We're never going to have any real survivability until helmets start doing something for armor. Those headshots are far too frequent from _everything_ so you kind of just have to assume that the next hit is fatal.

Armor on head were existing in the past, but got deleted. Makes sense, to be honest. Even in suit, there's so-called meta. Making only selective head armor be unique in its functionality will be making the game even more meta-pick or troll-pick, while confusing the game development direction even more drastically.

@@pantheracheaxb747 Hits to the head in HD2 act like your head is just about exposed, not covered by a thick helmet. They don't need to add special effects like the armor sets have, they just need to give the helmets armor at all. I shouldn't be almost consistently getting my head blown off by aimbot rockets from across the damn map. Significant damage, yes. But not one shot almost every time. Or getting KOd by the already annoying to deal with Hunter swarm because the one in my face got a melee headshot (WHY THE FUCK DOES THAT EXIST?!) and took most of or all of my health. Im not looking for more meta crap or an easy mode answer. I just want some of the annoyance to be toned down and for what remains to make sense.

The armor system just needs a whole rework. If they’re going to leave headshots in, we need more incentive to use heavy armor, like more stat bonuses, max ammo or special/support weapons that can only be wielded as a heavy class.

what the heavy armor needs is not more armor. just needs a stagger reduction like in HD1 and a headshot negative/reduction (ether or. ) the new patch fixed the rpg damage over all so even light armor can live through a rocket sometimes.

No joke I got killed from half health in heavy armor purely by getting staggered so much I could not use stims. Received all the shots from the basic automatons that kept interrupting me until I died. There should be some sort of stagger resistance, even if it's on an armor passive.

Spewers feel much better to fight, no longer do they kill you in one tick of damage just by grazing your toe with puke droplets

Spewers gave the instakill stream to Hulks, and Hulks gave the Spewers their reasonably-damaging stream in return. We no longer get instakilled by Spewers... but at what cost...?

They should probably just make your head armor rating tied to your body armor rating so that we don't end up with just everyone taking heavy helmets. Plus makes it easier to get the armor look you want without sacrificing survivability.

​@@pocketfish22Just an FYI helmets/headshots are treated as having 0 armour actually. So even when compared to the lightest armour you are taking about 1/3rd more damage. And that is before considering if we are also taking headshot multiplier as well. But I am not sure if we do.

The reason you are confused in the beginning is because both crouching and going prone provides explosive resistance with prone being 95~% if memory suits me correctly. I unfortunately don't know the crouches damage reduction to explosions and yes, this is a training tip for a reason because hitting the deck when explosives are coming is what will save you. I have been in 380mm barrages wearing heavy blast resistant armour with shells landing withing 5 ft of me and I walk away with 95% ish health because I stayed prone which got me home because remember, "prone gets you home and there is a reason why nothing rymes with "running in like a asshole""-Warden. From what I know, going prone or crouching does not give explosive damage resistance. What it does is reduces the range at which you're suspectible to explosive damage. So, if a grenade does when standing 100% hp at 5 metres, 75% at 10 metres, and 50% at 15 metres, when prone, it will deal 50% hp at 5 metres, 25% at 10 metres and 0% at 15 metres. Those are random numbers, but I think it explains what I mean well

While the Buff to Armor is nice, the REAL big change was they fixed that bug where Helldivers and Exo Suits take explosive damage multiple times. The Rockets will still OCCASIONALLY instant kill you but its not ALL THE GOD DAME TIME anymore.

Yeah, next thing they need to remove is crit/headshot chance. Horde shooters shouldn't have one shot kills from enemies that spawn in the dozens.

I started running heavy armor vs bots and wow, definitely improved my experience. Being able to tank about 80% of rocket body shots is so huge! Hulk Scorchers are terrifying though when you run like you ate nothin but McDonald's for 10 years.

Bile damage doesnt seem to be effected by armor. Agreed on armor choices light and stamina for bugs, heavy and heath for bots.b

@@yangpaan453it's the best to run medium armour with democracy protects with bots, as it saves you from death a lot and gives you more armour. most of the time i can't run from bots anyways. the bot playstyle revolves around taking cover and occasionally tanking gunfire

@@CrazyDutchguys he is referring to rocket headshot/crits being a one shot still. If you run heavy you can tank a tone of hits as long as you don't take that stray crit rocket.

@@OhDoughAgainst a projectile, yes. I haven’t seen grenades or stratagems do critical damage. Also, if you’re running from bots, running and diving constantly is a really good tactic. If you’re facing away from explosive projectiles you almost never get critted.

@@OhDough the hitbox is kinda weird but my guess is that some of the rocket impacts were registered as ground collision so you only took some explosion damage while the one where you died was registered a headshot

Servo Assisted is my go-to armor passive, being able to snipe fabricators from a hundred meters away with an airstrike or a 380mm has become a core part of my playstyle

Some info about servo assisted, it's actually not as bad as people think. Turns your 50m throwing range into a 70m throwing range and flattens the arc if you're throwing something closer to you.

It's ok, just outclassed by the other armor skills. Servo can simply be replaced by just running slightly closer and arcing your throws

I like to run servo assisted if I run my combat engineer loadout (mech + 2 turrets + support weapon). It makes it fairly easy to get out of the mech, quickly throw a turret to a flanking position some distance away where it has less chance to team kill or get overrun, and get back in.

ita my most used armor against the bugs, can position stratagems quite well to avoid team kills, jump throws for 80m can snipe nests with airstrikes, the more i used it, the more i respected it agaist bugs

I still don’t understand why armor only protects from toes to shoulders, but helmet is just cosmetic? It makes no sense to me. If you equip light armor, helmet should be light armor as well and so on for medium/heavy armors. Also I think either heavy armor should have some flinch resistance or have it be a new perk for armors

bile spewer damage is actually reasonable now, before if they even grazed you, you'd get instantly obliterated. now its high, but just not bullshittingly high i personally think headshot damage should either go away entirely or have heavy armor helmets actually protect against headshot damag, because rn heavy armor feels really hard to justify when i could run light medic armor, be faster, and still have godmode for like 36 total seconds

Servo assisted is underrated cause normal throw is like 60m but with servo it's almost 100m makes dropping stratagems from farther away. Yeet and flee fabricators.

It's underrated for good reason, most people are used to the normal throwing distance and it's a perk that it's too situational while there's perks that gives you more grenades, more stims, why would I pick more throwing distance for only a few specific scenarios?

It is super underrated on throw distance alone. I’m still curious as to effective the limb health increase is. Some testing has shown it to be life saving. Other times is seems near useless. I want to try out heavy armor with it to see of you can become really tanky.

I don't run it often, but it's great for Blitz missions against Automatons. Bring the rocket pods for their auto aim capability, along with airstrike etc, and you can just remove bases without going anywhere near them. Is also a mandatory armour if you want to mess around with a silly artillery barrages only loadout, since it lets you actually use your barrages without needing to retreat immediately after throwing. xD

Yesterday I was wearing a heavy armor with 50% explosive damage. I took a direct shot of a cannon tower into my ballistic shield and survived, however, the ballistic shield was destroyed and I still took massive damage but not enough to kill me nor cause a hemorrhage.

I feel like if you are taking the detriment of using only your sidearm/smg and having to walk slowly behind the shield(making you very susceptible to spewers cus speed and ragdolls from rockets) , it shouldn't be breakable.

@@Koranthus oh no, the ballistic shield is useless against bugs. I only use it against bots. With the latest changes and fixes they did to it, it’s saved me more times than I can count, including the direct hit from a cannon part.

hulk flames have always insta killed me, even before the flame buff, its a 50/50 if im diving before the flames touch me. it feels like an instant death, theres no tick damage to see

The biggest difference against Automatons is no longer having a single explosion potentially hitting you multiple times, killing you instantly regardless of your health or armor. That's made Rocket Devastators slightly less rage-inducing, IMO. Spewers are still annoying, but are no longer a case of "a tiny bit of their puke hit my pinky toe, now I'm dead".

In all my testing of the armors, the only thing that consistently matters for preventing death from a mathematical perspective is Democracy Protects. That's it.

I'd need to actually gather data to really verify, but I can say anecdotally that Democracy Protects + Ballistic Shield has allowed me to survive hilarious amounts of fire intact.

Thou hast not judged the medic armor fairly brother. Being healed constantly for four seconds, and being able to do that six times, while wearing heavy armor has saved my life from SWARMS of the little leaping bugs rag-dolling me around the world. Then I stand up, stim again, and purge them with holy flame

​@@TheArcturusProject it's nice but if something genuinely just one shots u will not heal through it as you'd die instantly. Democracy protects could save you from those instances. If we could change up secondary effects and customize then pairing democracy protects resist death with the increased stim time instead of the no bleeding from chest part would be god tier

I was confidently relaying info that I'd got from other channels in the early weeks of this game only to experience something contrary in my missions. Pretty embarrassing. That vitality booster perk looks like no matter how much damage you take from one source, that damage doesn't effect the health you gain from vitality booster. It explains why that bug exists where, when you drown, you glitch out and still have that tiny sliver of health remaining and are just stuck in the water floating. Also explains the land mines and everything else. Probably won't work on hell bombs since they seem to apply their damage at least 2 times. Health and damage in this game seems really inconsistent

1:15 The game says somewhere (completely forgot where) that being prone reduces explosive damage. So that could be why you took significantly less damage there even though it was a headshot, and subsequently why you get one-shot after when standing.

In testing for my own videos, I found that crouching also provides explosion resistance. I haven't yet checked if said resistance is specifically implicit to all helldivers or if it only applies when wearing armors with that passive, but it's involved in triggering that new damage calculation in some capacity.

​@@OhDoughYou need to search for how games do explosive hit zone. When an explosion go, it creates a cone/dome light of sight, so the more surface you expose, more DMG you take. It's why you prone irl to avoid explosion.

I run Servo-Assist. The extra stratagem and grenade throwing range is quite nice in automaton missions. Lets you call in strats against hulks and tanks from pretty far away.

Not sure dying to the rocket volley is to do with headshot damage alone. Possibly could be that if you don't get knocked back by a rocket, you end up sustaining a lot more damage.

Since vitality gives you more effective HP, I wonder if servi-assisted also does. I'm running heavy servo assisted against the automatons since the patch and I feel like I never die as long as fire DoTs are not involved

i think it would be cool if helmets did get bonuses like armor. maybe they don't affect speed or armor, but have really big effects, like thermal vision or negating headshots. i just think it'd be cool.

The Servo-Assisted armors are good when paired with eagle strikes and the like against bots. Since they stay at range shooting you, that extra distance on your throws can let you land those stratagems from further away. They should also give you the same benefit as having the Vitality Booster, but it's hard to honestly tell if it does anything with how much damage can vary.

keep in mind explosive damage is based on standing, crouching, or prone position (the further down the less damage). Additionally, any source of damage as far as im aware is capable of headshotting you. The tesla for example can headshot you.

I run a close range build using flamethower, incendiary breaker, fire nades, ammo pack, and heavy medic armor. Its stupid how effective that combination is rn, then run 1 strategem to help allies kill bile titans and use the flamethower on chargers front legs and you can basically handle anything you want

I freaking love servo assisted, just for that 30% increase in range, the limb health is useless (At least that's how it feels) but to be able to throw stratagems or grenades a little further ohhh, it fills my sample container

Isn't there a Critical Hit chance on every enemy attack that can ocasionally make attacks do more damage (and thus why the damage sometimes feels completely random)? I've seen it mentioned online.

i really like the servo assist bc it gives you extra engagement range with stratagems and the 50% limb health so you're getting the vitality perk for free, and they're all v cool looking imo not the greatest armor set but certainly one of my favorites

this can also help with throwing a resupply or weapon far enough in front of you to not have to wait v much for it if at all, if you dive and get a good angle you can throw 80+ meters

Which is tankier? Heavy armor, or the 2 extra seconds of health regen from the medic armors? My guess is that the health regen is better against small arms fire, but heavy armor with fortified is better for explosive damage, right?

I run servo boosted on the light armour as a support player being able to throw your teammates out of danger and calling in strikes from afar is so useful aswell as taking down bigger enemies with a the EAT I throw it max distance run and it lands roughly the same time I get to it keeping me safe and able to turn and 2 shot most heavy enemies but it depends on play style

I stepped on a contact mine and survived once with the Executioner armor set (150 armor, 30% explosion resist) but every other time it's killed me instantly

Bugs don't hit you in the head as much as you think and they will kill you a lot less in heavy armour. Servo Assisted is great. Once you get used to that throwing range for all your strikes, regular distance feels anaemic. It is also really worth to run when you bring 380mm so you can throw it away to really safe distance.

I'm not sure if it's true or not but I heard that the Servo-Asisted passive is basically a personal vitality booster but it doesn't stack with the booster itself.

i did some testing regarding explosive Splash damage (non direct damage, aka Mines, grenades, nearby explosions part) : it appears to be applied correctly, consistently and is massively reduced by 50% explosive resistance armor perk. Armor Value has impact on Splash damage, but it's really negligible compared to 50% explosive resistance perk, difference between 50 and 150 armor is like 10%. with 150 armor and 50% resistance perk you can lay on the G-6 Frag and always survive, on other hand just 150 armor and vitality booster won't save you. It deals same damage regardless of body part it was closest to (head, legs, arms, etc), only what matters is distance from the explosion source. it's also what got fixed with the 01.000.200 patch, stuff like autocannon no longer OHK if you fire from point blank even with just 50 armor and vitality booster. Through that doesn't answer question why automatons still can OHK you, which might be related to Direct Damage their rockets deal with appears to be unaffected by 50% explosive resistance. currently i have one theory: Rocket not always deal direct damage, which is why Rocket that fly by you head and explodes deals negligible damage with the 50% resistance armor, but when it hits directly head on it headshots and deals Direct Damage. Think of the pre patch Recoilless rifle/EAT that could glance off and deal reduced damage, making even devastators survive multiple hits.

Question. Since they reduced the "getting hit by an explosive multiple times" I feel like all they did was make it so that there is a CD after suffering explosion damage when you can be damaged by an explosion again and this might apply to enemies as well. I quasared a titan in the face at the same time with my buddy and the titan did not die to that. Any chance you could test it properly?

Explosive damage in general is still inconsistent. Can be seen with grenades as well. Something with the ground geometry blocking damage is my guess.

Most confusion, when it comes to received damage, comes from fact that every single enemy can roll critical hit for at least double or even higher damage. Anyway, yesterday I was also testing heavy armor and I survived a lot of things I wouldn't have chance to survive two days ago, like being partially hit by bile titan vomit or swarmed by 4 hunters at once. Glad it actually works now probably as was intended from beginning.

Crouching and prone gives high explosive resistance, but that resistance is likely lost while you are ragdolled which leaves you vulnerable to follow up rockets that instant kill you.

I'm pretty sure the explosive resistant part of the armor is most effective against AoE while you are crouched or prone. I'm not sure if it mitigates and direct impacts or not.

I have this bug where I heal, it makes the sound uses the stim but I don’t get any health. I was beginning to think I was being hit again and it was canceling out, but I see other people getting rocked use a stim and they survive

The stagger and knock down is the main problem now Taking extra hits doesn’t mean mean anything if you’re being staggered into a coma unable to shoot back when taking the extra hits the armour provides or just getting knocked down by a rocket Small arms should do no stagger and rockets should only stagger rather than knockdown in heavy armour so you can actually take advantage of the fact you can take more hits.

there is a mechanic in the game if you are laying down you get less explosive damage II can't remember where it was explained but this is a thing can help you avoid teamates close airstrikes

I recommend testing the 50% limb health armour passive, my current theory for rockets 1 shoting is how many limbs the AOE hits and we already confirmed we can survive more consistently with Vitality since it's the only way to survive a land mine. Thanks for testing the new changes :)

servo assisted and vitality booster work in separate ways as far as it's tested currently. limbs have their own internal health that's about ~33% of your health vitality booster increases your health and prevents bleeding damage like "democracy protect" armor perk servo assisted reduces amount of internal health limbs take by 50%, essentially turning 2 melee hits to break limb into 4, but you still take same damage to main health bar. through explosives dealing damage depending on amount of limbs hit is still valid theory

I've been liking the standard issue starting armor after the buff. Same protection as heavy, but with less movement penalties. Gets the job done on both sides of the galaxy.

I always play with 30% more throw in Light and Heavy armor. It is very cool, throwing stuff on long distance. It feels more natural than the normal configuration for me because it feels like other games how Battlefield or Call of duty

Seems like when you tested grenade that explosive resistance just does not work you take the same dmg with vitality compared to vit and explosive resistance.

The point of explosive resistance isn't to safe you from eating a rocket. It's to cushion the blows from the AOE part. This is useful for thing's like the plasma weapons so you can do thing's like diving away from hunters and generally be safe enough to shoot them without blowing yourself to the moon.

First of all unless you're an arrowhead dev, saying "the point of X is to do [..]" is straight up wrong given you're not the person that designed the armor or had any insight in it's design process. You could infer that they only meant it to reduce aoe damage by basing it off of what it does now, but considering that the railgun used to 2 shot titans in safe mode, "what currenrly happens" is as likely to be a bug as it is a feature. Assuming you are correct though, that the intended method and use case is solely preventing aoe spash, that means the shit is literally fucking useless because it changes none of the breakpoints nor prevents aoe stagger, so you'll still have to stim when almost directly hit and won't need to stim when you get barely grazed but still get staggered. So your point is essentially "this dogshit design is intentionnal" which is probably not the hill you want to die on

I really thought the vitality booster only gave limb health instead of overall health. I'm pretty sure there is a booster breakdown video somewhere that tests this by dropping from a high ledge. He took the game amount of falling damage but it took 3 falls instead of 2 for his legs to get crippled

i just wanna say explosive resistence seems like it works vs aoa damage not direct explosive in my exp just going to say that other good video and also when you prone you have more survability overall because it does give massive reduction i almost always survive any damage unless it is direct hit but with democracy protects it does save you most of time

FYI, Servo Assisted's throwing range applies to strategem balls. It seems minor, but after using it for a while and swapping back to another passive, you'll definitely feel the difference. It's nowhere near game-breaking or meta-defining, but it's pretty fun to use.

Servo-assisted is incredible. Just yeet orbitals and airstrikes from another zip code and just not aggro a thing. I bring the 120 and 380 orbitals all the time now against the bots and I've cleared entire objectives while never even aggroing a thing around that area to the point that enemies in the vacinity actually go to investigate the area after an explosion has hit, making it even easier to just run around them, or lay them up nicely to mow them down

afaik crouch and prone has innate explosive dmg resist, and sprinting makes you take more. Doesn't explain random one-shots but it explains taking much less sometimes. I also think that maybe helldivers shouldn't take headshot bonus damage. It causes many inconsistencies

After the most recent patch I can wear heavy+fortified armor and do stupid things such as: Walk on a bot landmine without full health and survive it Take rockets to the face and barely take damage Be on the tail end of airstrikes, 380mm impacts, and even warhead launches and live without taking a whole ton of damage Literally eat a strafing run directly and live with some of my health still I love it.

With how unfairly overpowered headshot damage is, the vitality booster is the best booster to take on any bot mission. While it does not outright increase your HP like many think, it increases the HP of your limbs. You won’t get slowed by the enemy breaking your leg or have horrible aim because of a broken arm. However, the head also counts as a limb, so you will have the capacity to tank a headshot. Inconsistently, yes, but it’s still better than no tanking ability. If you pair this with the 50% chance to not die on lethal damage, you will be much more resistant to bot assaults from all angles, provided your luck is good enough

It makes sense that vitality gives hp because of the bug where you are still alive after drowning. Because that only happens when vitality booster is being used.

i just want to say at 6:35 (this was b4 the patch though) that democracy protects does NOT have a 50% it felt more like a 10% when I tested it, but it could be that before the patch the game was applying explosion damage to all limbs simultaneously screwing and rolling the damage more than once. I was testing with impact nades thrown at feet and it took about 12 ish respawns to proc.
