Squad-related Helldivers fun fact: the guy who did some of the lighting for Helldivers 2 also worked with the lighting for Squad (on some of the recent maps and revamps on some of the old ones), and is a long-time Squad player. And at least three of the Helldivers devs are frequent Squad players.

And they could because of their single player / narrative lean. But Helldivers is the group coop game that is gonna sit on everyone's hard drives for years to come.

Man, I had to try to convince people to try the original Helldivers (which had an all-time high player count of 7000), and was playing until mid last year helping to fend off Super Earth's enemies in our struggling, faltering war efforts. Helldivers 2 has captured EVERYONE's attention, and I'm so happy for Arrowhead. This is the exact same formula that made Helldivers (and Magicka, and Gauntlet) so fun, but polished to a brilliant shine.

The movie adaptation kinda turned the tone on its head, and is lovable for its own reasons. The book is great, but does take itself seriously.

The only thing really missing is 8 player co-op I'm kinda tired of the generic 4 man team and this game is perfect for 8 players or more Arrowhead please pull a killing floor 2 with this one. I know kf2 is only 6 players but it's one of the few pve coop games that run more than 4 players with that type of general gameplay loop

Dunno if you already know, but MMB while aiming lets you go first person. Also holding Reload when not aiming allows you to change the setting on some guns like the RoF for the Machine Gun

​@@IgzileeI think the perspective change really is what made it so attractive to people. Top down seems way less popular. I did love Helldivers 1 but Helldivers 2 is already on another level and that's before 75% of the weapons, strategems and the 3rd enemy faction was added. They did a great job.

I love what this game is doing but mindlessly shooting a bunch of bugs arcade style isn't really my cup of tea. I could see myself enjoying this game for a little bit before getting bored and moving on. I personally wouldn't pay more than 15 bucks for it. The great thing about this game is seeing how popular it is I'm sure it will entice AAA developers to make some more good modern coop games like this. Star Wars, Lord of The Rings, medieval slasher like Chivalry 2 would be pretty cool.

"pay to skip the grind" is still bad monetization. It preys on people to spend money in various ways that they might not actually have, by putting artificial time limits on items that they otherwise would never be able to obtain. The obfuscation of real money value by having it be translated into one the 4 in-game currencies is also something to frown upon. This doesn't make the game itself bad, at the same time it does not give the game a free pass for predatory monetization practises

You fundamentally cannot pay to skip the grind in HD2. All weapons, strategems, and upgrades can only be unlocked with the materials/currencies you get for completing missions or finding on the map. Even the 'premium' currency used to get the other warbond (aka battlepass) or armor sets in the shop can be found in reasonable amounts during every mission, with the items of war bond also only able to be unlocked with currency earned by completing missions. Shop armors are already rotating back through, and warbonds are permanent for the game's lifespan. I get it, people don't like MTX in their games but "predatory" is not what I would use to describe this game's implementation.

Yesterday I was watching the stream and I loved it and paused it for about 2 hours because it inspired me to clean up and when I went back to watch it after 10 mins it stopped and backed me out then said I needed to buy a subscription to be able to watch the stream, so that’s why I’m unsubscribing since I’m literally living paycheck to paycheck and your “having issues with your new house” like you don’t need to charge us for entertainment but people like you I can’t stand, so I’ll see you again one day
