish some parameters. When someone uses an ambiguous statement like "to be worthwhile"; what does that mean? If someone is only concerned with generating the highest velocity that the 9mm cartridge can impose upon a particular bullet, then certainly the +P loads win. There are times when that might be the deciding factor; such as use at extended ranges where the standard pressure loads would lack the residual velocity/energy to accomplish the required task. On the other hand, if we are talking about producing an effective wound at typical handgun distances, the improved range/trajectory of the +P loads might be superfluous. So here is the salient question. What do we want the bullet to do? If the answer to that question is: "to stop a person who is intending to cause me great physical harm", then we have to look at what is necessary to "stop" such a person. There are essentially two ways human beings succumb to wounds produced by bullets. One involves a bullet that produces such trauma to the central nervous system that the individual is more or less instantly incapacitated. The second requires the bullet to damage major blood bearing organs and produce sufficient hemorrhage so as to cause a major drop in blood pressure and deprive the individual's brain of sufficient oxygen necessary to maintain hostile actions (this can take some time to occur depending upon the amount of hemorrhage resulting from the wound). The most important factor in all of this is not so much the load or bullet that is used, but rather what that bullet strikes and the degree to which said anatomical feature is damaged. The velocity imparted to the bullet by the burning powder is less important (but not UNimportant) than how that bullet reacts when it strikes flesh and bone. In an effort to maximize the "wound cavity", ammunition manufacturers have, for the past several decades, created bullets that expand upon contact with a fluid medium. So called "hollow point" bullets have become the industry standard in terms of defensive ammunition. It is pretty well known that hollow point bullets require a certain velocity "threshold" to expand reliably. Less commonly known is the fact that not all hollow point ammunition expands at the same rate. Stated simply, a softer bullet will expand faster than a harder bullet if both are propelled at the same velocity into the same medium. A bullet traveling through a fluid medium is analogous to a skydiver descending through the atmosphere. Prior to deploying his parachute, the skydiver has little resistance to slow his fall. When the parachute is deployed, there is much greater resistance and the skydiver is safely lowered to the ground. The sooner the skydiver opens his parachute, the sooner his free-fall is arrested. The same is true with bullets, the sooner a bullet expands, the sooner it experiences greater resistance and, all other things being equal, the sooner the bullet looses inertia and stops. So, if two identical bullets are fired in to the same substance at different velocities, the bullet with the higher velocity will expand faster and stop its travel sooner than the one fired at a slower velocity. So propelling a bullet at a +P velocity "could" cause that bullet to fail to reach vital organs. It is for this reason that manufacturers have to try to determine the depth to which the bullet should penetrate in human tissue in order to produce an effective wound. They then have to construct bullets that will expand at the proper rate to achieve that depth when fired at whatever velocity the cartridge is programmed to impart. That being the case, good defensive ammunition will use a harder bullet with a stiffer jacket for +P ammunition and softer bullets with a thinner jacket for standard pressure ammo. The actual performance of those two bullets should be similar. There is some debate as to whether short-barreled pistols and revolvers produce insufficient velocity with standard pressure ammunition so as to achieve proper penetration and expansion. Some shooters believe +P pressures and their greater velocity are necessary with these diminutive firearms to facilitate good terminal performance. That, however, comes at the cost of increased recoil which may negatively influence the defensive shooter's ability to place effective shots on target. This is, of course, highly dependent upon the skill and experience of the shooter. So in summation, is +P ammo more worthwhile than standard pressure ammo? Personally, I would not want to be shot with either one.

Lol at the end i agree I wouldn't wanna be shot by either too. Thanks for the reply as well. If it any consultation I lije to use speer gold dot 147 grain

Hiyas Mr Funk. As time goes on they will fall out. I've had one like that from "DeSantis" I also have one for my sp -101 snub nose 357 , it sits in that holster ,under my pillow .As long as I've been married , the sp -101 has always been there. They also tend to get a lean out position too. Long lasting great holsters but pricey. If I may , I'd suggest "Ken's leathercraft.com He lives within driving distance of me. He sells online reasonable ,cheapest """BEST""" shoulder holster anywhere ,or any site I've ever been on. He does excellent work. You actually get a lot more than you would think. Read his reviews . I have 4 shoulder holsters by him ,a cowboy rig ,and a fast draw rig . He has also done a couple knife sheaths as well. Big thick sheath's ,hand me down quality , all handmade by him. He works behind his house , his shop looks like a bomb went off ,but he knows where everything is . He has always worked for himself ,looks like a 60's hippie ,except he has white hair. Tell me where you are going to get a handmade custom order fast draw rig for $135.00 that's with the bullet deflector ,12 bullet loop's , and free badge holder ,read the reviews I think there's a video on it here on you tube . Always trying to help Mr. Funk , I bought the Jeep Grand Cherokee metallic black , sweet. 2021. Peace.

The shoot-me-first vest is so tempting.
@markpaolino42642 жыл бұрын
I like their products, but as far as the Criss-Cross goes, it looks like you have to undue your belt and slip it out of the belt loops toremove it.

That is correct.

I suspect this holster requires a very disciplined draw to avoid muzzle sweeping half the people in front of you. A discipline that might slip under pressure. Did I imagine that I could see the base of the pistols grip under your "shoot me first vest"?
@everydayamputee3 ай бұрын
Used to hear that the cross draw was the BOOGEYMAN! "Too easy for a felon to snatch it, your arm can be pinned across your chest when reaching for pistol, you muzzle everything, blah, blah, blah. No one will know I have it until I draw it. I'm not gonna muzzle anyone while drawing and in a life or death situation, I DON'T CARE IF I MUZZLE SOMEONE WHILE BRING THE WEAPON TO BEAR ON THE BAD GUY! And your strongside arm and be pinned against your side preventing a draw from the strong side as well! If you have limited mobility in your strong hand like I do, the cross draw makes total sense. Lets see "Mr. Tacticool" draw his 6 inch Glock with light and MRDS from appendix while seated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Watching "Lethal Weapon" and I see that Danny Glover is carrying his revolver in a cross draw holster. I think criss-cross has to be further back, unless you are at the card table, playing poker with cheating buddies.
@hrfunk3 жыл бұрын
I prefer it more to the front. It’s easier to access.

HR..... I feel I must side against you on the cross draw holster. As a long time law enforcement firearms instructor, I preach against any holster that is not strong side carry. After many years of training, our officer's have developed strong muscle memory for strong side draw both from duty rigs and concealed carry strong side holsters worn by plain clothes detectives. We have our plain clothed detectives qualify with their issued strong side holsters from concealment to enforce muscle memory along with sweeping the concealment garment. When you draw from a cross draw holster, you may sweep bystanders with your muzzle during the draw process before you come on threat. I feel under intense stress that comes from an incident that causes an officer or citizen to draw their defensive weapon, they will instinctively revert to their training and muscle memory and go to that strong side weapon draw and not find the pistol they need.......
@hrfunk4 жыл бұрын
Your dissent is noted and your points are valid. Still, would you agree that if one is seated in a vehicle with seatbelt, center console, radios, radars, gizmos, and coffee cups, that the cross-draw would allow faster/easier access to a sidearm?

Muscle memory works for crossdraw too.
